The line "You were a useful distraction, but I have gods to kill" from Duarte is why I have faith they're going to make the last 3 books on screen. The setup is too good to not pay it off. Best part about Marko's death? Drummer called it. He was forced to flee his last battle, lost the cannons in the ring and Medina itself, and was told he was a useful distraction by the people who had been propping him up - he was shamed. And then he was taken apart on the molecular level by a power he had absolutely no knowledge of or influence over - reduced to nothing, dying empty.
@VLaks17 ай бұрын
Well Marco wasn't really fleeing exactly. He made it through the initial battle and was likely going to be able to finish off the Rocinante if he made it through the Ring. But yeah, after that he would have been screwed, unless he was able to restart the Rail Guns Reactor before the rest of the Inner fleet made it through the Ring and killed what was left of his fleet. But other than that, yeah I agree. My favorite part is that the last thing Marco sees is that Filip has left him. In his last moment, Marco turned around to look at Filip and would have just noticed that Filip was gone. Since 'Going Dutchman' is described as feeling like it goes on forever, Marco will forever feel his son abandoning him.

Important note for seasons 7-9, the showrunners and production company have repeatedly stated they want to adapt the remaining books. The two delays are 1. Amazon owns the limited rights and they took steps to retain ownership in spring 2024 despite no published plans to make more Expanse content, and 2. there is a nearly 30 year time jump between books 6 & 7, so the showrunners are strongly considering writing a brand new story set in that interim period before adapting the final books

I think it was mentioned on a podcast (probably/apparently was ty and that guy) that Dominique came up with that scream herself because she felt it was called for, and that everyone loved it so much that they kept it in. So yeah, she really is a legend. Between her and Camina, who blew you away more these final two seasons? Also MAN, as bad-ass as she is, Christjen really had to be dragged kicking and screaming into giving the Belt some autonomy didn´t she.... That smile towards Holden said pretty clearly `if you were ANYONE else, you´d be falling out of an airlock tomorrow...`. Still, to her credit, she´s not one to break her word, all be it through gritted teeth.

"Also MAN, as bad-ass as she is, Christjen really had to be dragged kicking and screaming into giving the Belt some autonomy didn´t she" That's what I love about this show: it's not afraid to make its main characters flawed people. Christjen has come a long way since Season 1, but even now she's not perfect. She's still very much a conservative by this universe's standards - especially when it comes to the Belter Question. She wanted Holden in charge of the Transportation Union, not because she thought he was the best person to lead the Belt, but because she knew she could control him (or perhaps "work with him" is better here?), and if she could control him, she could control the Belt - without using military force. She hated the idea of Drummer being in charge because *no one* can control Drummer. Drummer is a woman that Chrisjen will actually have to negotiate with. She's still thinking in terms of how best these political situations can benefit Earth. She's still very much an "Inner" with an "Inner's" outlook. Because she's not perfect.

Even with only 6 episodes left, the writers, crew and cast of The Expanse managed to create not only a complete but compelling ending. Every character gets a moment to shine. and Naomi's scream still gets me every time I hear it. For book spoilers regarding Filip and Naomi... - _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Naomi never gets to know that Filip does survive, they never meet or interact. It makes Naomi's last lines in this episode (which are pretty much directly from the text) far more poignant, about not knowing what words you say might give someone courage or comfort, what they needed to hear. It's painful for her to have to carry it with her, but it only makes her words that much more true. I'm so glad to get to watch people experience this amazing show for the first time over and over :)

It *is* a series finale. If you think about the opening in S1, the text on screen and the opening monologue frame the story in terms of the conflict between the Belters, Earth, and Mars. This is effectively the resolution to that conflict. The protomolecule is the spark that sets it all in motion. Now, there is more story to tell, but it's its own arc and they left the Laconia stuff in there to set the stage for that. Hopefully someday we'll see 7-9 on screen.

The reason why Holden was in that final meeting was that Avasarala had invited him to be there, because it was her intention from the beginning to put him as the head of the Transport Union. It wasn't an idea she came up with on the fly, it was always her plan to do it. And the Belters probably wanted him there because he'd be a voice that would be in their corner. At that point, it doesn't matter what Mars wants because they're out-voted 2-1 on his presence. There's no point in raising a stink over it. But in the books, he'd probably be wanted there because 1) Alex is still alive, and there's very much a Martian presence on his ship, and 2) Something that happened in the books that got omitted from the show that I don't quite want to spoil.

