Nice video dawg. Insurgency is a gem and can be so cathartic - the sound, the immersion and finally "getin gud" is amazing. I went from barely controlling an AK to now accurately hip-firing an M-60 and shredding kids... while my char is dressed as Rambo lmao. Also proximity chat banter is hilarious and cool. Totally different from CoD's dead mic angry responses lol.

I did have a section on VOIP I had to remove cos the video would be too long. Sometimes I don't even bother playing, I just camp next to the point and yell at the enemy team.

As someone who’s big into tactical shooters, this video does a great job of explaining it for the unacquainted, when you were talking about suppression I remembered one time when I was playing post scriptum, and we were crossing the bridge at Arnhem with bullets flying overhead and the guy next to me starts yelling as a Stuka comes down. And when it comes to customization, my friends and I have tried to make the insurgents look like the most average of average joes. Also when talking about voice lines, man I wish more games did voice lines in different tones, I love GHPC and have been playing it a ton for that very reason. When talking about deaths in shooters, probably the best I’ve seen is in the WW1 game series (Verdun, Tannenberg, & Isonzo). In those games people don’t ragdoll fully immediately on death, it depends on how they die. If they’re shot in the neck you can see them cover the wound as you hear them choke on their own blood. It really grounds you in that situation. I think rising storm 2 does the same thing if I remember, they both put constraints on the ragdolls for muscle movement. It’s less of 100% death and more of being taken out of action, as you can see non-fatal injuries sometimes, like a shot to the arm or foot.
@larubric Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment! A lot of games in the genre do this as Sandstorm does (couldn't put it in video cos it would be too long). I do think Sandstorm's ragdoll is nice as not every shot that hits would immediately kill someone, especially if it's something like a limb getting taken off. The portrayal of death in tactical shooters fits reality more so than mainstream shooters where everything is a kill shot.
@skylordmax7108 Жыл бұрын
@@larubric Yeah, what I like about the WW1 game series is just how much attention they put into it, there seem to be more ways you can go out than most, and it’s especially noticeable due to the large & dense scale of WW1

Is that the Brink OST being used at around 5:15? That hit me in the nostalgia bone. How I wished that game was good and successful. And then its spiritual successor (Dirty Bomb) also dies...
@larubric Жыл бұрын
It absolutely is. Brink wasn't a perfect game but, man, if it had been given the tactical shooter treatment like Sandstorm I think it may have been something really special.

Dude, you are so underrated. ❤ I tried sandstorm didnt quite get it. I do love Ready or not I've probably spent over 400 hours in just 7 months, it's just a perfect mix for me, I recommend it, it's basically the SWAT successor.
@narwhalski1989 Жыл бұрын
Love Ready or Not. Only issue it has is being relatively incomplete as of right now. In a year or twos time, it'll be one of the best tactical shooters out there. It and Ground Branch.
@larubric Жыл бұрын
Ready or Not is a great tactical shooter for reasons I'd love to make a video about. As of right now yes, it is incomplete, and tbh the price for it is still rather high. If you can get on a deal or some other *legal* means then I recommend 100%.

I played all 3 insurgency games (including the HL2 mod that everyone somehow forgets to mention) and in Sandstorm I've accumulated 800hrs. The one thing that keeps me coming back to Sandstorm is simply just the fluidity of the gunplay and the absolute genius decision to keep the game slightly more "small-scale". I love Hell Let Loose, Red Orchestra 2 or whatever other Rising Storm whatever you can think of, they're absolutely fantastic games but Sandstorm stands out to me because the goal of the game is presented in the most clear way possible and everyone can play the game and enjoy it to its full potential straight from the start. There's not much to learn in terms of "new oddly specific mechanics that other games do not utilize" but there is much in this game that you can master, especially map knowledge and enemy timing. It's almost reminiscent to me of games like Mordhau or Chivalry 1/2 where if you're able to predict the enemy you will most certainly have the upper hand and to be honest it's pretty much the deciding factor of whether you'll win the fight or not. In other games like Modern Warfare or Battlefield this factor is slightly less present? Like I could be absolutely overpowered by the enemy, clenching my ass cause they're all around me but then remember I got a rocket launcher a killstreak the will of god and a weapon I paid 20$ so the tides of battle shift in my favor despite the "knowledge" of my opponent. Anyway my point is Sandstorm = good 👍
@MalaysianChopsticks Жыл бұрын
I have 844 hours on Insurgency 2. I played Sandstorm a little over 50 hours but always went back to 2. It is because of the map a couple years ago, it's too big for the CQC urban warfare that was missing in the second one.

I might be 6 months later to the party but this video is great. I've come here to see if I should buy sandstorm since I really enjoy the first game but am getting kinda bored of it rn. I also love the critical examination of war and death that often gets overlooked by many gaming youtubers. Plus the political tirades about the military industrial complex and submissiveness to dominant looking beautiful women is very based.
