There is ways to increase the rate of construction, but we are not willing to do it.

LCS one of the biggest Boondoggle in the Century
@cmakeng11 ай бұрын
Because everybody else in the world are building ships with plenty of capability in a frigate-sized hull. We retired all our FFG-7s with no replacement and the LCS was such a miserable failure. Also the first time we're adapting a foreign design to save money instead of brand new like we always do.
@rgloria406 ай бұрын
Many of the FFG7 are dying off due to old age now....DDG operation will be a cost isssue.

The 57mm gun forward on the frigate seems very inadequate. Should be a minimum 105mm. I hope this frigate works out and is not another disappointment like the LCS'S and the Zumwalt destroyers.

Is it not possible, or are the Ticonderoga's too old and therefore too expensive to repair and upgrade just to help with the missile tube count? I imagine you can get a massive SPY-6 radar in the Ticonderoga....

1. The naval force is already shorthanded and that problem is not likely to get better any time soon. 2. Force growth will continue with DDG-51 and manning requirements will continue to grow. I suspect that is what is driving the CG-47 force reductions 3. If Conditioned Based Maintenance Plus (CBM+) is employed on the FFG-62 in Combat Systems Maintenance Central (Repair 8) then manning requirements can be held down with automation. Readiness rates will be increased. Multiple NECs can be held by Watch Quarter & Station Bill members due to automation of their maintenance tasks thus reducing crew size. 4. Maintenance by technicians that own their equipment is always maintained in a superior manner. 5. The last and most relevant observation is that . . . all the folks that think a ‘Blue/Gold crews for surface ships is going to work’ . . . are creating a world in their own image and understanding and they are not sub sailors. Surface sailors are NOT submarine sailors. The quality, training, and capability is very different not to mention the psychological qualifications before they can even begin the training to spend time in a tube underwater for extended periods . . . particularly with the population available today. We are having a hard time finding enough High School graduates to train for the fleet today . . . so a plan that requires lots of submarine standard qualified people will not work.

We have hundreds of billions to give to Ukraine but not enough to build new ships for the US navy. Sad
@abraham21726 ай бұрын
Stopping your most vicious and aggressive enemy and saving an allied nation is of incomparably higher value for the US than a few ships. Most of this equipment goes to american defense industry anyways, creating jobs and wealth in America, as well as improving defense capabilities. Or it saves hundreds of millions of scrapping or maintenance costs. To sum up, there is zero actual reason to complain about Ukraine support.
@dmacarthur53564 ай бұрын
@@abraham2172When the war started the US and Ukraine were not in any formal security alliance. Russia was hardly a military threat to the US before they US staged a coup in Ukraine and the dimwitted VP announced plans to bring Ukraine into NATO. Now, because of US intervention into a conflict we should have kept our noses out of, they are a threat. The treatment of Russia post USSR and involvement in Ukraine are massive US foreign policy blunders in the name of US world wide hegemony.

The U.S. is mighty worried about the tofu fleet. Desperation is an understatement. The U.S. can’t build any single class ship it wants to build on time or on budget. This constipation class is turning into the little crappy ship of this decade

The US Navy is out of synch in ship building. We need these ships now and not later in 2030. Hopefully no other ship building cycle gets sidetrack, delayed or canceled. This sucks. What we have now LCS? "So stop your bitching and figure how to make lemonade out of lemons." This is the reality of things.

It's that the Navy's top leadership always wants design changes and Fincantieri can't start a ship that they immediately want to change it. It's the lobbies that want their weapons-
