@MonkeyMagick6 жыл бұрын
I think that longer lines are seen less because it’s harder to do more tricks well in a line. For example, if it takes 5 attempts to do something well then a 2 trick combo might take up to 25 attempts, which is acceptable’ but 3 takes 75 and 4 takes 325 etc... I know this is not the best example but I think it illustrates the point. This is an issue when you only have a limited opportunity when filming.

Parks vs Street in videos? I think it's because parks are more thought of as "practice" while street skating is like the real game. To make a football analogy (Fly Eagles Fly!), great plays from the preseason don't make it into highlight reels once the regular season starts. Same with spring training. They are for practice, just like skateparks.

wakeskating is rad! especially winch wakeskating. the element of you being on water does hold you back from quickly getting up right away and trying again, but I'd like to point out that the same goes for surfing. It takes you just about the same amount of time to get another pull on a wakeskate as it does swimming back to the break and waiting for another set. This isn't what's holding wakeskating back.
@kanescrimes48486 жыл бұрын
...Plus you have to have a boat...a vehicle to haul it, or a place to dock, enough good weather throughout the year to help make it all worth the hassle, money for gas for the boat, someone to drive the boat(there's winch options but that opens up a whole other can of worms as you can probably imagine) The list probably goes on too. It's thing's like this that hinder many people ability to snowboard enough to get good.
@daisyshinyweather6 жыл бұрын
I also think that street skating is more promoted as it tents to wear your gear faster: from wheels to your clothes. That is beneficial for a seller who is trying to make you replace your stuff as frequent as possible.

I got to skate Powell's Bones Brigade HQ (now Skate One?) back in '91, right after they built the bowl and mini ramp. It was completely out of this world coming from western KS (and I still have the helmet I accidentally stole from them, lol). Back then, parks weren't everywhere you looked, BBHQ was the first and only non-DIY park I've ever been to. You only seemed to find decent parks in metro areas, so for some of us, having ideal terrain was completely alien. We only had real, raw, often barely skateable street to skate. Parks have a definite place, but street is the real deal.

The thing is that back in the early 90’s, there weren’t many skateparks and so skaters had no choice but to skate the streets. I’ve talked to older skaters and they said that if they had access to the skateparks around nowadays, they’d for sure have skated the skateparks. Also i’ve seen pros from the 90’s skating nowadays. And they skate skateparks. At the end of the day, skateboard purists just wanna skate. They’re not necessarily looking to destroy public property and i think that kind of separates the men from the boys. Cuz boys are looking to destroy property and start fires and anarchy!!! and all that bs. Real skaters just wanna skate and roll away from tricks. Whether it’s at a skatepark or in the streets is not make or break for them.

Could you do a video on supreme
@TheGhostOfFredZeppelin6 жыл бұрын
Before I watch the video, to me it's at least the fact that skateboarding sprouted from the streets. Skating the things that were just there, not meant to be skated and not nearly as perfect as all these concrete parks built with skateboarding as it's sole purpose. It's fun to skate them and they are in some cases really fucking good but if you are filming a trick, the skatepark makes the footage lose its charm. If you take something that is from the streets and built around the streets and it's urban environment, and then take it all away you kind of take away a part of the skateboarding itself even though the tricks are still there. A metaphor, although maybe a bad one is to compare running marathons in rough terrain to running a marathon on a track that just goes around in circles, it's kind of the same but not really.
@aidancarlisle62376 жыл бұрын
Thanks RadRat! I’ve been hoping you’d make a video on this. I was also wondering, why aren’t powerslides as big in street as they are in longboarding? Thanks! Love your videos!
@LeatherCladVegan6 жыл бұрын
Because they're just a bit 'naff' (if you know what that word means) on a regular skateboard, whereas on a longboard, it's one of the very few things/'tricks' you can do. Power slides were big back in the 70s and 80s, when skating was more like 'surfing on the street', but with the design of the regular skateboard changing to allow for far greater versatility towards the end of the 80s and into the 90s, it would just seem kinda silly to flat-spot your wheels for something that, IMO, is hardly a trick at all on a regular skateboard. Similar thing with wallrides; although people still do them occasionally nowadays, they were huge back in the 80s, because the kinds of tricks you could do on a board back then was very limited. Longboarding remains much more like 'surfing on the street', so it makes sense that you would see more power-slides on them.

Nope. People say "lean back" before popping is the trick, but that's not exactly right. I think having ~90% on your weight on your back foot is more accurate. This helps ensure the board pops, flips, and rotates in front of you rather than under or behind (aka feet on nose). Hope this helps
