EV Charge Points are spreading across the country, but there is a hidden danger that not many home owners are aware of, and they are trusting that the electrician they employ knows of this danger and makes sure it is mitigated as much as possible.
What is this danger ? An Open PEN Fault.
Watch this video to find out what this is, and why it could make your EV Charger lethal.

As someone from the US, what makes an EVSE/EV Charger different than other loads on the electrical system? We don't typically have central RCD (or GFCI) protection here, but EVSE devices will have GFCI built-in. Many loads don't have any sort of ground fault protection to begin with.

Probably the biggest difference is the duration. Most other loads like showers, cookers and so on, only have a full load for a few minutes (maybe 15-20 minutes tops for showers). An EV Charger however could be using a full load for several hours, exposing itself to a much higher risk of a fault occuring while it's on, as well as thermal effects being larger on devices such as MCB's, which is why it's not recommended to run an EV charger at the same load as the MCB attached to it as it could trip due to heating.
