With most of those that came to make the Autobot ranks being richer, naïve and unaware of the suffering their government was enforcing upon those who eventually became Decepticons. Where as those who became Decepticons were slave miners, some turned gladiators of Kaon and other Southern cities - having to fight against everyone to just survive The Decepticons were the resistance against a corrupt government, but during the war the Megatron indeed changed and lost sight of his original cause, and became the very corruption he swore to tear down. Leading to the Autobots becoming a resistance against a tyrannical military force The history of Cybertron's conflicts as a whole (Primus vs Unicron, the conflict between Megatronus and the other Primes, Optimus and Megatron) is incredibly interesting in it's repetition of ideologies and influences for either side

One thing of particular interest for me in this scene is Ratchet bringing up Megatron's brutality against Bumblebee, rather than mentioning the death of many other comrades. It goes to show how traumatized Ratchet was by that particular act, and his inability to reverse it. We all have some 'less' relevant memories that leave great impacts on our characters, and having understood that long ago, that line hit me differently than the rest of this brilliant scene.

@@alexale5488 I think he still cares for those who lost their lives but from what I understand of Bumble Bee or B137 he was the equivalent of a 17 year old teenager joining a war and seeing how close he was with Optimus he could've bounded with Ratchet which could've made it more tragic to see this young idealistic kid get brutalized for standing his ground and to protect his friends.

@@alexale5488this comment is two years old but i still enjoy discussion of ideas. Numbers dont really matter to humans on a base level (and therefore Autobots, who are a human creation). It's about the personal relationships between those numbers. 10'000 fire ants being killed is nothing to us, even though those creatures are all living individual lives, however conscious they are of it. What matters is the relationships we see. Ratchet remembers that moment more than the thousand other deaths because that's his comrade, and i think its a fate he'd want Bee to be able to avoid, but he cant make that happen, so Ratchet struggles over it. Even in the Bay movies (my first TF exposure), Ratchet is the one to comment on Bee's voice box. I always got the impression that, at the very least, Ratchet felt that he should've been able to do something about it as a medical officer and comrade. sorry for the super long comment, this response is a passion born of the alcohol ive drank tonight xd

Something I find fascinating about this show, and most Transformers content in general, is how personal the “war” feels. Everyone knows each other by name, and no one ever really uses titles unless it’s within their own ranks. Cliffjumper refers to Starscream, the second in command of the entire Decepticon army and his eventual killer, as Scream. Any autobot can have a civil conversation with the power hungry tyrant that heads the Decepticons if they stay alive long enough for him to calm down. Decepticons and Autobots can have rivalries with the opposing side. If anyone has respect for someone on the opposite side, it’s usually because of something that happened before or unrelated to the “war.”

Megatron was always one of my favourite characters in TFP. The design as a villain, is so well done. He's intimidating, he's more than ready to join in a fight, intelligent and surprisingly actually has moral standards. Remember when Starscream fought Optimus and Starscream was about to finish him off but Megatron comes in at the last second. As Starscream said, Optimus is right there ready for the taking. The respect Megatron has for Optimus, and would rather fight him to the death himself than simply give the killing blow after someone else had done all the work. Means a lot
@mallow803 жыл бұрын
Pfft. That isn’t intelligence, that’s obsession. He may be a cunning and morally agreeable commander in other continuities, but in this one he’s….not. Sure, he’s intimidating, and knows how to manipulate people (see: Ratchet, Starscream, OP when he turned back to Orion Pax) but the combination of dark energon-induced blood craze and his obsession with OP leading him to literally follow him around when Megatron could do ANYTHING ELSE speaks volumes. Though you do make an excellent point when it comes to his design. 10/10, excellent villain dynamic.

The only way Optimus Prime dies is if Megatron kills him, according to Megatron. He'd never let anyone else do it, and tells all his forces that try that they're wasting their time. He's obsessive, like he is with Starscream, not intelligent. Besides Starscream, Megatron is the biggest reason the Decepticons haven't been victorious the entire show. One or both of them is constantly setting the others back. Megatron doesn't do countless things he should when he has the chance, all because of his own arrogance. He didn't kill Bumblebee, didn't kill Starscream, didn't kill Airachnid, killed Dreadwing instead of Starscream, killed off his own Predacon army, the list goes on. Buckethead is where he is because of pure power, and for some reason, he has the allegiance of people much smarter than he is (Soundwave and Shockwave).

