A word about TikTok - a friend of mine is Hong Kong Chinese Heritage. She told me recently that TikTok in China is totally different to the one we see (not me!) in The West. In China its content is for EDUCATIONAL purposes. In the West it's for ENTERATINMENT -or as I think of it - wasting time looking at trivial crap ! Another example of China outwitting the West ?

"Tackling disinformation and misinformation will be an integral element of the BBC News Urdu content". I wonder whether whoever released that press statement did it with a straight face and, the question has to be asked, why would the BBC make such an exception for the its Urdu content? The BBC can reach vast numbers of people who speak Urdu, and probably many of those only Urdu, in the UK, by the way. The BBC are far more concerned to get their message across to them, particularly in the run-up to an election, than they are to anyone living in Pakistan, or anywhere else where Urdu is spoken. Anyway, Tick Tock is run by the Communist Party of China and we should know how they treat people of the same religion as the majority of Urdu speakers over there. Ever heard of the Uyghurs? I reckon CJ, who usually does a brilliant job and to whom I am grateful for giving me the confidence to cancel my TV licence quite some time ago now, may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick here.

In Kosovo the BBC has a radio station, no adverts. It plays a mixture of western and Kosovan/Albanian music. Now if you look on the BBC webpages, you will see that the BBC has 128 radio stations around the world. Just type in BBC FM Stations Around the World into google. These are supposedly for the BBC world service, but they are FM stations which means the BBC has paid money for the FM frequency and obviously has broadcast equipment in each of those 128 countries. As I said before, the radio station in Kosov plays a mixture of western and local music, it doesn't as far as I know do any world service programs (it is in Albanian, so it may) and I suspect that this is the same for all the 128 BBC radio stations around the world. Either way, it must cost a fortune for this and what for?

I cancelled my tv licence at the end of December, only I was bit slow as the direct debit for January had been pending payment. I put the BBC news channel on as I'm paid for the month of January, this was 7:30 am the same news was repeated through out the day, the only change was the presenters reading the same news. I often think now when the news presenter say's " This is BBC news in the UK and around the world"!! Do the people around the world have to pay a tv licence ? I don't think so. Anyway slightly apprehensive at the moment what I've done but I'm happy I have as this money will go to help with my cost of living and fuel bills.

I wanted to defend the organisation that re-educated me about my country, when I returned from years of military service abroad. I no longer want to do this, because I want to see the BBC privatised. A couple of years ago I stopped paying the television tax because, thanks to you, I now know that I don't need to, provided I do not watch programmes as they are broadcasted, on line or on air, and provided I do not watch using the BBC iPlayer. I wish that I could do more. I really have had it up to the back teeth of them, and I believe that other channels maintain their underhand stance because the BBC dominates the market; it is an unnatural influence, and it must stop.

Not a hard question to answer. BBC is the primary overseas propaganda 😮arm of the British Government, and Urdu is the national language of Pakistan, a nuclear power with over 3 times the population of UK. It is a strategically important nation. So although I consider British and Western foreign policy largely hypocritical, I can certainly understand why the BBC would be investing in Urdu Tik Tok outreach. Whether that money would be better spent elsewhere is a different debate.

The BBC has FM radio stations in about 128 countries. To do this is must have a licensed frequency in each country which will cost them a fair amount and the broadcasting equipment in each country. I can tell you for one that they have a radio station in Kosovo and it plays a mixture of western and local music and has DJs....with no adverts. So not only do they need to pay for the frequency licence, broadcast equipment but also the DJs. On top of that, they will need to be a company in each of these countries.

What part is funded? How much? Why should an older person on a basic state pension be expected in any way to fund a UK perspective on voting in Pakistan? The government believes that the transfer of funding to the licence fee will increase the BBC’s ability to increase scope for sensible efficiencies and economies, and avoid duplication across the whole of the BBC family. It will also help create a more sustainable future for the World Service. This will also benefit licence fee payers, who will continue to have access to the World Service. Why this is funded by licence payers, whilst putting out a view that is a uk government one, is it to give it more credibility ?

The having several stories recently about BBC news having to tighten their belts. I think you may have found a few areas where they can save some money, although of course, they won't. What will happen is that the main BBC news TV service, funded by the licence payer, will be cut and these and chiliary frippers will still get their funding.

1) The BBC (and it's staff) should be neutral in politics. 2) It should be for British people and the only languages it should use is English, Welsh and Gaelic. 3) Not a single thing should be made for foreigners. 4) The licence fee should be much cheaper. 5) The BBC should only employ British people only. 6) Staff wages should be cut and capped. 7) TV shows should be better and contain no woke issues or identity politics. 8) The BBC should stop showing so many repeats. 9) The BBC should not have any staff positions for diversity and it should stop being ageist and anti white/UK. 10) The BBC should stop giving out fake news.

Can’t believe they’re getting into bed with Tik Tok ie the Chinese. After the pain the Chinese inflicted on the world with the pandemic it just amazes me we even interact with them. Roll on subscription time, then the mugs who pay might think again.

Well the BBC is a government organisation and our governments are by tradition and in their inherent structure always far more concerned with what is happening overseas than with anything going on at home. The Empire may have gone but the institutions are still are mainly geared to running it but now in a virtual virtue seeking sense. Awards of status in our society are still a nominal rank in this Empire which is rather telling.
