I’ll forever stand by that B58 engine, I loved my manual M140i more than my M3 / M4 comp. That’s all you need is a little suspension set up, LSD and it’s the ultimate daily driver. Great to see the channel doing so well boys! I really mean that 🤜🏼

I had an M140i for 4 years, it was a great daily, and fast in a straight line (mine was 455bhp/634nm). The 'trouble' with them, is that I fear they will end up like the Impreza Sti's did, ie just depreciate to a point every chav on every council estate has one, modified to the max, and written off. So while standard cars will be worth good money in 15 years or so (as Impreza's are starting to be now), unfortunately standard ones will be so rare, and modified thrashed examples will still be worthless. I went to a slightly older car, and got an OG M2. It is standard, so not as fast in a straight line as my old tuned M140i, but would leave my old car as a tiny speck in it's mirror on a twisty b road, and that sort of driving is where I think the real fun happens. Anyone can mash a throttle in a straight line, but no matter how much power your engine makes, straight line acceleration quickly gets boring, and the real joy is in twisty, flowing, undulating corners. And that is something the M140ui doesn't do very well, no matter how many mods you do to it, because the chassis is still always going to be the same as any other 1 series of the same era.

I've had mine for 3 years and I'm still smiling. My first mods was sorting out the handling and that included MP LSD but it was overpriced, harder to maintain, the clutches wore out in a year so I had to rebuild it, all I really gained was a little bit more grip coming out of a corner sliding coming out of an exit and some doughnuts and when I put my foot down in a straight line the car feels slower. Reinstalled my open diff and I actually prefer it.
@accelerateyoutube2 ай бұрын
@Yhyujss now that's interesting! First of all, that LSD experience sounds expensive! Second of all, I appreciate the feedback, it's interesting to hear from someone who has genuinely experienced one with an open diff & LSD. The open diff was certainly fun! Thank you for watching! - Drew
@SamFullickАй бұрын
Interesting point of view, first time I've heard someone say that they didn't enjoy the M Perf LSD. I see where you are coming from in a sense of real world use. My manual m140i is currently completely stock, and I wouldn't say it drives badly at all coming from an OG M2 prior to this, you can still get a slide on exiting a corner in the dry, and for the UK roads you have to be pushing it very hard before you even start to notice that it's less capable than it's full fat M counterparts. I do still plan on installng an LSD in my 140i as I want to turn it into a weekend car/ track tool for the summer. I have a set of Bistein B16's and upgraded brake components in the shed ready to go. But now i've read about your experience I'm steering towards wavetrac rather than the M perf.
@YhyujssАй бұрын
@ like you said you only gonna feel it right at the top end when you really pushing it The problem is that it still feels detached it doesn’t feel planted the front end starts to feel light. For me putting a LSD in the car was a waste of money because the car from factory is a 118i All of its suspensions parts are connected by bushings to the subframe And chassis unlike a m car Where the parts are bolted directly to the chassis. I’ve spent thousands on mine on the suspension to the LSD and various other handling mods i’ll tell you the truth I regret it. But It’s good for what it is value for money and a great daily. My next car i think is going to be a rs3 or m2.

@@YhyujssI see your point, thanks for sharing. It’s easy to get carried away trying to make the car something that it simply isn’t. I’m starting with a fresh slate the car only cost me 13 grand, so I think my best bet is to upgrade a few bits which improve the cars pitfalls, without getting into a hole of trying to make it a race car
@YhyujssАй бұрын
@@SamFullick you see a lot of KZbin videos doing exactly that tuning the cars and rebuilding it to 800 and 900 hp and then it’s undrivable it just becomes a hot rod yeah just maybe a little remap stage 1 and some handling mods and it’s fantastic little thing for what it is.

Always makes me laugh when comments like yours are posted. If you're broke, you're hardly going to be able to run one of these, are you? As for taking an RS3 or A45s over this, that's your choice, but don't be a pr1ck about it. I've owned an RS3 prior to my M140i and, for me, the BMW is the superior car. For one, the power is going to the correct wheels, the B58 is way more reliable and potent across the rev range, the mpg is 50+ when you need it, and the ZF8 gearbox is much better than the DSG. The general issue with M140s is that people buy them, approach driving it like they would a 4wd or FWD car, crash it and then blame the car. It is hilarious as says more about their talent than it does about the car. Rwd cars aren't for kids.
