me too - however, i only hated science at that point, because it could not answer the things i wanted in sufficient depth to fully grasp and understand the universe we live in - now however, i envy those going to school, as the amount of knowledge gathered since i was in school, is mind blogging. and in case i am 38, so was a long time ago. hence, science can now answer to the degree of understanding i want/need. Biggest issue i had in school, was the way it was taught, never taught to understand, just taught things to repeat, so i would sit there and say how is that, how does that happen, why does that happen, and as you can guess couldn't get an answer, so lost interest in it. And at risk of repeating, now they can fill in those blanks and explain things fully, like evolution, and my passion for learning is re-ignited.

In the fifth grade, I remember our teacher giving us a question that read, "What color is the sky?" I was a super nerd and loved reading. So, by the time I was in 4th grade, I was reading encyclopedias for fun, learning tidbits that I wouldn't really come across until HS. To shorten this story, I explained in detail similar to how Dr. Tyson described it about how the light from the Sun scatters in our atmosphere and the color that is reflected is what we see (much like how grass absorbs all the other colors that make up light and reflects green). Well, my teacher straight up gave me an F for the assignment!! 😡 I was so crushed because I knew I was right and when I went to talk to her about it, she just brushed it off. This was over 20 years ago, but it's great seeing videos like this on KZbin! Bill Nye, The Magic School Bus, Reading Rainbow, etc were among my favorite shows as a kid!! 😃

@polielie4 жыл бұрын
Tysons answer was almost true but not completely. The particle size does not match the blue light. The scattering happens more when the wavelenght of light is smaller. And to the power of 4. Indeed violet light is scattered more than blue. But there is so little violet in sun light the sky is seen blue.

How will you get teachers like him when there is a war on teaching facts or anything Science. I can’t think of a time in our history where Science has been considered not essential, political and a conspiracy. Scientific Theorems, Laws and known truths that have been around for decades are now fake news according to someone on Facebook, Twitter, TickTock, etc. Everyone is an expert now in field of Science and supposedly we have alternative facts. Yes you heard that right. Alternative facts said a former presidential spokesperson with a straight face. Books banned, Classes need approval personally by a governor with zero formal training in education. Neil D Tyson and people like him are rarely valued.
