I remember watching Canada vs US women's hockey during the Olympics two months ago, and CBC was showing the crowd instead of the faceoff, and just before they came back to the play, someone had scored. You may remember that, as there were tons of people outraged on social media. They were too busy showing the crowd that they missed an important goal in the hockey game. CBC needs to get their act together.

Never actually noticed/ thought about this issue. I’m sure they are aware of this and just figure that people would rather watch a replay or pan of the bench than the puck hitting the ice. I’m definitely going to start watching for this now.

It might just be a national network thing because when I watched the Kings-Golden Knights broadcast, we had the option to watch it with NBC or our local station which is Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket and I was pretty satisfied with the broadcast. They may have missed 2 face offs in the entire series.

While I won't claim to have been even close to as thorough as Brent, after watching both games on NBCSN today (I did miss about 10 minutes of the 2nd period of the Tampa Game tho), I counted only 4 faceoffs in the Tampa game, and only 3 that they missed in the Sharks game. In fact, they were generally on the faceoff well before the puck drop. Long enough that I was saying "Come on drop the puck!" (In reference to my agreement with Brent that the linesmen fiddle too much in the faceoff circles.) Great coverage today overall.

I'll have to do that today for the Lightning/ Bruins game (watching that for my dad) and tomorrow for the Pens/ Caps game. I thought that there were a few missed faceoffs last night because they were focusing on Crosby, or on Pierre fanboying over Crosby. Or something interesting happening on the bench like Trotz's dancing eyebrows or Sully saying a few things under his breath I couldn't really read.
@Kevi166 жыл бұрын
It’s really just the directors that don’t tell the td guys to take it on the cameras in time. And sometimes the directors don’t time up the replay packages. The worst part is that the td guys can’t do anything without the director telling them what to do, no matter what they will get in trouble. So i say blame the directors, not the td and camera guys.
@Post2Post6 жыл бұрын
We never said anything about blaming the camera guys lol. It's 100% on the 1 person calling the shots and camera switches in the control room. Nobody else is to blame but him.

What's bugging me the most are the commercials that they air between whistle not even during commercial breaks. Idk if cbc does that, but NBC does. It's so annoying how many commercials they cram into the games. Between whistles, I want to hear interesting info from the commentators, I want to see what the players are doing, I want to see replays, I don't want to see a commercials. Games already have way too many commercials, we don't need more commercials not even during a commercial break. This is annoying me so much (there's my rant haha)

You should put ads on jersey like we do in Europe. But I would recommend max 5 ads because jerseys here are just ridicilous nowadays. My team I cheer for have like around 20 fricking ads on jersey. Not pretty. Plus side is that we dont have to watch so many ads on tv.

As an American that lives in Buffalo, CBC has been an ever present in my memory of hockey from ~'87 till this day. Ironically Western NY is apart of the CBC coverage area. Anyways, The Sportsnet takeover of HNIC has definitely changed things. From Bob Cole being basically sidelined in the playoffs for the last few years to way back when Chris Cuthbert went to TSN/NBC.... CBC has been messing up. I love Grapes and I fear for hockey on TV (when Cole, McLean, Cherry, Rick Jeanneret, ect all move on). Enjoy the channel!

On my college campus, I work for the television services. It is a good job and it pays well. My point is, making a live broadcast is a hard thing to do. I can only say for the cameramen and women, cause thats my job, but the cameras are constantly looking for something new to see. Sometimes without much time until the broadcast turns back on your camera. The control room is the problem in the situation for hockey night in Canada. There might be a problem with CBC because of their budget because maybe they don't have enough cameras to switch to. Face offs are very important and I agree with everything you said, however i think we do need to give some slack to the control room because they have a hard job.

