And the Panamanian government just shifted recognition from Taipei to Beijing as the sole representative of China in the international community only in 2017 under former president Juan Carlos Valera and his chief diplomat+vice president Isabel de St. Malo. There will be more room for engagement, consensus and cooperation between both sides in the years and decades to come like other Latin American countries which established ties with mainland China decades before.

I am overseas chinese in indonesia, here we have the largest population of chinese outside china...about 8 million, but only represent about 4% of indonesia population Singapore have the largest percentage of chinese population at 75.9% (3 million people) Malaysia have 22.5% of chinese population (7.5 million people)

Genetically and ancestrally, Latin America is actually the most diverse region of the world outside of the megadiverse countries of the English-speaking world and the newly immigrant recipient countries of the European Union. In waves and waves, West and Central Africans were brought in as slaves from the countries that would become Senegal, Guinea, Congo, Angola, Nigeria, and Mozambique. And by the millions, Spanish and Portuguese colonists settled the land as well as smaller waves of Sephardic Jews among them. Later on, Italian, Lebanese, Syrian, Chinese, German, Palestinian, Japanese, French and Eastern European immigrants arrived to the various countries of Latin America after they became independent. And all of that is on top of our Indigenous heritage, which is extremely diverse in and of itself. The Spanish and Portuguese Empires were the original melting pots.

For obvius reasons; US allow our independence, built the first interoceanic railway, the first canal, the first brige to link both saparated lands of our country and allow us to use the US Dollar currency since 1904. Also many sencibility Canal trades between our countries, things like neutrality, traffic, merch, security by US and more. So basically we are in the middle of comercial war between USA and China.

Well china's has not invested in Panama as it has done in other latin American countries eventhought there is a large Chinese population in the country,Panamá and china have just recently been formally doing business for most of the millennium Panamá did business with Taiwan however back in 2017 they renounced to acknowledge Taiwan's independence and froze relations with Taiwan to be able to start with China, China will never be able to fully influence Panamá since the country is very independent on its own economic and the USA depends on the canal functions, China is just a passing cloud in the Panamanian sky if anything the only things they have help Panamá with is the new bridge over the canal and even that Panama has fully invested their on money on it china is just helping with the logistic. Panamá dance at its own rhythm.

It’s rather important to note that Panama actually recognized the ROC (Taiwan) instead of mainland China for over 100 years, first establishing relations in 1912. It wasn’t until June 2017 that Panama switched recognition to the People’s Republic of China. Therefore, only five years ago, Panama still recognized the ROC as the “legitimate China”. Does the addition of numerous infrastructure projects in Panama make it a popular and probably incentive and reason to switch diplomatic relations? It’s very likely in this day and age, especially with China emerging as an economic powerhouse of the world. Just something to note! Fun fact of the day.
