i think another reason mickey is so loved is that he’s one of the only characters that really changes, especially in the early seasons. when compared to like fiona or lip who keep doing the same things over and over again to somewhat ruin their lives essentially, mickey is one of the few characters who actually progresses and works to better his life
@tonyjayemauni69084 жыл бұрын
Finally someone who sees things the way i do!! I really loved Fiona and Lip too but they just kept getting worst as the episodes go but till i didn't want to see them anymore. But Mickey i saw potential in from the start and i am glad he got the chance to grow and evolve if it's even in groomzilla 🤣🤣 Carl too he has come a long way caring about people outside of his family, the community and country its say a lot about the boy who couldn't read and was only interested in hustling and blowing up stuff. I'm very happy Liam didn't have any side effects of the drugs and used all the hustling and tricks he was raised around to make himself into a successful manager and a productive young man st age 10. Debbie i cannot stand, from she started with that want sex thing and keep going off on Fiona till she got pregnant and started stealing to provide for the child i was done with her. And my boy Ian he's done some crazy shit and i was scared he my catch something and die but he's been through hell and back and Mickey love helped him find his way was a good thing that distraction Monica died.

@@TheGipsonclan i think ian also changed for the better, and after a very long time, so did lip. the thing is, for ian, he fell to his lowest point and after struggling, he developed into a better person. but, in ian's case, that better version of himself was pretty similar to who he was back in season one (because s1 ian was pretty much perfect). i actually like that he goes back to that. because he goes from giving in to his mental illness, to going back to his healthier ways (though that's obviously after getting his medication and learning to live with bipolar disorder). lip also fell to a low point before showing some development, and this time, he developed into someone so much better than who he was for almost eight seasons. carl also goes from a psychopathic child to a typical american, lmao. but, yeah. mickey definitely has the best character development in the show.

I'm a black and white thinker, it's part of my disorder, and I can't tell you how challenging he was as a character for me. However the scene where Ian runs to Mickey when his mother came back, struck a nerve with me. The fact that he dad was yelling down the house, no telling what nightmare Mickey was in the middle of, but Mickey found a way to be there for Ian, in a real way. Mickey was capable of compassion and love, and I think he was waiting his whole life to find a path out of the closet, and having a real life. Mickey's growth at times made me weep. This show would not have been anywhere near as good without Mickey. I understand why people went so crazy when we lost Mickey for large gaps at a time. His character development is both a credit to the writers and to Noel Fisher who portrays him so well. Noel can do the thug thing well but is also so gentle at times it can be felt. Award worthy acting, brilliant writing and perfect casting. I know he wasn't ever supposed to be a major part of the show, but thank God Noel and Cameron's chemistry made the writers change their minds and create a much larger role for him. Mickey's character also shows that people are capable of becoming better people even when they were raised in rough circumstances, with abusive parents and having poor role models. I hated him in early seasons but he became one of my favorites in the later ones, after I saw his struggles and how he overtime tried to be better. With different outcomes, I didn't always like his decisions even when I started liking him, but becoming better is a process and a person will still mess up sometimes

Micky is different from Terry for sure. However, I think Ian is different from Rachel too. In the same scene Ian told Rachel that since her father was out of the way, she could have married Terry, making Rachel her husband and Michy looked at him weird. And when Ian warned Franck about Micky wanted to kill him, Ian's only worry was that he did not want Michy to go to juvi. So despite the years, it seems that Ian would still have be ok with Michy killing Franck. Not sure how it would have played out with the other siblings allowing him to continue the relationship, or even Michy wanting Ian in his life after what he did, but it seems that it would not have been a reason for breakup to Ian.

Except for the stupid job interview (which I forget) I liked S11 Mickey and thought it not too ooc. Gallavich was 6 months into their marriage. When the work begins. Mickey had barely earned a legal $ in his life and he knew that Ian didn't want him to do anything illegal. He felt comfortable and safe with Ian and a family. But he lacked direction. Jerome gave him a push, just like Mandy in s4. I wish that we could have seen Ian wake him up at some point, to see if he still woke ready for a fight. The Terry stuff was golden healing. Mickey's reaction to moving was understandable but Ian realizing that he needed to consider him was what Mickey needed to be all in.
@darth61293 ай бұрын
The "problem" with S10-11 for every character is that the tone abruptly changed from a dark comedy/drama feel to just straight up comedy/adult sitcom. Realism is out the window so the characters kinda just stagnate and became exaggerated versions. Like all the S10 stuff was very ridiculous, especially the Paula storyline. And in previous seasons tone the Ian/Mickey marriage drama probably would have been a lot darker. Not saying there isn't some dark moments, but most of it is just undercut by comedy. I still like last 2 seasons a lot especially compared to 7-9 which were just super dull.

