Are you wondering why all the grit is coming off your shingles? Why are your shingles losing all the dirt or sand that is on them? Does this mean that your shingles are damaged by hail?
If you're regularly finding piles of shingle grit or dirt around your yard or especially at the bottom of your downspouts, it could mean that your shingles are damaged by hail, but there's another possibility, too. And, if you get an inexperienced roof inspector on your roof, he may convince you to file a claim, which could potentially be denied.

i have an idea to apply fresh asphalt to bald patches of missing granules of shingles and then sprinkle roofing granules onto this wet asphalt and gently tap it in to secure them and then let it cure and you have a brand new repaired shingle rather than replacement. I am thinking you can extend the life of your shingles indefinitely this way. You can even gather grit from gutters to do the color match replacing

That only works in small spots. You're not going to be able to do that on a whole roof, nor would you want to.

Was the attic testing for getting too hot? Gable fans and ambient temp regulating is the same as having a roof top vent/ridge vent. Why would they build the home the way it is if that was such a known cause? Ridge vents on the roof are not always the way to go. Why introduce a new area to worry about when you just need better interior venting of the attic? I dont know any homes in the west coast that have roof ridge vents. Great info regarding the different types of issues and insurance info!! But I have read from engineers how those roof top fans make zero difference. You need a push pull system. Also, once de-lamination starts, its not that easy to stop with better venting. A lot of the adhesion has already weakened, but will help a bit. Maybe there is a way to repair this?

Steps for Repairing Roof Shingles Using a Brad Nailer and Granules: Prepare the Area: Clean the Surface: Ensure the area around the damaged shingles is clean and dry. Remove any debris or loose granules. Secure Curling or Buckling Shingles: Use a Brad Nailer: Carefully use a brad nailer to pin down the curling or buckling shingles. Place the nails where they will hold the shingles flat without causing additional damage. Be cautious not to penetrate too deeply. Check for Level: Ensure the shingles are as flat as possible before moving on to the next step. Patch the Area: Apply Roofing Patch: Use a roofing patch or sealant to cover the nail heads and any gaps around the shingles. This helps to seal the area and prevent water infiltration. Henry’s Roof Patch or similar products work well for this purpose. Smooth the Patch: Spread and smooth the patching material over the nails and surrounding area to ensure it is well-sealed. Apply Custom Granules: Prepare Granules: Crush ceramic tiles to match the existing granules in color and texture. Sift the granules to ensure they are uniform in size. Sprinkle Granules: While the patching material is still wet, sprinkle the custom granules over the patched area. Ensure an even coverage. Press Granules: Gently press the granules into the wet patch to ensure they adhere well. You can use a flat tool or even the back of a trowel to press them in. Cure the Repair: Allow to Dry: Let the patch and granules cure according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. This typically involves a period of drying or curing time to ensure the repair is solid and effective. Material Costs: Brad Nailer: $50 - $100 (if you don’t already have one) Brad Nails: $10 - $20 (for a box of nails) Roofing Patch (Henry’s Roof Patch or similar): $10 - $20 per gallon Ceramic Tiles: $2 - $10 each Granule Preparation Tools: (grinder, sieve) $30 - $100 Benefits of This Method: Secure and Long-Lasting: The combination of nailing down the shingles and using a patch with granules creates a strong and durable repair. Exact Color Match: By using custom granules made from matching ceramic tiles, you ensure the repair blends well with the existing roof. Weather Protection: The roofing patch seals the area effectively, preventing water from getting underneath the shingles. This approach allows you to address the specific issues of curling and buckling while also ensuring the repair matches the existing roof's appearance.

@@homesteadroofing I remember the packaging and they were for sure Malarkey shingles. When I originally signed the contract for the roof I was told that I would be getting owens corning. When the shingles were delivered, I noticed the malarkey packaging. I asked the contractor why they weren’t installing the owens corning. He said that the malarkey’s were just as good or better.

After you install the roof ventilation, don’t you wanna fix the bare spots so the sun don’t deteriorate the structure of the shingle more and start leaking? That’s what the granular is for from what I understand. How can it be repaired without replacement? Thanks

The question is, can the shingles be recoted with some kind of sticky material and new granules?

he did not answer the question AT ALL he dodged it. The answer is that NOBODY has EVER apparently published DIY repair of grit/granule loss on shingles. Why? They'd rather quote you a total roof replacement out of GREED. It would be EASY to apply fresh asphalt to bad areas and sprinkle on new granules and firmly press them into the wet asphalt to glue them into place. You then have REPAIRED the shingles and get another 10 years and then rinse repeat. YOU WOULD NEVER NEED A ROOF REPLACEMENT AGAIN. WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS. I plan to do some videos of fixing a roof this way where I DO NOT THROW AWAY A SINGLE SHINGLE AT ALL on a leaky roof.

Sea Pea, good question, but I would ask a question in response. How did your insurance company know about the missing granules? Were they coming out and doing inspections of their insured homes?

@@DefSquadFan Here are some questions I would have about it. 1) How old is the roof? 2) What manufacturer are the shingles from? 3) is there sufficient ventilation on the roof? These 3 questions will inform you of whether or not you can file a warranty claim with the manufacturer and have them replace the roof. If it doesn't qualify as a manufacturer's defect, then you're probably looking at replacing the roof out of pocket. Sorry for the potential bad news.
