You are the best - we’ve been in our house 6 years now and I was about ready to just drain the pool and get rid of it those first few summers until I found Swim University. You make things concise and easy to understand, it’s so nice! It gets confusing when chemicals have so many different names, I love how you had a bag of stabilizer in the video when you talked about CYA - its little things like that that help so much!

My issue was that I just forgot to add baking soda for months and my alkalinity was way too low, after I did that, 2 days later it was crystal clear again

Ive found a cya level of 60 is the best during summer as it drops to 40-50 then re up to 60. People say cya only drops due to draining. I highly disagree. Unless 50 plus pools all have leaks lmao cya definitely goes down. Only in the winter time I see it stable. Tabs will help keep it stable in the summer but even then it drops.

How come you find 60 optimal? Do you have a swg? I do and find 30 is enough. How high do you keep your free chlorine level? As a rule of thumb it should be at least 7.5% of the CYA so in your case around 4. Which is i.m.o. a high level for equipment and swimmers. With cya at 30 you only need a free chlorine level around 2 and still loose only 2% of free chlorine per hour. My swg runs about 6 hours per day in summertime (water temp 30 degrees celsius) and about 3 hours in wintertime (around 15 degrees). Now I am curious hearing your experience. I do have to add CYA about twice per year as it does go down. I am not using tablets.

That's weird. I have my CYA at 40 with a swg and it just stays there. How are you testing for CYA?

Interesting. What kind of climate are you in?

My sand filter shows 40-45 psi pressure on a 8ft (45000) pool, after I back wash it it goes down to 30-35, is this too high?
