In this video, we explore the reality that most of Canada is actually uninhabited. Other than the area just north of the USA / Canada border, our huge nation is mostly void of people. But why is that?
I discuss a few arguments including:
the historical significance of setting up communities centered around agriculture
the large distance between the northern and southern parts of Canada
the natural resources that are found in Canada and how companies make decisions on where to set up operations
the increased cost of shipping to the remote north
the increased cost of services in the remote north

its hard to get mine up and running up northern because of parma frost. the roads can only be dirts roads. Alot mine rely on ice roads because there so many lakes and marshes. Alaska has the same issues with northern part of the state. Most of alaska road network is in the south. Most of alaska is too cold for farming. How ever green house using a heat pump is possible. how ever cattle ranching is possible but it hard because of the bears.

I cant see huge cities ever forming in the canadian shield as you would need alot of food something the oceans or wild life will never take care of. You need to grow lots of food something tundra, bed rock makes almost impossible and relying purely on shipping in your food from far sources makes prices high. Edmonton is the biggest north but they can still grow crops, with lots of forests around. The roads to maintain would be very expensive with plumbing having to be above the ground due to perma frost, hardly any sun during the winter and almost pure sun during the summer. If your looking at Canada being "huge" land wise then yes we are, but is it all "habitable" to expand our population id guess more than half of Canada isnt meant for expansion. Its like asking why alot of people dont live in greenlands land mass?

When you were listing off the biggest cities, you completely neglected Calgary and Edmonton in Alberta

Thanks for your comment. The reason I didn’t include them in that list is because they are more than 100 miles away from the Canada / US border.
