The fairy godmother sings holding out for a hero about charming, in a "he's everything you've ever wanted sort of way" The dramatic irony being that in reality she is "holding out for a hero" as in waiting for shrek. I half expect that the scene was written to match the song rather than the other way around I think it's a clean toilet seat situation; the bits that actually make it work are not the bits most people immediately remember but if they arent there (i.e. every other dreamworks film you listed) the whole thing is hollow.

I'm SO glad I got to see the OG edit of this, it totes was a substitute for not just Shrek™2, but the whole franchise condensed into 15 mins. You know just before I saw it, I was about to buy the movie a third time, thus saving Dreamworks from bankrupcy, but your comprehensive guide to Shrek™ sated my appetite.
