Why is jjk vs mha an argument?

I think they’re wildly different, but they are compared because they’re both shounen animes. MHA is a more emotional series because Horikoshi spent a LOT more time developing the characters, showing us their motivations, backstories, and overall had more chapters focused on the characters rather than the fighting, kinda long pacing but it pays out because many fans of the series want to see that development, want to see the characters outside of a war. In MHA you already know that the good guys are gonna win, there’s no “real” stakes, main characters are never killed, I will say it’s “lighter” not with it’s themes but it’s digestability, it’s very clear it’s meant for young teenagers which doesn’t mean it’s BAD, it can just be harder to connect with the story because it’s not as deep or eventful as older fans might like. I think MHA did shounen right though, clear story and clear morals it shows throughout the series. JJK on the other hand, is a much darker series willing to take jumps that we didn’t know were possible for shounens until we got our hopes and dreams crushed weekly by Gege 😂 He doesn’t develop much on his characters until they’re about to die or dying.. it’s much more focused on action and fighting, not afraid to kill off fan favorites, showing the darker side of emotions in battle like mental health and depression. It still is an emotional series but I believe Gege writes for the plot, not for true connection with the characters. He wants to see the MC jumping the villains, he wants to see the MC getting jumped. There are bits and pieces here and there of messages like Choso and Todo’s whole brother thing/fighting for family, Megumi’s depression, Gojo’s past arc, etc. that do show more emotional sides of our characters but it’s never a MAIN plot device, just there to connect parts of a story. It definitely appeals to at least an older teenage audience with it’s themes and you’ll find yourself thinking the good guys might lose on multiple occasions. I personally felt like JJK had much more stakes than MHA did. Similarities between the two are skin deep. They both have sunshine MC’s who want to save people, they both have lots of fights again villains, they both go into full scale wars in their series, with the main big bad being evil just to be evil, but that’s really where it stops. Their execution is WILDLY different and appeals to two different audiences if we’re considering actually sticking with the manga all the way through. I don’t think a younger person would stick JJK all the way through considering it can be confusing at times, it might be easier for them to stick MHA through because of its tell all approach. And vice versa, an older person might drop MHA or consider it “bad” just because it’s not as brooding as JJK is, and they would enjoy JJK because of the more complicated plot line and liberties it takes. They’re both good series and are popular for that reason, I don’t know why haters complain considering both mangakas making more than us at any given point 😂 I will say tho the JJK fandom is almost like the MHA fandom in its prime back in 2020 (🙋🏽‍♀️ guilty of being a part of it), the Gojo tampon incident reminded me of the Bakugou poster incident, like you said we both have our bad apples that unfortunately take the face of the community… but if you find non lobotomized fans of each we’re really not that bad Sorry if my comment is a yap fest, I enjoyed this video and it got me thinking since I never really compared them before 😂 keep posting man!

jjk has easily top 3 best anime adaptions of all time. animation and sound track is unmatched by most with ufotable being only exception. but from an an objective writing and manga art standpoint mha is better but jjk has that action element that jame bond and jackie chan energy that is unmatched by most shonen anime. if mha was animated by mappa or ufotable then it would be a different convo for sure, cause it would be one sided mha praise but it aight.

I can't really compare them. They're 2 different mangas. Mha makes me more interested and emotional for the characters. JJK makes me more interested in the plot/story/themes. The story of MHA is although interesting, not something i really cared about as much as the characters. For JJK, I've invested more time in understanding what Gege is trying to tell me through his manga. In his storytelling than his characters (even though i like them too and Yuji is my fav character). I like the serious tone in jjk and I also love how corny MHA is. I love how different/opposite both stories are to each other. I love diving deep into Gege's writing and uncovering the clues he left so we can unravel his story. And i love how Horikoshi writes his characters. The struggles his characters face and the hope that shines through his story. And superheroes! Who doesn't love a superhero stroy? I seriously hate how both communities try to tear the other down. It's exhausting at this point.

the reason why people compare these two is quite simple really. And the reason is the war arc and how Jujutsu Kaisen is the war arc that My Hero Academia should have been. As besides Midnight and Twice, we don't really see a major death that pushes the character to the core (in this case being Izuku and Yuji). Also, the animation and the "blue sky" as well. But honestly, I don't really care. I like both series and while yes, My Hero Academia DOES lack in deaths, it is NOT what the anime is focused on. And power scalers also are issues with this with toxic fans of My Hero Academia

In this sense its obvious mha has relatively succeeded while jjk post shibuya sacrificed character development and depth for what seems, alot of the time, surface level near plotless fight scenes. Megumi's domain and win against the fingerbearer is payoff to sukuna saying megumi could've done so in the first arc. Eso and kechisu, payoff the entire choso fight, and then later a payoff to choso's mental breakdown and fake memories in the noritochi kamo reveal. A payoff to mahito's speach halfway into his fight with yuji about them being the same, "I AM YOU". Dagon's domain reveal is a payoff to the island setting the curses were seen in 50 chapters prior. These aren't even close to all of them and I mentioned a few from just season 1 and 2. Jjk has a payoff to so many foreshadowed amd built up moments that saying it doesn't is actually crazy. Jjk simply has delayed gratification, the payoff to whatever you think is being set up WILL happen, only it'll be 50,100 or even 200 chapters later. Kinda like one piece. Jjk's only real flaws are it's fast pace and illiterate fanbase.

@@Blaze57420well I guess it’s just a matter of opinions then, a good amount of the payoffs didn’t feel like payoffs to me tbh, a lot of the time it felt that a lot of the payoffs were just kinda pointless (At least to me) due to the Protagonists never really making meaningful progress, towards their goal, for example the payoffs with the finger bearers didn’t really lead anywhere, due to collecting the fingers becoming meaningless after Shibuya. Also I never stated there weren’t any payoffs just that the only real one I remember was Mahito. But thanks for bringing up a few examples I forgot of.

Mha early anime (S1-3) is litteraly what we could describe as cult or classic. Wether you like it or not, this series made anime more popular in the west😭as it’s litteraly in the top 15 most popular anime of all time. Only S5 is what could be considered as having mid animation. S6 and currently s7 have the same quality if not better than the first seasons.