Boston - Tampa, Game 5, 1st Period - It's 5 AM here, so forgive me if I Romanuk it up like Paul did on Tyson Nash instead of Riley. I may be off by a bit. I counted and noted 23 faceoffs in period 1 with 10 missed, mostly due to highlights ans yes that spinning Stanley Cup Playoffs CBC graphic. I'm not doing this for the next two periods. I don't expect perfection out of anyone; I'm far from perfect myself. But 10 missed faceoffs out of 50 is bad, let alone 23. That's 43% missed.

I can honestly say that, without a doubt in my mind, NBCSN is really terrible about missing key plays and faceoffs! I absolutely hate how they, at every 5 to 20 minutes, run commercials and no actions! I wish the NHL was back on ESPN like the late 90s.

This is the reason why KHL is better than NHL. In all my lifetime, I've never missed a single faceoff, when watching Dinamo games. They roll a 10 min commercial, when they get back the play hasn't started, they show players getting ready for faceoff. I guess NHL is just trying to milk the money from everything as hard as they can.
@alextwiford17046 жыл бұрын
As an American hockey fan, I dislike NBC, but it’s unavoidable because they have a complete monopoly on the National TV market. Doc Emrick n Pierre McGuire are the lead n just rant off on tangents and blather on the speech and it takes away from the game. It’s not pleasant to listen to them at all but it’s nice on the other hand how they are completely east coast biased and since I live on the west coast, they are never in pacific division buildings. NBC also has this things of showing ads on half the screen with the game muted on the other half and it goes all the way up or even past the puck drop on the following face off. It is extremely annoying because it blocks out the commentary and arena music and makes the game really difficult to see. I do however like that NBC does a a lot of shots that show a wide view of the ice. If their lead crew was better, I would like them more. Their studio crew is decent though and they aren’t terrible as a whole.

Tuch is a handsome guy, or so my daughter tells me constantly. Perhaps the CBC director is a woman? JK I'm going to attempt to be as thorough as Brent and see how NBCSN/NBC does tomorrow. I can say that I haven't noticed the issue, so I have a feeling it's not as systemic on NBC. I know AT&T Sportsnet, which carries VGK games, did a very good job during the regular season to the point that I told my son last week I would rather watch the games broadcast by AT&T over NBC.
@thedominatior396 жыл бұрын
I 100% agree this is also a major problem in the US with NBC when I watch the Sabres MSG misses maybe at most 3 face offs per game and on NBC it’s almost 15 not saying 3 is good but it’s better than 15

Rant, Brent. 🙌 This is definitely an international issue, although not so much as it is with NHL broadcasts. It's a thing I've noticed and have been annoyed about before, but I will focus on it more in the future. If I decide to watch a game, I wanna watch the game. If I wanna see a chubby guy giving a bellydance to the world, I will watch the occasional blooper reel that NHL puts out here in YT. 💪

Real reason Canadian teams haven’t won a cup or the one big reason we need an expansion Team in Canada(why) because there is what 7 teams in Canada and 24 Americans soon to be 32 because of Seattle and its basic reasoning THE PERCENTAGE the percent of Canada not winning a cup in so long is because there isn’t enough Canadian teams the last “Expansion” was what the Ottawa Senators in the 1990’s we need quebec back screw Seattle Ik its not great business sense to move from Seattle to A place like Saskatoon But if we really cared about the Business Sense why do the Arizona Coyotes Still Live in Arizona or The Florida panthers or the Carolina hurricanes or Expand into Quebec Or Saskatoon Like come on There is Really no need to Question The Reason why Canada has not got any cups since the 1990’s
@omgitsrati93456 жыл бұрын
I’m not saying That the Canes or The cats Or the Yotes are bad teams or have Bad players or Potential but just look on any Game in the regular season and take a look at the empty seats yes Ottawa Has bad Attendance But is the league more concerned about money or are they more concerned About hockey?? Even though they would generate Billions from Game tickets and Broadcasting And Sponsorships with brands so there also is not really an excuse to keep The NHL away from Canadian Cities After all Hockey is a Canadian born sport
