I have something of a harsh view of Galaxy's Edge, but I've enjoyed tagging along with Ordinary Adventures as the crew explores the attraction, and there's nothing wrong with the coverage! I don't know very much about the general Disney park experience, but I'd speculate that some may see Galaxy's Edge as a glorified and very expensive souvenir shop, and that it's hard to justify a visit to Galaxy's Edge in and of itself. And other than expensive souvenir shopping about the set, there's a couple of themed places to eat and drink, a rather dubious ride/group arcade game and the privilege of being threatened with a pat down by armored guards...I'm not sure if that's enough of a draw. That last may provoke flashbacks to bad treatment by airport security on the way to visit Galaxy's Edge!

Agree, I know Disney raise prices every now and then to prevent crowds, but also make even more profit, cause even if it's expansive, die-hard Disney fans are willing to pay for expansive vacations. But they are definitely outpricing a lot of people. Also while the land looks really well built and aesthetically pleasing, it has like one thrill ride and the rest looks like a glorified souvenir shop (I've seen reports and videos of how everything in the land is ridiculously expansive). While we're at it, if I have to pay thousands of dollars for a vacation, might as well go to Disney World, where I can actually enjoy four theme parks, as opposed to two for roughly the same entry price.
@CaliKiid7145 жыл бұрын
I think these three things are what's causing Disney to be "empty". Locals are staying away from the park assuming there'd be way more tourists this summer because of Galaxy's Edge. Disney assumed millions of people would come flocking in to see the new land, so literally the only people in the parks currently are the ones with day tickets and the most expensive passes. The people who have the lower tier passes also probably don't wanna pay $149 per ticket just to go see the land. I'm hoping it stays like this through the fall, because Disney on a hot summer day is no fun lol

I honestly think the park looks better that way. Not crowded, able to enter stores and attractions on time. You might even get more attention from cast members to roleplay a bit.
@theendofit5 жыл бұрын
This is why they increase prices. They have found that while they get a lot of hate every time they do. That the resulting smaller croweds causes people to leave happier and more likely to come back. People that visit during busy days talk about never growing back and hating their time there. If Disney did not increase prices the parks would be sold out year round. Further you would sometimes be turned away even after paying if the park you choice to go to was at the fire code limit. Only way to avoid that would be to sell each park separately and not alow annuall passes at all. That's just how fire codes work. Further the over crowding would mean the staff would never have enough time to keep up with cleaning up behind the guests and it would get messier and messier each day. The parks would be in shambles after 3 years of the over crowding and probably lead to it geting shut down.

I think Disney kicked themselves by blocking everything like they did, but a few things could have played into the lower draw that you experienced. Since the park/land is basically a giant marketplace set in the SW universe, running out of some of the most popular items had to of hurt the draw. Blocking visitors already there enjoying other parks/lands had to of hurt the draw because some of the bigger/more hardcore SW fans that could have made an opening were most likely present during the reservation period. Having close to no attractions outside of shops definitely hurts draw IMO because casual fans/current visitors might not want to visit a place without rides/performances/live interactions with the biggest SW characters. IMO, the lack of rides/included performances will hurt long term draw to the SW land. I have to be honest and say that I was very disappointed when I realized the place is pretty much a giant souvenir shop VS a more interactive SW experience with attractions like rides/spot performances/live interactions like most of the other Disney parks/lands. With that being said, I would love to pick up the Legacy saber hilts....I just don't know if I will be able to make it to one of the parks to pick them up anytime soon. Hopefully Disney continues to grow the experience to motivate folks to go and/or return for another round.

