The town of Doi Mae Salong is perched on top of a mountain ridge in the North of Thailand near the Myanmar border. Whilst the surrounding villages are mainly made up of Hill Tribes, DMS is almost entirely Chinese. The language, architecture, food and traditions all come from mainland China. So, how and why did they get here? Let's find out.

Do you need a driver license to rent a bike ?

To drive legally in Thailand you need a license. To rent a motorbike however, no one asks to see one. If you drive without a license you won't be insured. If you are caught without a license, Thai Police will issue an on the spot fine of between 5-30 Euros (200-1000 Thai baht), and then let you continue driving onwards.
