I actually expected Ancelotti to continue with the 4 3 1 2 formation that was so successful last year and just slot Rodrygo into the Bellingham position while Vinicius and Mbape form the two-pronged attack and Bellingham slots into the Kroos midfield position. That way only Mbape plays catchup to a new system of playing while all the other players are already used to the team dynamics. And it also helps Bellingham not to overwork himself and risk burnout because like it or not, playing this way, he is fast heading towards that.

There was no balance whenever our attack got disspossed Jude and Fede had to run back a lot to recover it not to mention you had Carlo refusing to make subs until minute 87. Real Madrid will be fine. Actually it wasn’t surprising at all. Even in supercup, especially 1st half, Madrid really looked a bit out of place against an Atalanta team without some its top players. Firstly we have to look at Ancelotti; you picked 4 attacking players who did not complete preseason with the team and left i late to bring on substitutes for intensity and creativity. Bellingham NEEDS to start playing deeper as a proper midfielder with two wide attackers and one focal attacker - Madrid also need to address Mendy as a fullback. There will be no need to address balance if the ball is released quickly from midfield into space for the attackers to run onto … faster transition more intensity and creating a compact midfield and defense is the easy solution

Problem is - Mbappe strength is speed - as a winger he excelled and had to typically deal with one player at the time. As a center it will be hard for him with low block teams in La liga where speed doesn’t matter anymore. Also he will have to deal with two defenders most of the time and they won’t take it easy on him. There is a big question, how he will adapt in dressing room, he’s known to be queen bee in PSG and whether he’s got in him to find humility to be accepted or they will despise him. The match with Mallorca… the opponent threw a great challenge no doubt about that….. but personally i think the work should definitely start at recovering the ball lost and making that run. The midfield as sad as it is we don’t have kroos which means the ones we have will have to find a rhythm and be able to dictate the game esp offensively…. There are times when the forwards were crowded at just one side if the pitch, but the again we have the best of them being their best in the left side so untill they really learn to utilize the other sides of the pitch and not leave rodrygo alone on the right then the team can have a great dance. Also , some pundit said “right now it’s like they all trying to be less unselfish (forwads)” to try and create that team spirit. And I totally agree with this, we saw chances where mbappe, vini, could be a little selfish and make a run to actually try score bt instead make unnecessary passes to a fellow so to seem not selfish. On paper a 3 man mf of tchouameni valverde and Jude looks balanced. However, none of the 3 are mf controllers which affects rm ability to control tempo. Valverde and Jude are ball carriers, while tchouameni is a destroyer. The addition of mbappe is actually a disaster rather than a blessing, as the front 3 is now a full of lw. It is very difficult to tell Jude to play Kroos role as he just simply doesn't have the attribute to do so.

This ain’t Ligue 1 anymore, you’re not in the French League buddy, bro needs to get used to playing stubborn defenses like Mallorca week in week out. When he saw the entire Mallorca team defending, bro was thinking to himself, “this isn’t the same mid table teams that he was used to stat padding against” when he was in the French League. We see this with some of the more weaker teams in La Liga, they usually park the bus whenever they play against Real Madrid or Barcelona as they’re going to defend for the whole game and then out of nowhere, they’re going to create chances whenever they’re on the break and that’s exactly what Mallorca did yesterday. Football is different now than it was 10 years ago as the game has become more about tactical fluidity than solely about purely individual brilliance, but the fact that Messi Ronaldo Neymar Suarez and other players were putting up staggering numbers while playing those type of defenses it tells you just how good their individual ability was in their peak and Mbappe is going to get used to this and that’s not a bad thing for him. I wouldn’t say that he ghosted and did nothing throughout the yesterday as he had his moments despite not having a great overall performance, but Mbappe is still adapting to Real Madrid’s system and they’re still getting used to him. His performances against Mallorca and Atalanta (despite scoring a goal) is a small sample on what his career at Madrid is going to look like because what if in the next game, he scores a hat trick as that’s what could happen. I don’t blame people for questioning his tactical fit in the team in a sense that his role on this team will be much different from how he was playing at PSG and I understand that he can play through the middle as a center forward, but everyone has known for a while that his best position isn’t as a striker, he’s an elite winger and he plays his best whenever he cuts in off the left, similar to when he was at PSG with Neymar, he’s on the same team as Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo 2 players who usually cause havoc when they play off the left. Mbappe isn’t a poacher or someone who plays with his back to goal and with a player of his caliber on the team this was always going to be an issue for Real Madrid from a tactical perspective in a sense that you don’t want to make him adapt to something that he’s not and if he’s playing on the left, then he’s occupying the same spaces that Vini takes up on the pitch and either him or Rodrygo will move to the right or the middle. With the way in which he has been involved in some brilliant goals alongside Vini Bellingham and Rodrygo so far with slick football great movement and skill between each other, their chemistry has the potential to get even better with every passing game and it’s a sign of just how good this Real Madrid team will truly be when it all clicks and Carlo Ancelotti gets everything right.

Rodrygo needs to spend more time on his wing and not on the left. Everyone was going to the left and giving the other teams left back with nothing much to do. When Mbappe or Vini got the ball there were two or three defenders on them. Meaning there were free Madrid players. Where were they? Guys were holding the ball too long and moving it around too slow.

Not surprising at all. Familiarity takes time regardless of talents. Even against Atalanta, who didn’t have some of their top players from last season, Madrid struggled quite a bit in the 1st half. Mbappe has always been a trouble maker since 2-3 years, either with psg or with the French national team. His ego will make the team frustrated because he hates to make any sacrifice for the team(defense, pressing or even make a run to free others). Vini lost possession more than 10X at which point I stopped counting and not a single time did he track back to make amends for his mistakes. Not once. That’s unacceptable. He had the most turnovers, as usual. Vini’s head is getting too big for his own good! Carlo needs to have a serious talk with him.