What did you expect tho? You don't go to other lands in Disneyland expecting anything different. @@Jellyyfishyy I see your point and I do think what they have created looks fantastic - especially the Cantina and Millennium Falcon. I guess my expectations were too high and my fandom went buck wild on what they could do in an interactive SW land. I personally would love to see even more of the OT if/when they build onto the current park. I have already seen a nice chunk of OT nods littered throughout the current park, but send folks to Luke/Obi Wan's home, Yoda's hut, the bridge of a Star Destroyer, the cockpit of an X-Wing/Tie FIghter, walk through a skiff hovering over the Sarlacc Pit on your way to a ride with Boba Fett and that will drive a lot of people, myself included, crazy. I think the crowd size hype, scared some people off until later in the year when the second ride opens, plus, it is hugely expensive to do a lot of the things in Galaxy's edge so unless you are a passholder and live relatively near Disneyland, you aren't going to go there more than once or twice in a year. I hope they expand upon the park. I think it would be very engaging to have a Jedi Trials role play where you must complete a set of activities in order to become a Jedi Knight. I already thought of four main activities to serve as Trials. First is assembling the lightsaber like at Savi’s Workshop, except this time red is not an option for it’s forbidden to the Jedi. Second would be Jedi Training with Remotes where one will wear a helmet like Luke’s in the Falcon. And with the helmet’s visor down, they could actually be VR goggles to deliver a VR experience where you have remotes shooting at you and you must deflect them with your saber. Remember when Yoda was training those younglings to use their sabers in Ep 2? That’s what this would be like except adults can do it too. Third activity/trial would be sparring in a battle arena. Here a Jedi Battlemaster can demonstrate each saber form and how to properly hold your blade. Then you can practice against another Jedi Knight. But it’ll be pretty basic fencing practice since most people aren’t skilled at it and to avoid the chance of hurting themselves. And the fourth and last activity/trial to complete would be the Trial of Insight. Where a Jedi Master will explain about the Force and prove you can use it too. This would be a tough challenge to pull off but it’s all about giving visitors the illusion that they are using the Force. I thought of having it where each of the 5 senses would be tested. And you would have to complete challenges/puzzles by tasting, smelling, touching, hearing, and feeling. Which would ultimately be you using your insight and “tapping into the Force.” And finally once you complete that challenge, you are ready to enter the Chamber of Knighthood where you’ll kneel before Master Yoda and he will officially knight you as a Jedi. I’m not sure if they would have additional space to include all of this. But if they could, I would ideally put it inside a building that can serve as a Jedi Temple. It doesn’t have to look like the one on Coruscant. In fact, that one may be too difficult to replicate. I was thinking of the one on Tython seen in TOR game. Then in another area of the park, they can have a set of activities where you can become a Sith Lord. There you can bleed your lightsaber crystal if you were a Jedi first. Then visitors will undergo trials where they will be encouraged to dominate their fears, harness the Dark Side of the Force, and let the hate flow through them. Once you’ve completed those trials, you will kneel before the Dark Lord Darth Sidious and he will christen you as a Sith. EDIT: Also some additional things they could realistically add. A life-size Hutt animatronic. It doesn’t have to be Jabba, but I think placing a life-size Hutt that talks and moves in a cantina would garner more interest. And of course more selfies. Also it would be cool and funny if they incorporated some more creatures/monsters in the park. Either they’d be an animatronic, like a Sarlaac Pit or a Rancor. Or maybe a costume like a Wampa or Gamorrean. Just give the cast members more alien costumes to wear so that I don’t see humans everywhere. And honestly, I’m a bit disappointed you can’t sit inside the cockpit of those X-Wings and TIE Fighters. I was wondering if it was possible for them to do a game simulator much like Smuggler’s Run but with the X Wings and TIEs. Why can’t they do a simulation where you’re piloting in an epic space battle between the Rebels and Empire? All they’d need to do is copy and paste Battlefront II’s graphics, except this time your controls are inside the actual ship’s cockpits. Imagine flying an X Wing or TIE and actually feel like your participating in the Battle of Yavin, Scarif, or Endor. Of course, they’d need more than one fighter for each game session. So maybe they can make at least 6-8 more fighters for each side to actually form up a squadron for the game session. Anyways, those are just a few ideas they could realistically pull off if they have additional space and effort to do it.

