You can also get it from calculus/physics. If you model a position function Ax^2+Bx+C the velocity function (derivative of position) is 2Ax+B. The vertex of the position function, the maximum altitude of a projectile, is where the velocity function is equal to 0. If 2Ax+B=0, x=-B/2A.

Yep, there are several different ways to prove it. This way assumes no calculus background.

bruv u have only 300 subs and u have just given me the proof which top channels have failed to give. i always had a question in those proofs but right now everything is straightforward. i didnt even see it cause i was so manipulated. this proof is insane. (yes ik im overreacting but no one has ever given me a better derivation of this)

It’s actually The sum of roots/2=Axis of symmetry. -b/a is the sum of roots and when it’s divided by 2, u get -b/2a. This video actually explain something I already knew but couldn’t figure it out:(

Wait, I don't understand. At 6:04 , why are we adding zero to -b/a? Aren't we supposed to subtract them?
@rademakermath27483 жыл бұрын
You need to find the halfway point between the two x-intercepts, 0 and -B/A. To find the halfway point between any two values, you add them together and divide by 2.

Rademaker Math I give you my mom and all of her entirety in return for making this video. Although you have only very little views now that you are appreciated. Radeamaker I love you cutie.

There are multiple proofs for this. Maybe your teacher was looking for a different one.
@microwaveboi84 жыл бұрын
@@rademakermath2748 well her question was “prove why -b/2a is the equation to find the axis of symmetry or something” and I pretty much did identical to this because I thought it made sense and she said it was wrong, and that you can’t just get rid of “c”. Her answer was a lot more complicated than this one.
@ak-ge4qc4 жыл бұрын
@@microwaveboi8 We're just substituting c for 0, because the value for c does not change the horizontal position of the axis. I think this proof is a lot more intuitive than any other.
