This is a good video with many valuable informations and answers that drivers may not know and should know.. I just got carried over to this video by seeing the topic "Why Engine cc is not rounded off?".. I thought there could be some technical reasons for that. But after seeing your answer I would like to add one important point to your answer. The exact reason why engine CC is not rounded off is for any reason the CC should be within the specified limit. The designers make sure that the CC (cubic capacity) of the engine does not go over the specified limit of 1.3 lts or 1 ltr or 1.2 ltr or 1.5 ltr. When you design an engine with a cubic capacity less than the specified limit, then it is well and good, but when you design it over the specified limit, it is not going to be approved for the specified CC category. After building your engine if you find that the cc is 1 or 2 milliliters greater than the specified limit, you cannot justify your design for approval and all you need to do is just to alter it again or design a new engine with a slightly lower capacity (CC). So for the safer side, the designers design engines which are some milliliters lower in capacity like 1.298 ltr or 1.496 ltr. The same is the case when designing the length of the vehicle. You can note that the sub-4 meter compact segment cars do not have exactly 4000 mm of length. For the safer side, they stick to 3998 mm or 3995 mm or 3991 mm, also considering their building cost of the vehicle.

Area of square with 2cm is 4cmsq (round figure), whereas area of circle with 2cm diameter is ((2/2)^2*3.14) = 3.14cmsq which is obviously not a round figure. Cylinders in the engine are in cylinderical shape, which is a stack of circles, that is the reason why engine cc are not in a round figure. Area of circle and volume of cylinder will never be in a round figure.

May be government rules ah irukalam bro.. some years munnadi delhi la air pollution nala above 2000 CC diesel engine run aaga kudadhu nu sonanga.. so mahindra devolped scorpio with 1.99 litre and recent ah in two wheelers la above 125CC s should have equipped with ABS nu oru rule potanga.. so most of the 125 bikes lam 124CC ah dhan iruku… not sure but may be irukalam la… rules as per the the CC segments

Hi bro.. @14.00 i guess CC’s are not rounded off bcz for the insurance purposes. For example:If an engine exceeds 1500cc the insurance amount almost doubles and depends upon adding cc… so to reduce the insurance cost they might keep less than the roundoff value…

Your answer is wrong for this question like why engines cc full like 1.3L is exactly 1298cc . An Engineer can’t build a full efficiency engine or machine or motor because every mechine or motor or engines have energy losses so never output efficiency is 100%