i think something important to note about mickey is the fact that he never does things for no reason. he always has a motive. no matter if it’s a good motive or not but he never does things out of the blue like some other characters do. every line, every action and every emotion he has is always backed by some sort of thought out motive or plan and when he does something intense and sudden, even that comes with a reason for example, when ian says “he used to punch me and insult me a bunch before we banged” as if mickey used to abuse him.... that’s incredibly not true and really hypocritical on ian’s side in every way..... think about it, mickey has never actually punched or insulted ian with no reason... ian has always been the one to either punch first or to provoke mickey into a fight. the only times we’ve ever seen mickey actually hit ian first is when ian is condescending or trying to get him to talk when he’s clearly emotionally confused and wants to be left alone... i’m pretty sure that ian is the one who actually insults mickey for no reason a lot more than he realized. overall, mickey in the first 5 seasons of the show was one of the only well established, amazingly articulated and well thought out characters that everyone fell in love with, having him removed from the show was the writers biggest mistake. i would even venture to say his characterization levels were on par with frank himself. they gave both men so much personality, focus, objective and it actually shows when you see frank and mickey interact at times. they are such well scripted and developed characters that their conversations just connect well. mickey truly deserves that spot as being so loved and valued and the show wouldn’t be nearly as good without him

Love this insight. I wish they had kept a Milkovich storyline post S5. I know that Noel left but that was lack of recognition of how important the character was and not paying the actor enough. Ian and Mickey didn't have to be together to keep a storyline (still endgame though of course). Without the Milkoviches, the story lost Southside. Which is what it was supposed to be all about.

It makes me so sad, though, that I could never have a relationship like these two, messy as it was. "Messy," doesn't begin to describe it, though, does it? I guess I would like to have had a relationship as (now I can't think of a word that fits) as these two. Anyway, thanks for posting. Subscribed.

Mickey has had the BEST character development of any character on Shameless! The changes he’s made from S1 to now are amazing!

Ya I agree I think that everyone should be able to come out when they themselves are ready. No pressure, no nothing, just let it happen when it needs to happen

I think it was fair kinda because Ian was being made into a "mistress" (in Ian's words), so that Svetlana and Terry would be satisfied. Ian wanted to stop seeing Mickey due to being put in this position all the time, Svetlana and Terry had complete control over their relationship to the point Svetlana could kick Ian out of Mickey's own house or have him not see Ian altogether. Pretty much the only way for Mickey to stop them from doing this is to stand up to Terry, which he did by coming out in front of everyone.

Mickey refusing to kill Frank is because Mickey isn't a murderer. Mickey tries so hard to live up to the standards he's learned from him father--delinquency, violence, toxic self assertion-- but when it comes to a crime you can't take back, murder, Mickey can't betray his true self anymore. He's not a murderer, and his fear for his own life is what made him consider murder in the first place. Once he realized that he wouldn't kill an innocent person to save his own hide, the only place he thought he was safe was incarceration. Mickey is one of the best natural people on the show, but his nurture almost turned him into an animal. His refusal to kill Frank is the first sign of his rebellion of the monster his father would have made him.

Probably the most misunderstood character ever. Mickey is an asshole out of necessity and circumstances, but also has a huge heart and unwavering loyalty to those who deserve it.

I think Carl is the best character and he developed a lot too. When he told Fiona he wanted out of the drug game was an extremely powerful scene.

I think another reason he’s liked so much is that every shitty thing he’s gone has 1. never been against the main characters and/or 2. in service of one of the main characters, usually Ian but others too. You can’t say that about most of the main characters....

How could anybody possibly say that Mickey was bad for Ian? If anything, it’s the other way around
@pnky91964 жыл бұрын
Neither of them where bad for eachother, ian has done some bad shit to mickey, and mickey has done bas shit to ian. And they both have vailed reasons why they do these things to eachother.

Loving Ian definitely caused Mickey alot of pain both physically and emotionally. If we never saw Mickey again after S5, I would agree that Ian was bad for Mickey. The Milkoviches sacrifice themselves for their inner circle and this is what Mickey did. Ian forgot Mickey, or appeared to, as soon as he was out of sight. However since we made it to S11 they both saved each other. Ian saved Mickey from becoming Terry. Abusive, spending more of his life in jail than out. Mickey saved Ian from becoming Monica. Going from relationship to relationship. Medications getting out of balance and nobody noticing, until he stops taking them at all (season 8)

Mickey and Carl are the show's deepest characters. With each new season, they reveal the sides of their characters from a new side, and cause respect.

My favorite moment of Mickey's character development with Ian was when they go to see Ian in the psych ward and they ask the relationship and he says "boyfriend." I was beaming at that along with Fiona at seeing how far Mickey has come

I think Shameless UK's Micky Maguire is also an incredible character. He starts off as comedic relief, even stupider then Mickey is in the first seasons, but eventually gains confidence and even leaves the estate to build his own life. I love both adaptations of Micky, but I believe Maguire should always get a special mention for my favorite Shameless character of all time.

So, I am rewatching all the old episodes from the begining and I am realizing that Frank is a horriable parent, but he LOVES his kids and has connected with all of them at some point. Please do one on Frank ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Interestingly, he has connected at least once with all of his kids but Ian. Ian was Monica's and very like Monica from the very beginning. I don't see Ian as having the same family connection or loyalty as the other siblings and I wonder if that comes in part, from his lack of a relationship with Frank. We learn that Frank wasn't his biological father but the relationship wasn't there even before that. Also, chances are that Frank would have forgotten about that pretty soon after he found out. Ian very much was Monica and Mickey saved him from becoming more Monica. Ian appeared to very easily let go of Mickey twice (who was supposed to be family) as soon as he was out of sight. If we saw Ian and Mickey as parents it wouldn't be Mickey's loyalty to the family unit in question but Ian's.
