Skyscrapers are necessary because India is an agricultural based economy and expansion of cities is costing us the fertile land. I'm from KOTA district of Rajasthan, 10 year ago my village was 9 km away from KOTA and very green but now it is merged in kota. It's very polluted and crime is became common now. So it's better to have a skyscraper than 200 houses along the road.

India needs skyscrapers, look at the population density of industrial cities. Having skyscrapers will help reducing horizontal lands, which can be used to make green parks or wetlands or more industries. But here's a catch, making skyscrapers in handful of places will limit the devolopment of suburbs and far villages as the major workforce will again start migrating to cities and possibly increase horizontal slum area.

I live in Bangalore, and my hometown is Mumbai. I am fond of sky gazing, and I take photos of the moon very often in Bangalore. When I visited Mumbai after 4 years for my cousins wedding, I was happy to see how tall the buildings were and I appreciated them. At night, I went to my apartment terrace, and I couldn't see the moon because of the taller buildings beside me. This made me sad that people cannot enjoy a simple view of sky over there. I rather wish to see open sky than falling in love with tall buildings.

Mumbai must do what nature does i e. have the same height as nature sets it. The tallest tree in Mumbai is the coconut tree and that is a maximum of 98 feet tall. The tallest building must not have more than 7 floors and the water tank on top. That will make the building 98 feet tall. Also the FSI must not be more than 1. Anything more than this has serious consequences. Apart from and more hazardous than the consequences mentioned in the video are the following ones: 1. If a building is 9 or more floors tall then the only time the sunlight reaches the ground is when the sun rises above the building i.e. when it is overhead at noon. Even worse when 2 nine storeyed (9 floors) buildings are next to each other the sunlight penetration to the ground between these 2 buildings (leave alone 20, 30,40.....100 floors) is only when the sun is overhead for a brief period of time between these 2 buildings. This leads to a catastrophe called 'Sick Building Effect' (already a worldwide phenomenon). When the sunlight doesn't fall on the walls of the building or doesn't enter the homes or offices in the building, fungus grows not only on the walls outside and inside the homes or offices but also in the a/c ducts, shafts and other places i e. everywhere. This fungus harbours viruses and bacteria in a symbiotic relationship. This fungus, bacteria and virus gets suspended in the air along with moisture and causes deadly and/or chronic diseases including cancer, tuberculosis. and chronic respiratory disorders amongst others. The only way to get rid of this fungus is to plaster the walls newly only to have the fungus return in no time. Leave alone the a/c ducts/shafts. 2. Also since there is no sunlight penetration on the ground including roads and footpaths to sanitize them there is fungal, bacterial and viral growth which cause diseases including cancer,tb, chronic respiratory disorders amongst others. Also since sunlight doesn't fall on human beings the vitamin D in their bodies doesn't get activated which leads to a variety of disorders including kidney failure. 3. Also without sunlight the trees and plants on the road die. There is not a single tree on the roads of New York. Trees are half of our respiratory system. We breath in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide and the trees breath in that carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. Without trees humans will die. 4. Now an FSI (Floor Space Index) of 1 means the ratio of total area of all floors built on the plot of land for people to live in to the area of the open space left on that plot of land is 1. That means the total floor area built and the open space area on that plot of land is the same. As the ratio of total floor area built to the open space area on that plot of land increases the number of people coming out not only on the open space on the plot but also on the road outside that building increases. The number of people using the basic amenities including roads, transportation (trains, buses, taxes, rickshas, cars and other vehicles), hospitals, clinics, schools and more increases which leads to stampedes and deaths as the one that occured at a railway station in Mumbai. This leads to shortage of expert doctors leading to death. This leads to traffic congestion and accidents and hence death. This leads to no parking space and hazardous levels of pollution/unit area and hence death. 5. Buildings taller than 7floors and/or an FSI of more than 1 means the sun rises much later and sets much earlier and even during the day there is no daylight as there is no sunlight penetration. This leads to a higher usage of electricity for artificial lighting even during daytime leading to triple or quadruple electricity bills as compared to normal. In New York lights are turned on at 2 p m. in the afternoon. Sometimes lights are on all day long in NY. 6. The problem that since Mumbai is an island it cannot grow horizontally is not a problem at all. Its an excuse by the politicians and builder nexus to build skyscrapers and coastal roads on expensive Mumbai land to make quick and huge money at the expense of destroying nature (and its beauty), sane living in and sane development of Mumbai. The island must be connected (seperated by the Ulhas river) to its surrounding cities that are NaviMumbai, Thane, Vasai-Virar by bridges across the river ( bridges already existing and Trans Harbour Link across Thane creek coming up) and further by roads (roads already existing) and metros to Kalyan-Dombivli, Panvel, Badlapur. Not by making insane coastal roads in the ocean destroying all the open spaces (beaches) and views (the sea,the horizon, the sky, the sunset) and the underwater flora and fauna (including planktons that light up the sea at night). Having the height of any building at a maximum of 98 feet and the FSI at a maximum of 1 is a must.

Skyscrapers eventually would give us more open space which we could be use for widening of roads as over crowding and over traffick is a common problem in most of the places of Indian cities and towns. Narrowing cities to certain extent horizontally, we would get more space for agricultural, industrial, natural refreshment parks etc. etc. Our system & society must have to accustom with the need of the time to have a systematic city or town, for eg, to reach a stall if they can walk some distance horizontally, why not vertically. It seems without absorbing more and more people and activities by skyscrapers, Indian cities or towns will never be well arranged and we will eventually be in scarce of Agriculture, Forest and open lands and roads will always remain in chaotic state as at present. In fact India is doing a blunder by avoiding skyscrapers.

@@gauravsharma_7 I agree but Skyscrapers looks very good in big cities and in the cities having small area as compared to population like Mumbai, but not in hilly terrains. I know it's very good for country's economy but hill terrains and some places with natural beauty looks fabulous without any skyscrapers. I know skyscrapers are good for business activities but people doesn't realise that the environment in which they are living where there is lack of sunlight on ground for people lack of trees and many more, however human beings are working to find a way to make skyscrapers a very good option for big cities. All the problems you mentioned can be short out by making a symmetrical arrangement of current buildings making them more efficient to work.
