Metal has genuinely got me through personally tough times when I didn't have many people to turn to. My second relationship was with an emotionally manipulative guy who completely changed how I acted, how I expressed myself, and he treated me as his personal therapist and caretaker, as far as emotions go. Its been a while since we broke up and theres still emotional and mental scars for me. Every now and then I get bad panic attacks from things that make me revisit extremely detailed memories of being with him. Metal is the only thing that's allowed me to funnel my rage somewhere besides myself or other physical things. I've been able just let everything out. Its cathartic in a way.
@meganwhite90904 жыл бұрын
Metal is like the release valve on a lot of people's emotions, it lets you vent and get things off your chest and at the same time it feels good to hear that someone else understands how it feels, it helps focus the anger on something constructive too

Megadeth, Metallica and Pantera is like therapy for me. there's all sorts of problems relevant to me and i don't always think having a sit down and cry is the best way to go. Metal and for me particularly thrash metal is motivating and in a way uplifting it leaves me clear and feeling like I've worked through something, made progress. and once I'm done with the anger I usually hop to Iron maiden for something uplifting then the cure for something optimistic, chuck on some daft punk for the wind down and finally Johnny Cash for something soothing and blue.

Being normal in our society means to keep silent about the dark stuff that happened to us, the traumas that we had to face. But not talking about the problem doesn't make the problem go away, it just makes it feels heavier and heavier each passing day. It's poisoning you from inside. If you are lucky, you might have some understanding people around you - family or friends - that you can open to, but some of us don't have even that. And with most people, we are just supposed to smile and pretend like we are okay, even if we are not. It's isolating, frustrating and emotionally draining. And then we discover metal - safe place where we can let out our inner demons without the fear of judgement, where we can confront the past, together with other people who went through the same stuff as we did, so we finally feel understood and not alone. I can positively say that since getting into metal, my mental health improved drastically.

I also auditioned for Anthrax when they fired Neil Turbin. I was also a Christian at the time (and still am) which was my greatest weapon against other Christian's, who tried to turn me against Heavy Metal. I also listened to Slayer, Venom, Mercyful Fate and others because it was just art. There were some bands I avoided such as Atheist because the drummer wore swastikas all the time. Another band I avoided was called Incubus released a demo called "Christ Died On His Knees". Also not all Thrash musicians are "Chill". All the guys in Slayer had a reputation for being a-holes as were Megadeth. In fact all four of the big Thrash bands avoided going into the crowds and hanging out with their fans. And not all the Christians that I debated were aggressive. On a final note, why aren't these Atheists going after Islam? But they're brave for standing up against those violent Christians who threatened to pray for me.

@Zamza the music saved me because one of my pets died so I had nothing else to do but be angry and Metallica was the band that saved me because I listened to A song by them and I’ve been a metal head since that day

I've listened to death metal to fall asleep.. something about the drone of the guitars. I've listened to metal/hardcore when I'm happy.. 🤷♂️ why is it a given you have to have a chip on your shoulder, hate religion (which is ALWAYS Christianity and NEVER the all sacred we-don't-go-there Islam), have an attitude problem, despise all authority, or basically say something nice about SlipKnot every other loudwire video to wear the all sacred badge of "I'm a metal head" ... I'm probably not a genuine metalhead and I'm sure most are not. Still like metal songs though.

You don't have to be angry to be a metalhead, if you like the genre and are a fan of it that's about it

The interesting thing about Metal is that the same song, that helps venting your anger and negative emotions also can pick you up when you're down and increase positive feelings and just makes you feel good.

I agree Thrash Metal saved my life and gave me power I thank James Hetfield for how I'm a changing teenager that is focusing on the good and ignoring the bullies and the girl drama that us highschool dudes in the hood get into

Also I love that you took it back to the history of anger in music with Woody Guthrie and Billy Holiday. I always appreciate people who aren't chained to one genre and see music as a big whole.

What Alternative metal is mad at depends on the band, for example: soad is angry at polotics

Metal is the personification of someone seeing the world for what it is and how messed up we have made it and realizing that there is nothing we can do to change it, then putting that anger and frustration to music. To me nothing works better to calm me down when I am angry than putting on a good song and thrashing out to it.

One time while on a roadtrip with a friend, she asked me why I was so obsessed with metal and knew as many songs as I did. Much like how you ended this video, I explained to her it was like a cathartic release of emotions. A way to let it all out in a good way, first aid for the soul. We listened to some more songs and I explained some of the emotions behind certain lyrics and eventually she seemed to get it. At the end of the trip she was exploring different bands and even took a liking to Mustasch.

The "metal" distortion guitar already gives it away: that's the instrument chosen for anger, aggression, testosterone, darkness, evil, bad-ass, etc... That's why I've been hesitant to call anything metal that's about a sad breakup or being sung with teenage-clean melodic vocals.
@Qwerty-ks8dn4 жыл бұрын
You mean all that metalcore rubbish for pop fans who wanna be metalheads but without having to listen to metal...
@bertalanolah65654 жыл бұрын
@@Qwerty-ks8dn Don't even get me started mate :D Periodically someone comes up with a formula on how to dilute metal to make it hip. When that's successful a lot of chimps jump on the bandwagoon which ultimately falls into a cliff after a few years. I'm not mad at the children who got hooked, I'm not mad at the sales people or the bands who wanna milk them for some money, I'm just mad that this music gets tagged as metal and makes it harder for me to hunt for music. I can't just start some metal classics playlist on Spotify without getting Linkin Park. I get notifications from apps that Disturbed plays in my town because I've given metal music as my main interest previously. Just call that genre 'distorted lame' or something and leave me at peace, I'll do the same :D

Metal music is about 100% expression, and people try to surpress your anger and metal let's you express that anger, everyone's too busy telling you it'll get better but it's ok to be mad, if you keep it in you'll be a ticking time bomb
