My wife and I went to Thailand and yes their food is amazing. I put on weight after returning from Thailand. Didn't even have to eat at fancy restaurants... the street food was also good and the level of hygiene quite high I must say.

Great video Drew. Quick note, Thai food is a balance of sweet, sour, salty and spicy (not bitter). Some foods have elements of bitter but it is not one of the core flavours.

Glad to see that you like green curry. I never found it appealing and my Thai friends tell me it's more popular with farangs (I can't back that up other than hearsay). Perhaps it's due to the sweetness and I'm not a big fan of sweet food.

All Thai curries remind me of a free meal for the guest provided by host in the merit event in thai temple/monastery or street food. Urban people rarely cook curry at home , may be just for the up country folks where they have lot of time. For the taste ,it's not so sweet actually but creamy from the coconut milk which I don't like. There's also the thai curry type without coconut milk. It's called "Kaeng Pah".

Come to Malaysia, typically Malaysia's food will get all your senses exploded! It has the combination of sour, spicy, salty, bitter, sweet and umami. If you come to Malaysia, have a taste on masak lemak tempoyak patin or asam pedas Melaka.

Sam Spade On contrary from your believe, A lot of Burma food recipes take on Thai food and Burmese vendors or chefs used to work here in Thailand as kitchens'helpers .Burmese call Thai "yodia" shorten from Ayuttaya.Whenever you see this yodia on any label that's mean that menu came from /adapted from Thai recipe. Only the North region that we have some similar menus because in the old days many hundred years ago that land Lanna Siam and Burma were on the same land same ethnic people .Wars and battles divide us .When England came and colonized Burma they divided the land and our people permanently.

Ginger affects taste, not color. Turmeric which affects color (and also taste)

Ginger isn't common in Thai curries, but galangal is. Westerners seem to be confused between these 2 herbs.

Yes, very true many often confuse ginger and galangal due to their similarities in their physical appearances. And most Thai foods use galangal. Only food I know of that contain ginger is "Pad Khing"
