Given that my colleagues in Japan have grave reservations with US military flights because of accidents as a result of underfunding in maintenance and the constant use of these aeroplanes, It surprises me that the Irish allow the risk of accidents. American media has been covering these specific problems and they have been highlighted by top military staff as well.. The issue raised in this video with surveillance in civil society has been discussed by Edward Snowden who was so shocked that he whistleblew on the USA surveillance state that is much wider than just a few activists.. Ireland should stand firm and reject all the side issues from having a military base at a time when the USA are projecting a hard military strategy into Europe against Russia, Muslim countries, Ukrainian separatists and left wing policies such as Social Democratic political ideals (ref Policies promoted by the Atlantic Alliance group) . And now we have Trump and his cabinet wanting to build physical walls everywhere as well! What could possibly go wrong?

@@deanbrickland well said. I cannot understand why anyone in the Irish government thought this would be a good thing for Ireland. Many a time I have been in Shannon airport and seeing US military walking around in uniform (which I thought they weren't allowed to do) and being Soo cross and more so when American tourist's are applauding them. I got abused by 2 Americans for not being thankful to the US soldiers as I/we as a country owe our freedom to the US. I mean that was news to me as I always thought I owed my freedom to the men and women who fought for Ireland. They also gave out to me for not standing to their attention which is kind of funny considering I'm in a wheelchair. I have also seen prisoners being escorted on and off a US military plane something again I thought wasn't allowed to happen. Seeing American soldiers in uniform in the airport makes my blood boil

It goes against the important principle of neutrality. When Ireland became independent from the UK she also strived to be independent of her foreign policy and therefor chose neutrality. As the USA is an important ally of the UK you might as well have British troops passing through the airport of Shannon.

@CianMcsweeney6 жыл бұрын
Marine Corps you have to understand the scenario from our position too, Ireland has always been a neutral country and always will be, we don't have any major external threats to our freedom, the US army landing here seriously undermines our neutral position and also makes us unintentionally sponsor any actions US troops commit.
@JUSTINMORAHAN6 жыл бұрын
Why should it be illegal to search another country's military stash when they land in Ireland?. You are not "fighting" for my freedom or in y name. Slogans like "Semper Fidelis" carry no weight in a discussion. Nor do shouts of "OOHRAH!" They only inflame tempers. I agree with Cian Mc sweeney.
@ocodeskamcdbsm5 жыл бұрын
Marine Corps: what BS. Firstly I/we do not owe our freedom to the US. We are a neutral country so allowing the US to land on our soil is both condoning and being complicent in their actions. After that, there were conditions attached to US soldiers while being in Shannon, ie: being in uniform outside of the aircraft which they ignore and shows they have no respect for our country they are also not allowed to transport any prisoners through Irish soil to which they have ignored also as on many occasions prisoners have been escorted on and off the plane.
