OCI is a de-facto dual citizenship for all intents and purposes. The caveats of not being allowed to vote or stand for public office are extremely reasonable for foreign citizens, if it means they have all other rights and perks of Indian citizens. Infact getting a citizenship of a country with a stronger passport and then getting an OCI card will give you a competitive advantage as you don't have to worry about visas in a lot of countries So actually dual citizenship is unnecessary

@@topgear_75 not exactly. You're not allowed to go to restricted sites, buy farm land, serve the military or hold any public office/vote. Rest rights are all the same. It's treated as an ID, there's unlimited unrestricted access to India, it allows you to work, study and do business (the main things people care about). You only have to pay taxes on your income in India. And as permanent residency, you get almost all the perks as a citizen would. If voting rights are a significant factor for you, then yes I'd agree with you. But to be frank many wouldn't mind if they're a foreign citizen. We're not like UK which allows Commonwealth residents to vote regardless of citizenship (I'm not joking)

@@melroyreus3417 wrong. Contrary to popular belief, AADHAR is not a citizenship card and "residents" of India are eligible for Aadhar as long as they're either Indian citizens or legal immigrants. OCI card holders are latter. Ration card anyway is not required by foreign citizens as it's obvious that they had the funds to legally go abroad. And as for voting and public rights, this is exclusively reserved for citizens all over the world, and it should be. A foreigner shouldn't mind not having this right, as long has he's getting all the rest of the perks as other Indian citizens. OCI is more akin to Green Card. So if voting is so important for you, then yes I may agree with you. But otherwise it's a de-facto dual citizenship though with reasonable caveats

If a citizen committed crime and run away to another country, do a temporary cancellation of his/her Indian citizenship. 3. Allow Indian citizenship only for those who born in India. I still can't understand that foreigners can choose Indian citizenship but don't leave their original citizenship, and Indian government allows that! Aaj ki zamane pe, its possible to earn a glamorous salary in India and live a very comfortable life. Most skilled log bahar jate hai, not because of money, but because of higher tax and also because of corruption and lack of respect of tax paying individuals. A. The youth of india, should aspire to make a career in India B. Govt of India should ease super high taxation of 20 to 40 lakhs per annum salary. C. Govt of India should ease super high taxation of cars upto 25 lakhs .. today a car of on road value 20 lakhs, attract almost 7 to 8 lakhs of tax. That is too much. Govt of India should stop hugely favoring business and agriculture and start respecting talent and stop brain drain by being considerate towards middle class

Jo log kisi doosre desh ki citizenship le rahe hai, unke dil me aise hi Bharat ke liye pyaar kam ho chuka hai. There's no point in giving them special privileges. Apni Indian citizenship rakh ke bhi doosre desho me kaam kiya jaa sakta hai. But the NRI's have chosen to be the citizens of a different country. Our country doesn't need to be a second choice for someone. If they want to go, they are most welcome. Also, dual citizenship hone se desh ki sovereignty pe bhi aanch aa sakti hai.

This is a very primitive way of thinking imo. The fact remains that the western countries are way more lucrative in terms of financial independence than India. Putting our self interests ahead should not be condoned. Plus NRIs are very important to the country as they send money back to family in India which increases the Forex reserves which are then used to import goods. Having dual citizenship will provide a further incentive to our foreign expats to send more money as foreign currency which will ease a lot of pressure on our existing forex reserves which would also reduce the need to buy more dollars further strengthening the rupee.

If OCI holders suddenly started getting Indian passports, the political dominance will flip overnight. Govt wouldn’t be able to target and feed misinformation to those outside India. This would mean less predictability and control on outcomes for the political parties. Think vote bank politics. Mere pas india ki citizenship nhi hai bcz i born and I live in another. Par mere liye dono countries equal hai. I want ki mein dono countries ki citizen kehelau, and I also want to volunteer in both militaries. And it's not possible because India's government doesn't allow this. And I wanna ask something, can u choose one of ur two parents? Nhi na? So how can I choose between my two countries? I don't even have a right to vote in India. There are some options for you. 🔸We are working hard to make India great again so once it becomes a fully devloped like Europe then you can opt for Indian citizenship. 🔸Indian government can provide visa on arrival with low cost for ex - Indians or they can give visa free entry for them. Although I am Christian but idk why I feel so connected with Hindus and other religions which are parts of sanatan dharm. I am so grateful to have them as my brother & sister.

This video seems like more of opinions rather then facts. If we leave indian citizenship their is no way back home. In india when someone give up citizenship his whole family have to do so after some time. My uncle is in canada he have PR but he have to let go of his indian citizenship for voting rights etc which can not be done just with pr. But the issue was he didn't wanted to leave his citizenship he wanted to come back to India after 10 years. And just because he is now a Canadian citizen his whole family is going to Canada now. But he can't get indian citizenship because it is very complicated. In shot their is no way back home. If india allow duel citizenship people will go to other counties work for 10-15 years and come back to homeland without any visa issue.

Because it seems that hindu religion and hindu women wont get anything for free if people pay majority of their taxes in countries other than india. The government seems more possessive of people believing some type of emotional attachment than other countries although it doesn't show it on any documentation. It thinks that having more control over finances of people by controlling their nationality only to india means more money will come to government but actually only 5% of the population pays taxes with their major contribution coming from corporate taxes.. Government believes they have to feed the other people who make up 97% of the population. using your taxes. If you just take citizenship of other countries without india, it thinks is it fair for you to have dual citizenship and if you do, you should not have any advantage in india and therefore your citizenship is cancelled . The truth seem like government of india doesn't have any tax sharing agreement with other countries as it doesn't agree with laws of other countries.Therefore dual citizenship with india is not possible for other countries.
