Why is Riyaa very subtle and dangerous | Faris Al Hammadi

Riyaa - showing off your acts of worship. Why is it a challenge and very dangerous. Always push it away and remind yourself that what you're doing is for the sake of Allah.
May Allah protect us from Riyaa.

We should beware of show-off (Riya') and polytheism in general.

There are many and strong motives for Riya’, so it is possible that a Muslim commits Riya’ without being aware that he is doing so. Therefore, the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) warned Muslims against it, out of perfect compassion for them and concern for their best interests.

The Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: ''The thing that I fear most for you is minor polytheism.'' When asked what it was, he said: ''Riyā’." [Hadith: Ahmad]

Protection from Riya' when you give da'wah is for you to realize that you can only do da'wah because Allah allows you to do da'wah, without Allah's permission you cannot do da'wah. Allah don't need you, if you don't want to give da'wah then Allah can choose somebody else who is better than you. You need to realize that this is an honour, to give da'wah is a big responsibility that not every Muslim are qualified to do it. Humble yourself to Allah and keep remembering that the knowledge that is given to you is from Allah. You're just a slave of Allah, you are nothing without Allah.

The way to purify your intentions is to HATE the praise of human, you need to realize that humans are not qualified to praise you, humans don't know how much you have struggle but Allah knows everything about your struggle, only Allah can reward you for your good deeds with the best eternal reward. And this is as the hadith say that when you see those who praise others, throw dust upon their faces(because those people can cause Riya' to those whom they've praised).

It is hard especially if you have used praise to compensate for low self-esteem. What I do to help me is to humble myself as much and as often as possible. When I look at a homeless person or handicap person, I say to myself I am below them. I daily look at soil, sand or dirt to remember that that is the place I will go to after I'm dead. Remember death, it humbles you.

Can you do something for the sake of Allah and show maybe a certificate of completion to someone important in your life as you’re proud of what you have done and want to show them? Is that Riya?
