By the way in case anyone is curious, the tails have used something called a Split Concentric Cable, commonly used in communal buildings such as flats with a TN-S connection. A Concentric cable might be seen in a TNC-S installation

A ladder to reach the panel? In the states, the height to the highest breaker handle can be no more than 2m per the NEC.

Yes, and the accessibility of this board will be noted as it shouldn't be higher than 1.5m under current building codes, but the landlord will be under no obligation to move it. I see this all the time in flats.

@@vwes If the landlord doesn't have an obligation to fix it, then the rule doesn't really exist...

I've never seen copper crushed like that. I tried to duplicate it with a spare ground bus bar and some 14awg I had sitting around, it doesn't seem possible to do by hand (both strength and the driver slipping) I think the only way to do that is with an impact driver and zero self control.

I was surprised IR testing is not required to be carried out at 500v Is this a recent change? I can understand doing preliminary LN tests at 250V in case there is unforseen connected equipment or neon lights.
@vwes Жыл бұрын
My reading of Amendment 2 of the 18th edition is that the IR test is allowed at 250V DC now. If anyone reads this different please comment.

@@vwes thanks. My competency ended with 17th edition amendment 2, when I retired from working as a registered electrician.

All that earths should have been doubled over,most electrical consultants had it in their spec. to double over if less than 4mm.

That makes sense as 4mm and above are multi strand

Thanks for another interesting video. I thought that with ammendment two you didn't have to put the lables on the boards anymore. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I still put on inspection labels and RCD reminder labels, I just don't bother with the multiple conductor colour labels anymore

With your IR tests, what magnitude of ohms were you reading?
@vwes Жыл бұрын
My Kewtech reads to >2000MOhms, but anything above 2MOhms is a pass, though you would probably check into something that low. 1-2MOhms should definitely be checked and

@@vwes Thanks. I’m not a member of a CPS so asked a ‘member’ to do a board change for me, as I’d installed several new circuits requiring RCBOs as part of a kitchen refurb.. My basic checks before starting any work revealed a N/E IR of 250k on a ring final. The likely fault was hidden in the fabric of the occupied dwelling and I was unable to isolate it. I informed the CPS spark of this issue, he just installed the board and recorded 250k for the IR on the circuit. Of course it won’t bother an RCBO but I had to smile. I’d wired the new kitchen sockets as a new 4mm Radial so my stuff was sound.