I believe this is really my favorite version of Megatron. He’s fleshed out, and his ability to be deceiving yet honest at the same time perfectly represents how he was as a politician, but I’m sure he was more honest and persuasive than deceitful. A warrior who gained respect through out his gladiator days. It’s even more exciting to believe he was extremely ambitious- he wanted to connected both Earth and Cybertron due to the link- and of course rule them as equals. It’s methods are surely wrong in order to complete such a task, but it’s interesting nonetheless. Equals meaning becoming connected, and ruled by his faction. I honestly don’t understand why people thought this Megatron was stupid during the time episodes were coming out. Sure there has been times where shit gets over his head, but the cons have had more wins than the bots for almost three seasons straight. Getting Frank Welker to reprise his voice as Megatron was one of the best decisions and such a genius move on the show runners parts. Even Jeffery Combs as Rachet is a phenomenal casting choice, his voice fits the character so well. The dialogue between Megatron and Rachet is so good here. These are two characters who have a personal history with Optimus but could not be more different from each other and only one of them stayed by Optimus’ side. You can feel the hatred in Rachet’s voice but Megatron is calm and collected, he is trying to rial Rachet up to get inside his head and it works. This is how you write Megatron Micheal Bay

Transformers Prime was a kids show in its time. But the writers, animators and whole team come to a realization; these kids will be an adult with time and decided to give us this. One of the most interesting things I've noticed in this show is the stark difference between the first 10 episodes. And 3rd season.

That’s what I like and why I prefer Prime and Armada over G1. But to be fair, G1 had some corny yet enjoyable chemistry-related labels and insults. Spike: Let go of me you beryllium buzzard! Megatron: Resist! Terminate them! Reduce them to Lithium Litter!!!

I legitimately learned several words from this show as a kid. Antiquated, collaborate, oblique, cataclysm, and minutia were some examples of that.

The most terrifying thing about Megatron is his brutal honesty and straightforward-ness. He doesn't beat around bush unlike other villains in other shows. I also remember in beast hunters this interaction: Predacon: Megatron, you were responsible for the extinction of my brethren Megatron: indeed and my only mistake was not seeing the extermination through. Megatron said it straightforward unlike others who'd try to convince him

The last line of dialogue goes so hard. The entire dialogue was absolutly impeccably written. Every line counted. And not to mention the VAs that conveyed so much emotion. This series was brilliant, the best I'd confidently say, and I dont believe they will make ever again a series that good. This is peak fiction right here.

This is definitely (collectively) the most interesting talk between the factions in the show. Arguably the most honest Megatron has ever been (he knows he can't fool Ratchet anyway, and doesn't even try), and Ratchet commits to wanting Cybertron revived, even if he has to get his hands dirty to do it. The only way to save Cybertron would be for the factions to unite their forces, in some manner. Very cool.
@mrsbasia122 Жыл бұрын
The writing here is superb. Megatron doesn’t insult Ratchet’s intelligent by being anything but brutally, devastatingly honest. And despite Ratchet knowing that Megatron will purposely misuse his technology and probably destroy him afterwards, can’t help but comply. To save his planet. Now THAT is a good villain. And I love how both sides can’t help but begrudgingly respect the other.

Prime’s incarnation of Starscream is despicable, to an extent, but in my perspective, in terms of both comedy at his expense and a few rare moments of brilliance and helpfulness on his part, he’s essentially the Transformers equivalent of Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown.
@inkyfreak2 ай бұрын
If I remember right, the books elaborate that most Decepticons where heavy laborers like Bulkhead and Wheeljack, Minicons who where often overlooked and fell into hands like Soundwave's, or Military Seekers like Starscream. Lowly workers where shorted the hardest in the caste system, hence how Megatron started in the Gladiator arena to be heard to larger masses of the upper class. When Optimus became a Prime is when they divided who they followed and most chose Megatron because he started the cause, where Orion/Optimus seemed to be an interloper. The Seekers joined them after most of them (Starscream included) where displeased with the political figures they were supposed to protect. It's not a surprise that Decepticons outnumbered Autobots 3-1 and had the upper hand in engineering, it's what many of them did their whole lives, and the miliary seekers where the strategic backbone of most operations, they had the means to take what they wanted where the Autobots did not. Most Autobots were middle class or incredibly young, like Bumblebee (He was born shortly before the war began). The Autobots prioritized the security of Iocon and the Well of Allsparks, as it was one of the only ways they could keep their numbers comparable to Decepticons until the well was poisoned and they were forced to leave the planet to find resources.

The relationship between these two are so deep it constantly amazes me how this show really conveyed all the characters. I feel that instead of OP and Meg being the typical opposites, it’s actually Ratchet and Meg opposing one another. This is because Ratchet holds him solely accountable for destroying their home and for hurting Bumblebee (let’s be honest, he is a total dad to him). Probably the only 2 things he hates Meg for: being a person that kills while Ratchet tried his best to save others’ lives. I feel those sentiments are always shown in every continuity he has been in, within some form or another. I love this show.

I may be slightly nostalgic for TFP because I grew up with it, but honest to God this is one of, if not THE, best versions of Megatron. He's physically imposing and unbeatable for anyone other than Prime, yet he's also on another intellectual level when it comes to deception/persuasion. You can almost be fooled into thinking he's a good guy with how logical his arguments are, yet you can just tell he's being completely dishonest the entire time. Its that slightly unhinged nature of, 'I know you know I'm bullshitting you, but will that do anything to stop you?' that gets me, the way Megatron's eyes go wide and he has that manic look to his face, of someone who is juuuuust about to tip over the edge into total insanity yet remains in control. Absolute favourite version of Megs by a long shot.
