My plant was half moon and has now turned completely white, struggling to keep it alive so will try the sugar for sure. Thanks

Great trick. At first I thought the sugar- “that’s wild!” Then the quarter dropped for me. One of my fertilizer recipes I use outdoors and for my citrus trees is Alaskan fish fertilizer, kelp and molasses. Molasses=Sugar…duh😂. I have a Japanese Tricolor Adansonii coming. I will def add into my rotation. I supplement with silica mainly for mt Thais.

Yup! Nothing like a carbohydrate! Can you tell me more about your Silica supplementation? I want to experiment with this

@@prettyingreen I’ve changed my watering routine to using 1/4 strength fertilizer every water and basically treating my plants as semi hydro. In my nutrient solution (rotate Foliage Pro and A+B nutrient), I add liquid silica (Bloomcity). I use 1ml/liter and add it to my water (rain) the night before I water. Then the nutrients/fertilizer day of. I’ve also began experimenting with adding beneficials bacteria and fungus, so adjust my ph down to 6 (rain water usually tests out in 7 range). I can tell the silica is having a positive impact. When touching the leaves on thinner plants like my adansonii and Obliqua, they feel tougher and thicker. They have also sized up tremendously. Adansonii crossing 9” and my Deliciosa pushed out a 30”. I don’t generally use grow lights, so I’m impressed this is ambient house light in the winter of the PNW. I am blessed with lots of large windows on 3 sides (W/N/E) Can’t definitively report yet on the impact of the beneficials. I’m using clear pots, so I can see them going in my soilless media. I “feel” like they are having some positive impact, at least on my propagations and repots, as the root systems have gone bananas, but this could also be the result of my upgraded watering routine

@@richardr5878 Damn, I've heard of liquid silica being helpful in keeping the variegated parts of the leaves, but I've never read any in-depth experience on using it. Thank you!!

Do you think silica can help prevent leaf browning? Or latex foliar spray?

What is the long-term experience with adding sugar to your plants? Do they live longer, produce green leaves again or do the white leaves die at some point?

If you was water propagating an monstera albo, would it help to add a little sugar to the water the help the cutting during this process?

That’s a good question! I would probably avoid it because it would encourage yeast and bacteria to develop in the water

Is there a such thing as too much sun for these guys? For example, could I keep it in a small outdoor greenhouse in the summer (clear glass, humidity maintained, but bright sun)? Or does drenching it only apply with grow lights where the wattage/light exposure is more controlled? Thanks!

Fascinating. I have a Monstera Standleyana that decided to go full moon on me, Over the last few month it completely stopped growing any green in the foliage. The stem has only a thin wispy line of very light green on it, and I don't want to loose it... You say you have 0.5gal nutrient water where you add sugar to... What do you mean with nutrient water?
@prettyingreen
@prettyingreen Жыл бұрын
I can’t tell you how many times this has happened to me on my Standleyana 😭 When I say add the sugar with nutrient water-that’s assuming it’s in a soil-less media that contains no nutrients, so you’d be feed nutrients plus sugar at each watering. If the media has nutrients, just add sugar into your water. Hope this makes sense 😄
@charliebrown9188
@charliebrown9188 Жыл бұрын
@@prettyingreen It kinda did, thanks a million my friend. And here is what I have done: I keep several aquariums, when I change the water it goes on my enormous plant collection, and when it came to water my standleyana, which is planted in soil, I added a little bit of sugar. At this stage I feel that I have already other cuttings on the go, if this one perishes, I'll be sorry, but its a learning curve, and a full moon plant wont live long anyway... So if you feel like there is more that I need to know, I'd be very appreciative of the hints, if not ill learn on the go. I'm also thinking that I will have to skip the sugar at times to avoid a massive sugar build up however little I put in... I shall see how it goes.

On my Adonsonii Albo, the leaves are mostly green, but the white part (about 10%) on each new leaf is crispy brown as it unfurls, so most of the leaves have a blank area where the white was supposed to be. Help?
@prettyingreen
@prettyingreen 6 ай бұрын
This used to happen to me ALL THE TIME on my Albo Adansonii!!!! It would drive me crazy. It’s usually a humidity thing/water on the leaves. Try for 55-65% if you can. Too high and they’ll blacken, too low and it’ll get brown and crispy

If i use your tips with the sugar for a adult plant in the european winter, can it helps, for a alternative for photosynthese, for normal variegated monstera. I use a grow light too, but i if helps with molasses or sugar solution for more grow, it is a game changer. :-)

@@prettyingreen Hello again. :-) I write in another video, that i want to try normal led. What should i say? It works better than my strongest Sansi 36 Watt bulb. I buyed bulbs with 18 Watt. Six Bulbs Set under 20 Euro. I think it is 22 Dollar. My two white monsteras, had huge brown spots. One of them sitting on the window and get the led light too. The plant choose the led light, holy moly. Now i have the power to user carbs for the plant. I buy a carb fertilizer. It is for special plants, but i have hope. YOU gave me hope to try it on a regular basis. Ok, perhaps not weekly, but perhaps it works well. I fight for the life of my plants, with your videos. 🙂

The newest leaf on my albo won’t harden… it’s been limp and light green for more than two weeks, the stem has gotten taller but the leaf is weak and the same color as it was when it unfurled :\ the rest of the leaves look great though. Ever had that happen on an albo or any other plant? Lol
@prettyingreen
@prettyingreen 2 жыл бұрын
Give it longer than 2 weeks! Sometimes it will take up to 4-6 weeks. But sometimes leaves are weird, and just unfurl oddly. This has happened to me maybe 5% of the time (usually from lower humidity). If this is the case, just wait for the next leaf to come out!
