Great video and analysis of the Lange 1, it's actually one of my favourite watches! Diego OG we’ll see once they release a steel sport; the idea has already become fairly divisive I think. Regardless though it seems to be happening on the heels of the SeaQ so we will see what happens. Dress watch certainly aren’t dead but in an era of technology and practicality they also are being adopted on mass like tool watches (the ultimate tool watch being the Apple Watch so a watch that’s both mini computer and telephone all on your wrist). Funny thing is though that the most successful watches I would argue are the ones presently that combine function with form, or tool watch with beauty; see two tone Sea Dweller. Look forward to more on the Glashutte brands as GO and Lange I agree are loved so much more than not.

Timothy Glynn and that’s the question; the GO SeaQ will be running $10k as I understand and we’ll all see how that performs. The previous Sport Evolution line did not do well but I’d wager that the SeaQ will attract the vintage look crowd they’re pandering to. Thinking about it I’d say competing more inline but still under cutting the VC Overseas would position them above the $10k submariner crowd and attract the Trinity alternative crowd while enabling them to maintain quality.

First rule of photography also I understand is the the placement or positioning of the product or subject matter into thirds as well - not that I have ever done this, but I talk with my team & I am always interesting in learning these things. I bought my first A Lange & Sohne at dinner they invited me to, feeling the weight of pressure to join the club, just the 1815 model (the cheapest in the range) after that they kept sending me books, gift & gave me the whole VIP Experience. I have a BIG wrist 7.5", so I need to be wearing a statment piece when doing business, so I have since purchased several models & the one things that appeals to me is the thing that most people dislike the most from this brand depending on the model - the LARGE NUMERALS.

Well, because I didn't want to have to keep resetting the moonphase. For me, everything on the watch has to be right. I can't just ignore the moonphase. The best two options for me are the non-moon phase version or the automatic version, but because I'm so used to seeing the layout of the manual wind version, I would have to go with that one. The automatic being opposite dial layout of the manual wind one just doesn't look right to me.

Fantastic! IDG, I haven’t seen all your videos but I’ve seen most and this is my favorite. To me it best embodies your good work so far. Now I see why you appreciated my comments to your Tudor Heritage Chrono S&G video and said I would like this upcoming video. I absolutely love it! I not only learned in greater detail about the rule of thirds I was also delighted when you unknowingly also touched on some of the very same points I had made in my Tudor comments, about perfection, imperfection and the difference between appreciation and personal preference. It’s nice when shared views emerge when one is also learning something. Mostly, I so enjoyed the breakdown of dial alignment and how each dial element individually occupies a third, or nearly so, of the dial space. Remarkable. I will be thinking about that for a while. In this video you’ve achieved your own element of balanced perfection. You’ve provided great information and perspective on history, design principles and touch on personal taste. How’s that for another rule of 3? Also, amidst all that great information I enjoyed the unintended irony when you correctly call the Lange 1 design timeless. It’s so appropriate yet can you imagine a world where it’s also complimentary to call a car “drive-less”? ;) Bravo! I will re-watch and enjoy this video each time. As always, keep the good work coming.

Mr Video man how do you mean you would not be interested in the Lange 1, Mr Video man the watch is absolutely beautiful , you need to find an Optician don't take that seriously I know we all have different taste , but I have looked at Audemars Piguet , Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, Rolex, iwc schaffhausen, Hublot , Montblanc some of these Brands are very nice indeed , but the Germans got it correct with Lange 1 respect in every aspect.

I appreciate your design critique, but for me the Lange 1 is a fail. When I look down at my watch I expect the hour and minute hands to be centrally located. Anything else and I have to recalibrate, if ever so briefly. I love ALS, but I would choose a Saxonia Thin or an 1815 over the Lange 1 all day.

Terrific presentation, this was nice to watch. I appreciate the esthetic composition and manufacturing excellence. But the sub dial for the time is less appealing to the reading glasses set.

"perfect" is so very subjective 😉 obviously! My "perfect" watch at the moment is a Tissot T touch, because of its functionality & style - great tho A Lange craftsmanship may be but it'd be as much use as the proverbial chocolate tea pot to me. Personally I think nature does the Golden Ratio so much better than man can, we should stick to symmetry. Excellent video as always, thank you 👍👍

Nature will always triumph in this department (and I feel that we shouldn't have to try and emulate it) Maybe that's why I prefer simplicity over complex watches? Thank you for the great comments as always, brother. Have a great weekend!

honestly, the layered date numbers annoy me. the watch is not perfect in my opinion

All good until you hear it costs 33000 euros lol. perfection comes at a cost.

Really enjoy your explanation but totally agree, I don't want one!!

No I don’t agree, I find the asymmetry of the design irritating, the waste of space and the smaller minute and hour hands fail to maximise legibility.
@ID-Guy5 жыл бұрын
I see where you're coming from. It doesn't make sense to not fill a dial with hands and numerals, but this approach is something unique. It's not my cup of tea either (but I enjoy learning a bit more everyday about the weird and wonderful world of watch design) Thanks for the comment, John (and for the coke can)

If I were to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a dress watch, it would be from Geneve..... Many offerings from Vacheron Constantin, Patek Philippe, and Jaeger LeCoultre are more pleasing to my eye. It’s interesting that you seem to like these yet complain about dial spacing from other Brand/Models. Thanks for the work you do and enjoy your weekend.

I should have mentioned the word "order" more in the video. Proportions of badly spaced dials and ill sized cases bother me the most. Since this watch manages to use the space in a different way (and somehow manages to pull it off) it gets a pass (Glashutte Original on the other hand...they need a bit of scrutiny) But I agree that there are far more pleasing watches out there (The Datograph and Saxonia are on the top of my Lange list) but in the swiss hemisphere...the opportunities are endless. Have a superb weekend too, brother!

Le Sentier, Jaeger LeCoultre is not based in Geneva but in the village Le Sentier in the Vallée de Joux.

@@georgebeckford728 Yes I realize.....I meant Geneve as Holy Trinity, except AP doesn't thrill me so I substituted JLC and should have said "Also".... great catch, thanks!

I would never buy a Lange, for that money I would buy Swiss... just because, but Lange is really special. edit: for fuck's sake, they make Patek look dated as hell, while still looking classic, they are awesome, but I would not buy one... don't know why.

For me, I can appreciate the rear of the watch, the face whilst you were able to apply the Fabinacci rule. Is incongruent. If you can appreciate this approach Look up Lorne at Marine Chronometer who makes the Offshore Professional using the Fabonacci rule. The result is far more appealing than this watch, well for me anyway. I own an Offshore Professional, Milgauss GV and amongst others a Seiko Samurai Save the Ocean graduated blue dial. 👍🏻 Good review and like you, not for me. 👌🏻

I will definitely look it up and thank you for the suggestion, Michael. I can appreciate the watch, but the Lange 1 is a design that isn't for me. Thanks for the great comment, man and have a superb weekend!
