You’re absolutely right. 😢 Spot on with “who you interact with”, I had school mates convincing me to focus on retail/ care jobs. Thankfully, I didn’t listen, and I got into the professional setting. This was an interesting watch, I think about the struggles of immigrants all the time, it can be really tough! God help us.❤

Racism is a major factor and often THE chief reason job hunting can be difficult (assuming you're qualified). Freshly arriving from Nigeria or another African country, Caribbean, etc, it can sometimes be hard to see racism in all its pervasive forms. Instead of saying, they don't want to hire a black person, they will say, "Oh, there are no more vacancies" or "You're under qualified" even if you have more degrees than they do, etc. That being said, it's not impossible and it's not that everyone is racist/prejudiced, but you must be aware.

Check if your province is seeking such workers in the remote areas. I know Quebec is looking for social workers everywhere. With extra high pay in the remote areas.

@janepherkakama4618 yes. Including my sister (although she went to uni in Canada). Check within your province for settlement services. They should be able to direct you to: - get your degree/curriculum reviewed - advise you of the requirements to be certified in your province, or if certification is even needed. - maybe even link you up with companies and agencies that are hiring social workers. Social workers are in huge demand in Alberta for example. So much so that many agencies will sponsor workers for work permit.

Tamul mean one person who had a Bachelor's degree in social work from Africa and now they are practicing? I am trying to send my transcript to the Canadian association of social workers for evaluation,l hope they won't undermine the Ugandans degree. I need to practice social work here but l am still confused

You spoke it all. I am in Quebec and i wish i could broadcast everything you said with loudspeaker and town crier. I have a family member who kept doing care work, prioritizing it over the professional job she got. I met people who stayed in their factory job for 20+ years because they didnt want change and didnt want to go through disappointment. I am beginning to see these temporary jobs as a cheap way to avoid wage inflation in the country. With the bills (especially for those who love to flex) keeping people in perpetual need, over career advancement. To be fair, i have met people who have all that they need
