Megatron's face-turn in the IDW comics was a groundbreaking idea that Hasbro wanted to try something new. It ended up being a genuine transformation of his character, not only did it last until the final issues of "More Than Meets The Eye" and "Lost Light" which ended the series, but it worked. It's nice to see the idea expanded into other universes of the franchise.

I really like that the creators of TFE made Megatron a good guy. We've seen him be a terrifying warlord many a times in sooooo many different forms of TF media. This change of pace is very much appreciated and is an interesting twist. I suspected that Dot was the main reason for his change in character due to her compassionate nature, and I just think it's really wholesome that a once dangerous warlord was able to form a strong friendship with a human. Dot and Megatron's friendship is absolutely adorable! I like that Megatron's badass personality wasn't completely diminished once he sided with the Autobots. You can still see undertones of it whenever he fights rogue Decepticons that choose to cause trouble or other villains. Transformers Earthspark does a good job showing that Autobots and Decepticons can live in peace. It's just all up to the individual and how they choose to live their life. I really hope we see Megatron and Starscream interact in the new batch of episodes whenever they're released. 🙏🏾 Edit: Fixed typo

This gets explained well in a later episode, but basically his war mongering got the better of his cause, he was a working class boy forcing to become a gladiator by the government till he formed his Decepticons and overthrew the classist government, hence why he says to Shockwave “class?! You have learned nothing!”. He had gotten so caught up in the war and in victory he forgot WHY he was fighting, a better life for everyone cybertronian, Dorothy presumably found him abusing his men at some point while he possibly had her captured and criticised him for hurting those he fights for. A lot of speculation but he says Dorothy had more care for cybertronian life than he did and that’s why he changed sides, he became the very thing he swore to destroy. Basically James Roberts take on the character but with a human for his change of heart.

... did Megatron have to serve time for his war crimes? I mean, like.... it makes me think of the sopranos where they pick someone up, they have charges on them, and to avoid dealing more time they might go back in with a wire for a bit, but they still have to do time, and then witness protection gets them out of there. Obviously this is different, Megatron seems to be compliant regardless, but I guess I have a hard time believing our government would trust him in any capacity..... ya know what though, then again, in war time, weirder stuff has happened. I mean, I could see the U.S. like... recruiting some kinda ex terrorist or war criminal and waving it off as the ends justifying the means, and then they get pardoned quietly or something. Did Megatron receive a presidential pardon? Listen, I know it's a kid's show, but now I wonder if they go into any of this, even in sort of an abstract way. It's weird, cuz you know they're not gonna say, "Megatron killed many humans and cybertronians as the leader of the decepticons," but they have been at war, it's kinda hard to suspend my disbelief that it didn't happen. I dunno. I'll give the show this though, that image of Megatron walking skyward and thundercracker around in handcuffs kinda makes it all worth it, if not for me loving both of those boys and wanting nothing bad to happen to them despite what I just said about megs. Oh well.

Megatron strikes me as the kind of guy who's driven to restore Cybertron to glory by any means necessary... even if he has to give in to the ideals of honor, friendship, and freedom espoused by Optimus. Megatron is a good guy because after the loss of their only way back to Cybertron, he just wants a new home for himself and for the Decepticons. He also has a cool friend that he wants to stay with. He mentions himself that he just wants better for their kind, while the humans have been imprisoning and experimenting on the Decepticons. I'm not sure if Megs knows the extent of what the humans do to the Cons, though...

While I still prefer your usual evil Megatron, I do have to admit that Earthspark’s take on Megatron is a really interesting fresh & above all good take on the Greatest Leader of the Decepticons. It’s rare to see a Megatron who redeems himself and gives up on his tyrannical ways, so it’s nice that Earthspark’s take on Megatron is a complex character who has good chemistry with that show’s take on Optimus Prime (voiced by Alan Tudyk).

megatron was a good guy. originally. many many many years ago. the war, it twisted him, his goals, his morals, he became a monster, seeing that it seemed to be the only thing that got his goals and ideals out. he lost himself and became, well. the megatron we know. he once fought against tyranny. against the cast system of cybertron. but... only to become a tyrant himself. in this. the war ended. megatron was reminded of why he ever became megatron in the first place. and is trying to right the wrongs he's done. he knows he doesn't even derserve it. and that many will never forgive him. but he's trying to go back to who he once was. fighting to protect the innocent instead of harm them.
