I have read that blue has shorter wavelength and red has the longer wavelength so when the white light pass through the atmosphere all other colors get reflected and the blue doesn't and reaches our eyes.

I didn't feel i get enough of the explanation here. what about the other color bands then, where are they? why dont i see them in some way during the normal conditions in the sky too - why do i see only the blue color? had to cross-check other videos ...

Yes .. but why blue? Why not red? Why does light even have colour?
@Braykan101
@Braykan101 6 жыл бұрын
colour is just how we humans perceive different tones (we evolved to see colour, and dogs for example, see only black and white which is the most basic representation of nature). I guess that the colour of the sky depends on the type of matter and density of gasses in the atmosphere. If the mixture of those gasses had some different components, and it were a little bit more or less dense, the sky would have been some other colour. Like some other planets in our solar system. This is just me speculating, but it could be the answear.
@steveread3303
@steveread3303 6 жыл бұрын
Well that is interesting .. dogs see only black & white & people see shades of all colours! You are going to have to have to give me a few million years to get my brain around that one. You answered below that light is composed if all colours but how do we know that there are not any more? And I come back to the last part of my original question . . why does light even have colours?
@Braykan101
@Braykan101 6 жыл бұрын
Look, colour in the nature doesn't even exist. It's just how we see the reality. And when we say that light composes of ALL colours, we mean that in it you can find any shade you can think of. So there is an infinite number of colours just like numbers. Keep in mind that numbers are yet another concept we made up. As I said before, colours just like numbers don't actually exist, and there's an infinite number of them. It's a little tricky to understand, but just stay curious and keep learning about stuff. As you do, more and more things will be clearer and you will be able to say that you are smarter than a weak ago! :)

Because it has lowest wavelength.. I mean for our visible spectrum(ya violet indigo blue is the order.. But you get that) .. We cannot simply perceive below that so as the light slows down that's the limit.. May be more lower wavelength but you know human sucks so we can't see that..

Hot and clever. Great video. Have you tried agarose instead. And how can I use this model to demonstrate orange sky and also moon.
@patrickcampos5014
@patrickcampos5014 5 жыл бұрын
The orange sky follows the same idea. In the video, in the far side of the gelatine he said he was starting to see some yellow. That's because the more the light is slowed, the more it goes through the color spectrum. If his gelatine kept going a little farther, the light would start to look reddish, kinda like an actual rainbow. That happens when the sun is lower in the sky (at dusk) because light has more stuff to slow it down before it reaches surface, so it's slowed all the way to orange. When is Noon, the path through the atmosphere is shorter (because the Earth is round), so it stays in the blue part of the spectrum. I hope that helped a little :)

But doesn't it make more sense and less complicated to think that the OZONE layer which tends to have a pale blue color is being illuminated by the sun and, some of the blue light is being absorbed in that layer giving it a more blue color. Then as the angle of the sun traverses in it's orbit the blue gets deeper the less light there is. Also the reflection from the oceans bounces off like a mirror and give the whole planet a blue hue from space. isn't That why the sky is blue?
@Archiekunst
@Archiekunst 6 жыл бұрын
The blueness of the sky is because of Rayleigh scattering, not refraction as you mention here.

You said light goes from Blue to Yellow while slowing down. They why we can't see the green sky? Take a look at this : "Violet Indigo Blue Green Yellow Orange and Red". From Blue to Yellow we see every colour of the sky except green. While slowing down we see every colour of sky but not green. Why? Hope you understand what I am trying to say. English is not my first language. 😅

If he were rite the sky couldn't stay blue all day from sun rise to sun set. His earth is a CGI picture of a theory, and everything he says is text book theory written for the public schools. Unflavored gelatin is a good title for this video!

I don't think you have a good explanation. The reason is that the gasses in the sky SCATTER light. They tend to scatter blue light over red light- for complicated reasons. It's called Rayleigh scattering. Simply having a material which slows light (and, as a CONSEQUENCE "bends" it) is not enough. This is why Glass/water don't work and you had to use gell.