About the Laconia beginning - there's only ONE thing that has been shown in the show to scientifically be able to explain bringing someone back from the dead, and these are scientists who came to this planet to study it. Attacking a proto-monster and shoving it in a closet is a remarkable level of clear headed thinking for grieving parents, sure, but it is absolutely, positively, one thousand percent the right call.
@davebcf12317 ай бұрын
Exactly. The Laconia part throughout the season has been shown through the perspective of children who don't really know what's going on. All of the adults there with them are there specifically to work on whatever they're doing with the protomolecule so they know exactly what they're looking at when they see their kid suddenly alive again. Sure it would be jarring for them, but they also would have much more understanding of the danger that their zombie child poses.
@MattNolanCustom7 ай бұрын
@@davebcf1231 I'm not sure that's the case. Many of the settlers on Laconia were there before the rogue Martians came and took over. It's implied that Cara's family are from that earlier wave. I don't think they know shit about the protomolecule.

@@MattNolanCustom No idea where you're getting that many of the settlers on Laconia were there before the rogue Martians. It's not mentioned or even hinted at. It's pretty clear the parents are working for the breakoff Martians who are obviously running the colony. Aside from their reaction to their son, in earlier episodes we also see them going to a meeting the kids aren't allowed to attend. They definitely aren't clueless as to what's going on there. Also according to The Expanse wiki Duarte founded the colony and kept knowledge of the ring builder shipyard there secret, taking only loyal conspirators with him and using Marcos as part of the way to keep others distracted from what he was doing. Exactly how much the parents know is unclear, but it would be pretty hard for anyone who lives there to be entirely clueless. They can see giant protomolecule ships in orbit, they're scientists, and they'd have at least overheard things and heard rumors about what's going on from other colonists even if some info is being kept from them.

@@davebcf1231 _"No idea where you're getting that many of the settlers on Laconia were there before the rogue Martians. The teacher says it, Duarte says it, and I'm pretty sure the parents mentioned it as well, at least they hinted at it, more than once. It's also known from the Novella. Xan was actually born on Laconia. The soldiers had only just arrived some short time ago. That's somehow mentioned and hinted by the parents when they are ordered to that meeting. _"It's pretty clear the parents are working for the breakoff Martians"_ No, they're not. They are Earthers working for an Earth institution. They have been there for years already. They were supposed to go back to Paris after their stay, but then the soldiers arrived. That's also clearly said in the episode when Duarte talks to Cara. It's also said by the parents the they have noting to do with those Martians. _"They can see giant protomolecule ships in orbit"_ These were dead "thing" orbiting the planet. Cara called them "Sticky Moons". Only after the Protomolecule sample arrived, things started to wake up, same like on Ilus. They show it in the first episode. It starts glowing blue at the same moment the Strange Dog first appears, an "animal" Cara had never seen before despite her knowing all the other animals very well. Because the PM sample had arrived and was played with by Cortazar.

@@madux42 I stand corrected on the team of scientists already being there, but according to everything I can find they were incorporated into the new "Laconian nation" when the soldiers arrived at which point they were working for them, which is what the show seems to depict as well. Did the parents know everything about the protomolecule and every aspect of the research being done? Almost certainly not, but as scientists who had basically been conscripted by Duarte's forces they wouldn't have been completely in the dark about what's going on. Even if they weren't directly involved in protomolecule research they'd have some awareness of what other scientists there are working on, they would notice the protomolecule structures activating, and they know about protomolecule and what happened on Illus because that's public info at this point. They'd be able to connect the dots, which explains their reaction to their kid suddenly being reanimated with blue eyes and blood plus some Wolverine regen powers, and why they'd immediately want to go tell the soldiers.

I just watched you watch the finale of the best show ever. It brought a few tears to my eyes too. I’ve enjoyed being on this journey with you, because I can’t get enough of The Expanse and because your appreciation was so obvious.

Me on Episode 1: "Seeing a few reactions of you guys... but the Expanse ? instant Subscribe ! I don't wanna miss that :)" And what a ride it was :) Even through the Strikes.

Thanks for the journey Nerdy and Clarus!!! Your reactions were my 4th viewing of the series - it's really just that great!

It's been so fun watching this series with you guys. I enjoyed the different and sometimes opposing perspectives that you guys brought to the reactions. Even the Halo references. For the record, Clarus was usually right.😊 The Filip Nagata scene broke me, too. Right in the feels. There are a few videos of Adam Savage interviewing cast and crew. Give them a watch. Fun to see the actors kinda geeking out over the series. Thank you both again for watching this. Especially with the SAG-AFTRA issues half way through.

“I’d rather get shot in the front than the back” Amos proceeds to turn his back on the enemies so he can hold Bobby as they both die together, but are saved by the Roci. Such good writing.

There's no maximum speed in ringspace at this point in the story (well, other than the speed of light, of course, maybe), however they do want to be able to slow down and stop at Medina Station rather than shoot through ringspace at interplanetary velocities (which is kinda what the settlers of Illus did to avoid being stopped by the UN, et al blockade, they were going slow enough that they didn't go through the ring exactly opposite the Sol gate, but fast enough that they were in ringspace for barely a second or so).

