That is one way to see it. The other, is that he is supplying branches to the conversation that can then go further towards an outcome. It is a positive way to engage in a conversation. Sometimes he can say too much for sure, but that's only because us mortals (haha) have a hard time keeping up with it. Not always, but a lot of the time. What he does is only a part of what he is doing in order to "assist" the other person involved in the conversation in reaching the end goal. Which I believe is to get them both go have that better understanding, and unlocking a thought process for them both to have better dialogue. =) Try not to get too frustrated with him and see what he's trying to accomplish, rather than the very acute angle in thinking he is annoying for doing what he does! ✌❤☯️

Lucky to not ask me. I think religion is harmful to humanity. That's what I mean when asked about it. I also think that Christianity principles are kind and good, as well as I know that no inteligent ppl really needs to follow some stone rules to achieve spiritual and moral progress. And I believe that the only meaningful and long term lesson we take comes from our free perception and self development through life, without delegating decisions or moral concerns to others or a theological system even if it is good.

@augisr18772 ай бұрын
🟢People can find religion on their own, monks and people who meditate choose to spend time away from others to find God 🟢A book itself can not claim anything. The Bible, to be specific, is a collection of works gathered together to represent the true image of God and his teachings. So the Bible teaches people how to live in a correct and orderly way, so that they may avoid experiencing misery for the rest of their lives. In this video both people agree to that conclusion. 🟢You seem to claim that intelligent people doubt the ways of religion, but if you consider Jordan Peterson intelligent, which I would, then you can see that he does not doubt that the Christian way of life is the correct way to life life not only for individuals but for society as a whole, even Elon Musk agrees to this, whether you consider him intelligent or not. 🟢I'm not sure what you're implying here, that because the religious people are a community instead of individual people, that allows them to believe in that which you consider lunacy? Again many people seek God on their own, monks or not, you could be religious and not tell anyone about it, if you chose to do so. Religious people have communities for the same reason that any other group of people, who are interested in the same thing, tend to create communities for, they want to share their experiences and discuss similar topics together. 🟢I think that poeple who have a goal to search for truth will always consider whether the new information they learn is true or not. Also im not sure how religion could be considered fooling poeple. Christianity, for example, tells people to live by certain commandments, for example: "Honor your father and your mother" "You shall not murder" and "You shall not steal" to name a few. I would recognise these ideas as just and empathetic, the Bible delves more deeply into why people should abide by these ideas, and gives examples on what happens when you do and when you dont. 🟢If the so called fools revere their chains, then there must be a reason why they choose to do so. If you were to try to free a "fool" from their chains, first of all ask them why are they holding on to those chains so tightly. Perhaps then you will gain a new understanding.

Peterson is being unbelievably irritating here. He knows what Elon means. Elon means by not being religious, he means that he doesn’t believe in any supernatural entity. He doesn’t believe that there exists a literal anthropomorphic being that’s omnipotent. He doesn’t believe in an afterlife or any of these ridiculous views on the supernatural. This is what Peterson always fails to understand about the whole religious thing. He makes the mistake of thinking that religious people think like him regarding it. Not everyone is coming from a psychological perspective on social utility. There are religious people who literally believe the earth is 5000 years old, that germs aren’t real, that gravity isn’t real, that Noah’s Ark actually happened, that a man lived in a whale. These are spectacularly stupid beliefs that deserve ridicule. Elon simply doesn’t believe in the supernatural, and neither do I. That’s what he means. We don’t believe in any god story.
@keymaker21123 ай бұрын
Peterson is a very confused and confusing person, with regard to religion. I find it preposterous that theologically informed individuals have anything to learn from him regarding theology. His perspectives are interesting at times, from a psychological perspective, but at his core he's an agnostic secular liberal.
@DestinyAwaits193 ай бұрын
Yes most of those things are stupid. The Earth is not 5,000 years old, its much much older, germs are real, and so is gravity. But you may be wrong in your central axioms too. Consciousness may survive after the physical death. Energy cannot be destroyed, it can only be transformed. And the same is true of consciousness. There may very well be an afterlife.
@matiasvaldivia45662 ай бұрын
No, they're not "stupid beliefs", they are profound and sophisticated stories that have survived the pass of time for a reason. The problem is that you think they are literal. I agree that Peterson is annoying in this interview though.

The bible uses a lot of metaphors .. not everything is meant to be taken literally. If you want evidence, read the last book called revelations. So much if it is speaking in code. And all of the prophecies in the bible have came true so far. Not believing in God takes more faith by the way than believing in a supernatural entity. Nothing doesnt come from Nothing. God has always existed, we are nowhere near the intelligence of God that's why we can't understand it.

@robvegart2 ай бұрын
Being religious is not being spiritual. Being religious is believing in, but not 'believing'. You can be religious, but not spiritual. 2nd Corinthians 3:6 who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. It's not about following God outwardly, but inwardly! AMEN!!!! And not anything goes as those whom are utter religious worldly.... Mat 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. This last verse is often taken out of context and not spiritually this is why worldly religious followers pervert this and take this out of context and pass it on generationally. This has nothing to do with outward wealth, but inward wealth and where true governance is had.

True religion is what Jordan?
@stuarthdoblin3 ай бұрын
For myself, this was a cringe conversation. Words have definitions. Human institutions define themselves. In order to make any sense out of what was being said, the following words need to be defined precisely: Religion: A path from Mystery to Order. And the questions asked are: What is a religion? A Healing path for a preexisting hurt. 'Are there forms of religions? YES! How many forms of religions are there? Everyone has one. To make of someone elses path for oneself is to formalize their religion. Todays 'Formal Abrahamic Faith Religions" are: Judaism, Christianity, and Muslims. The two-word phrase: "Religious Experience ": is a redundancy. All experience is religious by definition and purpose, The Purpose of life is to share and to be shared in love, when love means the same as 'to grow up'. In other words, the Purpose of life is to grow up,to mature, to soften at the edges while sharpening at the point.

You can believe in teaching of religion without believing in a God. because from this perspective, those teachings are not sent by a supreme being, but by wise people who thought them up. Sure, they had to dumb them down for the simple people of those times, but to this day, those kind of people still exist. Unfortunately, even though I'm an atheist, I wish people would be more religious and not give into this woke current with dudes pretending to be girls, puberty blockers, etc.

Axiomatic presupposition means rules that are agreed without the need to even say them. JP wouldn’t ever say that though as the syllable count per word is too low for his liking. Being articulate imo is communicating and understanding others with full clarity. So, for me, JP is not articulate as he uses conversations as a way to show off his knowledge of large words. This just results in unnecessarily long and clumsy sentences. Also doesn’t help that he has such whiny voice. Not his fault I know, but it makes things worse.

God must be the mind within which time and space exist. God didnt create us in its image, it created us in its imagination. We dont know how consciousness emerges, or how the physical universe can come from nothing either, but if we presume instead that matter emerges from consciousness, we kill two birds with one stone. It would not be something from nothing, it would be mind from mind. I am not religous, I can believe that this universe is mental, and God is the mind. I have always struggled with religius doctrine that defines God in more detail because I believe that would be blasphemous by definition when I think about it. Although there is no reason to think that would matter to God anyway, that may only matter within our experiences.
