CVT on mine. Love it. Stage 2 for 4 years, no dramas. Changed fluid 3 times. Kept servicing and didn't slam it off from a stop. Still great. Most people who say they hate the CVT haven't driven one. WAY faster, smoother, and simply a pleasure to drive. Now, they're cheap to replace and rebuild, or, as only the CVT engine will allow, a manual swap with the GVE.

Have the CVT on my 2008 S Line DTM. Got the car on the cheap. Really love the CVT. With the paddle shifters, it was actually the most expensive option back then. Great mpg and faster than either the manual or tiptronic. The paddle shifters are a must have. Good video. Changed the fluid using Amzoil. No issues whatsoever. Btw, Audi does not have a chemical plant. Their fluid is made by Motul. You can buy it for less than half the price. These cars are worth the trouble of fixing up. Bought a silver s line qm California car. Worked on at 034 Motorsport. Has their high flow cat, all the street density mounts, Unitronic stg1 tune and a eibach koni cup kit. $5300 June of 2019 with 138k on it and receipts in the glove box that total more than I paid for it. Super clean with only a small dent on the hood. Could eat out of the engine bay. Now with 143k on it a couple of scratches, evap leak, oil filter housing leak and antifreeze leak near the turbo somewhere. Never over 4k rpm and still this BS. So mad cause my go fast money now has to go into maintenance. Oh well, I still love the car. Always get asked how I kept it so clean. All credit goes to the previous owner.

@Kris Nicholson I don't think that's true. Once the hardware is installed and mechanically working, and you have the new trans wired correctly, the software side of things is fixable. I know for a fact that on the MQB platform, the ECUs have the same hardware and software part numbers, regardless of transmission. Swapping the trans is as simple as changing the correct bits in the ECU and other module's long coding, and removing that auto trans from the Gateway Installation List on the CAN gateway. This is an older car, so it may be different than the MQB platform, but I can't imagine requiring an ECU replacement for a transmission swap. Worst case, maybe flashing the ECU to a different software version with ODIS Engineering or something but again, not impossible or too costly. If it really needed a different ECU, it can still be swapped with a cheap used junkyard one and adapted with ODIS Service. DAP could do it if they wanted to...

@thegeekdreams4 жыл бұрын
I agree @ 15:41 where you say you’re “not super familiar with CVT transmissions..”. CVT = A continuously VARIABLE (not valueless) transmission! Your fault code P0706 is probably the transmission range sensor (aka neutral switch). I would use VCDS to test the module. Possible cause is corrosion either on connector or sensor by a leaking water vent pipe under passenger carpet. If the fluid change / adaptation doesn’t help, this is what you may want to look at.

The CVT is an amazing transmission. I have it in combination with the 3.0 V6. Up to 45 mph it revs at 1200rpm. At 75 mph it revs 2000 rpm. 0-60 in 6.5 sec. Average fuelconsumption is 1:15. Very smooth, very silent, brilliant. The CVT saves 25% fuel, so if it breaks down, no problem. I gladly have it repaired. It has been flushed at 30.000miles and will be flushed at 60.000 miles... just to make sure. No such thing as lifetime transmission fluid.

Vibration under acceleration comes from inner CV joint 100% it is not Gearbox related! even if there is zero play once taken out for inspection. Puting in new ones will make it super smooth under acceleration. @tipptop93 жыл бұрын
@@kylemandt527 Em no I'm not mistaken, the FSI engine has a timing belt AND a timing chain. It has a timing belt from crank to exhaust cam, then a chain between exhaust and intake cam. The mileage would be helpful to determine if it worth tinkering with.

Is it normal for these engines to gie a purring sound as they idle, if not would replacing the plugs and wires fix this issue?

Denso coils are no good? Or no good for Audi? I’ve had so many Bosch or whatever VW/Audi uses coils go bad over the life of the car.

@@progmanmike Dsg is prolly more unreliable than cvt. And 195k miles is pretty good

@Steven Strain It had some blowby which is normal, but then one day just suddenly it started draining coolant into the engine. The DSG just needed a clutch pack at around 120k ever since then the DSG had been problem free. I'm thinking in a year or so I'll have the disposable income to hit up integrated engineering for their built short block.
@ShersGarage4 жыл бұрын
Head gasket failure. There are plenty of engines out there you can get for around $500-$1000. 2.0 FSI is a decent engine. Aside from couple weak points.

Do these 2.0 TFSI engines have any problem with the oil pump? (the oil pump balance shaft hex key is too weak) Or is it just the 2.0 diesel's weakpoint? I have a similar condition B7 2.0 TDI manual with 296.000 km (184k miles) and I have already had it repaired preemptivly. I want is to reach 500.000 km. :) BTW I'd love to see that manual conversion in a video.

if i had the tools and lift and inside like these guy i would have no issue buying a cheap car and fixing it. as long as you can do the work yourself most of these cars a not expensive to fix. it when one has to fix it outside in the rain and cold they get irritating

I have this same exact car other then mine is white. I spun a bearing on the crank and it is pretty much done. I’m gonna replace the engine but now I’m wondering what it would take to do a manual swap. The bad part is my CVT transmission has no problems so far and the car has 136,000 miles on it

If that box has 7 plate clutch pack then its way better then the 6 plate clutch. The biggest problems had diesel engines esspecially 2.5 tdi with CVTs since diesels will put more NM on the box. If its the 6 plate clutch then it should hold 300nm, if its a 7 plate thrn it should hold 400nm. Gasoline engines with 7 clutch pack are ok, there were failures on those versions aswell but not as much as diesel and 6 plate box versions. People often remap their gasoline cars and they make over 300nm and thats the limit of the box if u have 6 plate clutch. If u change oil in theese boxes regulary and u dont push them too much and dont remap it then its ok.

At least Audi learned 10years ago that cvt is not the answer, many car companies are still using it. Proper CVT (not with simulated gears) is good for hybrid/pure electric, other than that is useless.
