Why is DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction Different?

Thanks so much for sharing, Sandy. My story is also similar to yours, but my flap failed. and my abdominal incision opened. I had thought that I had done all the needed research to find the best PS to do my surgery. One mishap after another and another and another kept happening. Your story has encouraged me to keep looking for a PS that can correct all the mishaps of the 1st PS and also, finally, hopefully, reconstruct a breast for me. Much appreciation for your sharing.

How are you now? Did you find a surgeon to do the corrective surgery?

Thanks for sharing this Sandy. I'm in UK and having double mast and DIEP flap recon on 28/11/15. Your comment that women should do their research is critical. We are not given time to breathe in this journey, and 98% women have no clue what their options are and what they can demand. My first surgeon only did LD flap redo, so guess what route he was trying to drive me down?? If I had not hit google I'd have never have hard about DIEP flap. (luckily I had chemo first so had a little time to research first) I advise ladies to hit the chat rooms on the breast cancer support sites (Macmillans and Breast Cancer Care are the best I found in UK) Ask others for their experiences and references. I was lucky and like you found a surgeon who has carried out 340 of these surgeries, Mr Naveed Jallili. I am now actually quite excited to have this done instead of dreading it. Wish me luck!!

Sounds like if someone has to work to bring money into the house, this might be troublesome.
