I think we only heard about Hong Kong, because the English language and in this case primarily British writers and pro British rule people in HK proliferated their respective agenda's, simply because English dominates nearly all medias of communications in the world. The British resented having to give back Hong Kong, while many people from HK did not want to switch to Chinese rule, so in their own interest they were trying to create a controversy platform while incentivizing and fanning a "non independence or back to UK" movement in HK; and as far as the UK was concerned, in the traditionally underhanded cheating British style . They didn't really care about what happened with Macau, so no writers of the English language cared to talk much about that, even though it was also a momentous historical event of a colony being returned to their rightful owner (on the same date!)

This is a totally inaccurate video. It does not reflect the real Macau at all. Macau is rich because of gambling. Everyone know that. But the wealth is concentrated within a very small portion of the population. It helps also to be a property owner, as the cost of real estate is super expensive. But most of the people are poor. Don't believe it? Just take a walk through the Pennisula, away from all the fancy glitz and glamor of the casinos and big hotels. That is the real Macau. No clue. 1.The residents are highly skeptical about the free medical resource. For example, you'll be assign to a Portuguese speaking doctor and a not-well spoken Chinese translator to take care of the patient. The symptom of the patient is already an problem, they put a language barrier to double the trouble. Not to mention the misdiagnose.I ll say 90% of the citizen will rather head to Hong Kong to get a treatment. 2.Locals without a car need to squeezed into the bus that packed like a sardine can. Yet, the tourist shuttle bus are always VERY spacious. 3.If you care to take a driving license, the queue line for the test starts from 2 years. Then the driving class and the blah blah... no to mention the expensive tuition of the driving school. On the other hand, if you are Chinese with driving license, it's so easy for your to apply for a temperary in snap. 4.inflation. Just take a look at how many people walk across the boarder from Macau to Zhuhai just to do grocery shopping. What did the gov do? They give each people 9000 Pataca plus more other bonus a year to figure out all the problems they have no hand to reach a solution. At the end of the day, prospered is only a show. I only see the statistic with my own eyes

partly correct...most of macanese even for me, freshgrad, earning 18k mop...after proba it would have a significant increase also...working for 4-5years can be up to 40k or a 5k usd, not that hard while the data of gdp is totally full of bias and not the full view....

Frankly speaking, Macau citizens only benefit a subtle amount from the prosperity and mind-blowing blooming taxes from gaming revenue. Like free education for 15 years and a very low tax. However, dont judge the book by its cover, when it comes to the housing price, it rocketed, not a very overstated ratio of salary & housing price, but it soars unbelievably rapid as back to 2002(right before the blooming of casinos), roughly speaking that only 1:20 (that you earned about 4-5k and the housing is only 100k more or less), however now it's already on a 1:120 depends on person.

So both Hong Kong and Macau were handed back to China around the same time. But we didn't hear a peep nor was there any buzz when it came to Macau, rather all we heard about was Hong Kong, incessantly for that whole year ! That's interesting. Why do you guys believe that happened ?
@Patrick.Edgar.Regini5 жыл бұрын
@Si Filey Because Hong Kong is Britain 's interest. and Macau would concern Portugal instead. Britain wants always to dominate, control and keep as much as it can that belongs to others, and if it can achieve Hong Kong breaking from China so it can keep it as a satellite "associated" territory it will encourage and support it. The world's information medias are dominated by the English language. Put 2 and 2 together.

Except for the casinos, Macau is almost like in one country one system arrangement. The city has practically been in the central government's control from 1970s, long before the 1999 Portuguese handover. They have implemented national security law enforcement right after the handover and hence no political opposition can get foreign funding from outside and grow.

Worth pointing out that they were even allocated extra lands from mainland to grow their education and R&D. They enjoy every piece of economic benefits as the government follows orders all the time.

these houses at 3:14 are not poverty level house. you should look at India where people live in poverty. these sort houses are for the middle class in India.
