Really helpful, only just realised my grip was wrong after 20 years of playing, surprised by the difference it made! Also nice dig to the cricketers!! 🤣

I keep hooking my iron shots so far left when trying to work at the range and the first grip and you demonstrating what happens is exactly how I held the club, and it’s exactly how your first shot went! This video is so helpful and can’t wait to try work on how I’m gripping the club

You explained the trail hand better than in other videos I've watched. I recently went for a fitting and was advised my left hand was in a good neutral but my right was strong, so your timing is good :)

For me is it also very important to keep the thumb "long". If I don't do that, I get sharp pain in the thumb and can't play anymore. Tended to hook the ball the last two days with a closed face, will check my grip with that video, could well be a too strong grip with my left hand (playing lefty).

After watching this today I went outside and hit some plastic training balls in my yard, and was amazed how straight they all went. Looking forward to trying real balls on a real course. Does this grip change work with woods?

Excellent video, I’m too strong grip so hook city. You in consultation with my coach have”straightened me out”. Trying to go more down the line and is getting me another 5-10yds. Happy days. Great explanation Andy.

For a while I was using a baseball grip for driver and interlock for for my irons as I saw results that way, thankfully now interlocked all the way through my clubs. Good video. 👍

Great video again Confirms my grip is weird. One knuckle showing on both hands. Basically the reverse of the butterfly grip for the chipping video

Creates very limited flexibility in the hands that buddy. Get it sorted
@VoodooZ3 жыл бұрын
I find the relation between each hand has a big role to play as I still battle with a severely closed club face at impact because one hand gets too weak and thus gets "bullied" by other hand. Especially once I relax my grip a bit... So many change of grips in last few years... Went from baseball to interlocked too which wasn't easy.

Massive Thank You Mr Carter for braving the cold & making me see that my grip is wrong will be addressing the problem in couple of weeks when I'm off work. I'm left handed & most of my drives go left after going straight for about 100yrds & every now & again my irons finish left of the green I'll be working on a more netural grip soon 🏌♂️⛳🥶

Excellent video as always Andy. Grip isn’t something I’ve ever thought about apart from when I am using my driver. There’s always something to tweak or think about in golf 👍🏻
@nickprice1st3 жыл бұрын
Yes thanks for this ….it’s always so good to go back to basics . Something I have noticed recently with my own grip is simply to relax and not tense up and grip the club till the whites on my knuckles show . Also I had the tendency to overthink the swing too much ,something that has come from watching way too many coaching videos and trying to copy them. I think it’s important to find a coach that you can relate to and stick with for tips and advice .I find your instructions clear and simple to follow so thanks .

My pleasure, thanks for watching Nick and. Hope they help but you’re also right in what you say- don’t get too consumed with tips, especially if they’re irrelevant

Great tip Andy, good review to know what you're doing with your grip and how it affects the ball flight. Quick question, sort of related to gripping as part of set-up. Bryson released a 2-part series on how he swings the club, and he was talking about how he rotates the upper part of his left arm in, and rotates his forearm/wrist out. Then for his right arm it's opposite, upper bit rotates externally, lower bit internally. I'm wondering if there is a right way to do this (the way Bryson is doing it?), and what how playing around with the rotation affects the ball flight? I'm tempted to try it out but am afraid it would mess up my swing royally ... may be someone with a more consistent swing such as your fine self would be able to enlighten us? 😁

I've been working with my pro on weakening my grip to get rid of that pull left but I've noticed that I've been concentrating on the right hand only, and not weakening the left hand as well, which can cause the ball to still go left. Have to remember to adjust both hands!
@andycartergolf3 жыл бұрын
Yes work towards neutral on both hands. But your pro can advise you
@stuartwood-edens75573 жыл бұрын
Brilliant information, thanks Andy! One question which I struggle with is, if the total amount of pressure on the grip from both hands is 100%, what % should each hand have? Is it equal? Is it more on the top hand (leading hand) or more on the bottom hand (trailing hand)?
@andycartergolf3 жыл бұрын
Equal for sure, both hands will have firm control of the club

How tightly to grip the club? I seem to get better results when I loosen my grip significantly, although it doesn't seem like the correct thing to do. Thanks for the videos!
@WW-jf2me3 жыл бұрын
my trainer told me same stregth i use in a handshake. enough to get a good controll but not so much as it feels like squeshing. when i want the ball to get those extra yards i ahve the tendancy to grip harder which makes the ball often go shorter cause i early realease cause of the hands being to strong. golf wing is a whip not a hammer :)

If you wear a glove u can put dots on the two knuckles you want to see, as a reminder until it becomes natural.