Have loved taking this trip with you guys back through The Expanse. It’s been a double edged sword wanting you to enjoy all the things but not wanting this day to come. But it’s been a blast, thank you xx

It’s been such a pleasure watching you guys fall in love with this show and these characters over the last year-ish! So sad it’s over, Beratnas 😭🚀❤️ Don’t worry, I’m sticking around y’all’s Patreon for Sanderson book club 🥰

I have watched all the top rated TV series of all times. And still, the Expanse comes at number 1 for me. What an incredible show!

I've watched you guys throughout this whole series, and never before has Clarise's reaction been the way Philip leaving the ship. was. Hers is the correct reaction.

Thanks for coming on the expanse journey, glad you liked the ride. It'd be cool to see what you guys think of Foundation. Two other cool things that i think you'd both appreciate but probably wouldn't have a huge KZbin following: Cloud Atlas (ambitious decisive movie) The goes wrong show (British theatre based comedy) Have a great day!!

They have recently released a comic series (Dragon Tooth) set after this series bridging some of the gap before the last 3 books, sounds like a perfect in for any future tv pick up.....

Could always go back and see some of the older series that the authors have claimed as their primary inspiration such as Babylon 5. But if you want the same level of political intrigue, intense emotional impact, and 'Ship Happens,' you go Black Sails.

This is a show I feel should get the Walking Dead treatment. Yes, we need the final three books but we need spin offs, prequels, limited series. I was watching a BTS video for the ones who live and the original comic writer called the walking dead "a zombie series that never ends", This is how I feel about the Expanse; there was so much created by the two authors but also created by the creators and team of the series. This is a world that you could live in forever; this is a near if not perfect series.

That’s just hilarious. I commented you should do an entire show review on your last X-ray review, and here you are saying it here (which as you stated you’d filmed before the workers grew more). I’m up for that. Can’t wait for you to read the books, especially 7-9 where the kids (Xan and Cara) become very important.

I just want to tell you guys that you’re the best! There have been some good reactors and there are a couple of good reactors now. But you Nerdy and Clarus have been the most entertaining! It has been so much fun watching the two of you. I hope to find another show that I enjoy and that you are or will be reacting to. For now, thank you very much for all the laughs. Clap👏👏👏👏

I'm so glad you two appreciate the show as much as I do. I have re-watched it a couple times, sometime I skip an episode here and there but its very re-watchable. I would like to see you two do a book 7-9 reaction though.

The effects haven’t aged well, but the characters, story, and acting in Babylon 5 are right up there with Expanse (if you need another sci-fi show). Takes a few episodes to get rolling like most shows.

Sooooo happy to see you have the bittersweet moment of "That was so awesome" combined with your well chosen title "Why is it over?!?"
@The_Shaft7 ай бұрын
The books have so much more grit and nuance to them, they’re brutal. But also the show brings something new to the series that I appreciate, and it let the authors of The Expanse express ideas that they didn’t get to before, which I of course am thankful for. But the books are definitely a different feeling. (Also Holden’s development is much better in the books in my opinion).

The last three books pick up perfectly after this last season of the show. Thats how did it. Then i went and started from book 1.
@julius-stark7 ай бұрын
There's still a remote chance they could adapt the last 3 books, but unless the show becomes a huge massive hit on physical media or in pop culture or if Apple decides to pick up the show I don't want to hold my breath. The books are great, read them or listen to them on audio book. Two sci-fi shows I love as much as The Expanse are Battlestar Galactica and 12 Monkeys, which is seriously underrated.

The books storylines are just as interesting as the tv show but also the narrative skills of the writters are just phenomenal. You are gonna love reading the books!

Typically a railgun just shoots a slug of metal, the benefit of a railgun over other guns is that it can fire a larger slug much much faster than a bullet. There is no line, that is just special effects, in real life it would be invisible in space.
@MattNolanCustom7 ай бұрын
The railgun rounds don't show any visible line in the show. They are pretty much a fire once, takes at least a few moments to reload thing. The PDC rounds are rapid fire and do show visible lines. I would guess there are some tracer rounds in there so that the targeting AI can continually make adjustments. Plus it looks cool for the show. The PDCs are primarily for shooting down missiles which are capable of evasion. The rail gun rounds are primarily for hitting other ships, which are not so manoeuvrable by comparison.

I strongly remember the first time I started watch this series back in 2016, man I was watching the Killjoys and I wanted to watch more series aired by SyFy. The Expanse and Dark Matter were my choices. Only thing I saw was about expanse was a poster showing nothing but a guy in an astronaut suit. After weeks of not not giving a chance because not a one friend of mine haven't watch it one day at night laying on my bed I pressed play on my laptop and from the first second my whole life changed. in few seconds it became my fav show (Man I have watched so much series specially Sci Fi) and to date it hasn't change and it wont be forever.

I think the authors were working on an RPG setting before they pivoted to the novels. If they were to release a table top Expanse game, I would have high hopes for it.