~2:14 Already disappointed. In the old days, the loading area would have some sort of pre-show, and not just some painted walls to stare at. I think someone dropped the ball here. ~4:20 Yes, come see our new wall that overwhelms everything behind it. Not Good. Who cares about guest photos, anyway. We have your money, and you'll take what we give you! ~5:20 Strictly lame! Again some designer drops the ball. Instead of setting up say, even a crude "Break the beam" sensor to randomize the eyeball's appearance, the thing leaves guests standing around and doing nothing. Have they never heard the phrase "to be "pulled out" of an experience?" ~7:36: Interesting that the two predominant languages on the box are English and Chinese. ~12:00: Ok, you just walked into a definitely "Off-Earth" Cantina. What did you think the warning the girl gave you as you walked in was supposed to be? The service*Should be* "Rough around the edges." You're not from around here. Try it in any earthling bar in East Podunk sometime, you'll get the same vibe. The Cantina is the first place I've seen so far that is even remotely interesting or looks like someone put any real creative thought into it. ~17:31: Look at those Prices! Pity the family of four or more that tries to survive this place for a day without having to get a second or third mortgage on their house before the day is over! I've always felt that DL was way off on the food. They ought to keep it cheap as possible and plentiful to (wait for it....) Keep paying guests in the park The way that run things now, the prices spoil your appetite before you have any chance to put food in your mouth. I'd rather find myself in New Orleans Square, with julep or get a couple of extra rolls to feed the LBJ's. (Or have they driven them off somehow as well?) Overall: Thanks for the look, but I think I'll pass. Too expensive, by no means immersive enough, and way too "Tourist Trap-ish" for me. I'll take the price of admission, the food, and the merchandise, put it in a trust fund, and someday it might allow me a comfortable retirement

Regarding the poor stocking at the shops and using non-fan focus groups rather than fan surveys, why am I not surprised? Disney has a strict "don't listen to the fans" policy. Which, to be fair, isn't entirely unjustified, but in this case it definitely would have been better to just talk to fans.

Prices are the Reason of Crowds being so Low! If you do the math two signature passes is $ 2,300 or 2 3 day ticket is $600-$710. Or two 1 day parkhopper tickets right now is $300-400. And hotal rates are insane $400-600 on average to get in also parking $25-40 per day it does not cover your food and drinks in the park and merchandise in park. This is one of the main factors to unusual low attendances with budget cuts in live Entertainment no tommorrowland bands and food portions getting smaller while prices still climb up. Also Galaxy Edge is also poorly designed because it has 8-10 shops 6-8 restaurants while having 2 attractions in 14 acres of land one of biggest ever made in 21st century also a reason of failure. Also people are afraid of crowds of this new land and Disneyland made things too difficult for the average consumers to access the land led to a low attendance . And to add salt to injury Disneyland added too many blackout dates to annual passholders and castmembers that some will not be able to savor Galaxy's Edge for 2-3 months after opening that some said no to renewing of annual pass or no to getting a pass.
@Mark-OutWest5 жыл бұрын
If they slash all prices: room, parking, and tickets in half I'll consider going. I'm not traveling to see half a park with no REAL ride in it.
@awlabrador5 жыл бұрын
If they want to get more people, they shouldn’t have blacked out the annual passes entirely for the summer (except the most expensive passes). That’s what’s keeping the crowds away. Think of it this way: before Galaxy’s Edge and the summer-wide blackouts, Disneyland was routinely packed. Even if Galaxy’s Edge sucks, it wouldn’t drive away the passholders who’d normally have come before it; they’d have been visiting the rest of Disneyland, and they could still be visiting the rest of Disneyland if the new blackout dates hadn’t kept them away. Whoever decided on the blackout schedule covering the entire summer should probably be fired or at least demoted.
