WHY IS MY SPARK PLUG AND IGNITION COIL COVERED IN ENGINE OIL.

In this video I explain why your spark plug and ignition coil is covered in engine oil. When the spark plug and ignition coil is soaked in oil this will cause hard start, no start, poor engine performance, engine misfire, poor gas mileag and check engine light.

good info about finding oil on spark plugs top or bottom side thanks. Wish I could find a trustworthy and affordable auto repair shop. DIY till the wheels and engine lock up and fall off. Cars and trucks today are bloated with tech and cheap crap with high price tags. Also what do you drive or like to work on? and whats some issues you face in your line of work with some cars and trucks.

Hello, thanks so much for the video. I was changing my spark plugs and found the problem you described. So you are saying that, the most likely cause is the spark plug seal. Some people that the valve gasket could be the reason. So either one of them could be the reason. Or both of them could be the reason. Is that correct?

It's both. When you buy the valve cover kit it will come with spark plug tube seals.

It could be one of a few things. Not necessarily this. In my case, the rocker cover was loose, probably from the factory, letting a little oil through the seals into the SP well. All it needed was tightened.

In case this helps anybody.. I was getting a misfire on cold starts, car sitting for 10 min or so.. turns out it was a loose valve cover. I torqued it down to spec all was fine then issue showed up 2 months later. Tightened her up likely above spec and all is good. Maybe it was a out of spec gasket idk.

So I have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. Cylinder is throwing a misfire code. I go to check it out, and discovered exactly what you described. NOW my question is, is it more or less concerning that only one coil and spark plug well is oily?

Working on a 2017 Porsche Cayenne S V6 3.6L twin turbo, appears to have small leaks around the valve covers. Two questions for you it appears I have two sensors on the end of each valve cover. Not sure what they are. Second question once I get down to get in the valve covers off, is the orange RTV really necessary with the new gaskets.?? Thank you

Exactly the problem i have.. mechanic did ever bother to look further or run and compression tests etc and just said you need a new engine :(... mine is a 1.8 2009 ford focus petrol. hoping to go it fixes it. Question, what it 1 plug well is dry but 3 have oil in ? could that still be the seal or its it somthing worse ?

Gmc, Ford, dodge (perhaps others) have similar designs. I have a GMC Acadia that uses that longer coil pack. no messing around with all the long spark plug wires. pretty simple really. Its the removing all the intakes and what not that is a pain to work with.

That’s not necessarily true, in most cases, it’s the spark plug tube itself, and not exactly the tube seal, because oil doesn’t rise that high in the valve cover, you would have to pull the spark plug tube and reseal it.

That's not necessarily true either. The oil doesn't get "high" but between the pressure and the splash it can sneak past the valve cover spark plug seal if its crack/worn out. I see this all the time.

i removed the spark plug and some oil got into the cylinder im not sure how much.....is this going to effect anything?

It won't cause damage, if you are really worried - put a narrow tube in the hole and suck out the oil that got in there

@@nyflo718 If there is more than a tablespoon of oil - extract it out. If it's less, leave it, the oil will burn off once the car runs for a couple of mins. Hope it helps, good luck.

I loosely cover the plug holes with a paper towel (with a little weight to hold it down and turned the engine over to have the pressure blow it out. Works like a charm.
