As a Dutch person I love seeing Ray in these video’s. Although I knew the term “waterpomptang” I always thought it got its name as a tool to remove water pumps. Until Ray explained the handle of the plier is similar to old waterpumps. Amazing what you can still learn.

***Q&A Question*** Scott, have you always been so level headed and calm about the building process? If not, then any tips on how to not stress out like crazy when managing a big job? Just also wanted to say that I have loved the channel ever since I started my apprenticeship all the way to now as I’m starting my own building company in Sydney (Benchmark Carpentry). You’ve been a massive inspiration to me along the way, not only the work you do, but your attitude towards life seems to be so genuine and ecstatic. I hope renovating your own house is living up to the dream. It’s been an amazing 400 eps. Thank you for sharing a slice of your life with us. Truly thankful to you and Jess.

Exact same marital thickness planer I have. Had it for about 10 years. You won't be disappointed with it; for its size it does a great job. Hook it up to a dust extractor to assist getting the woodchips out the way. Can you include Ray in some of the Q & A? I'd be interested in knowing the ratio of hours you spend a week in; planning, buying matrials; doing the job; time taken up positioning and recording; number of cameras you use; time spent at the computer preparing the episode; etc. Love your work guys!

Hey Scott! Love your work. Not sure if this would fit in your Q&A: As a hearing care professional I’d love if you can keep promoting hearing protection. We see a lot of noise induced hearing loss in tradies and it often is because they don’t bother with proper PPE/ear protection. Paying with permanent damage to their ears later. Thanks mate!

Kudos for using the advanced design technique of letting the floor tell part of the story of the house and not getting perfectionist about trying to make everything "match". Please consider limewash paint for at least one of the large walls. It can provide a lush color and subtle texture combination that can turn a wall into something to contemplate.

Hi Scott! Reno is looking great :) I mentioned this on an episode a month or so ago but there were moments in this video that I really loved so thought I’d share again. Hi Scott and Jess. Great channel. Finally got round to subscribing to you guys. I have nearly seen all your videos after coming across your channel just before you moved to Nelson. I found one of your videos on building steps really helpful as my son is living/working on a dairy farm in Waikato and previous contract milker built a deck in front of house but didnt make steps. son is really busy as is owner so I offered to build some steps but stringer method looked to complicated so used your series of box type steps method. It worked well and the owner was pleased enough to pay me a few hundred $$, crazy, as I was just doing it for my family to access deck easier. So thank you Scott for the great tuitional videos. Keep on building and I love the renovation work you are doing. I'm a retired farm manager and ramp worker and aircraft refueller.

Why doesn't Jess start her own Gardening channel? She has some notoriety now, and this great platform to help it grow. Sort of a Learn with Me channel but she's learnt so much about it, she knows far more than the average person. Her knowledge on this would be really useful. For the Q and A. Why do you release your videos at like 5am on a Saturday NZ time? Does it align well with American/European time or is it a byproduct of uploading late on a Friday night? Do you ever wish that your could accurately conceive just how long certain processes take. Everything I've seen about you leads me to believe that you are incredibly self critical with a high standard, what are video things that you wish you could improve upon? What are your sports and team that you support? And most importantly when will Jess create her own segment about gardening and cooking?

Hey Scott! Love the channel, watched every episode. I do have a question. I have recently done an addition of 15 square meters to my house off my living room. Super happy with it and just finishing up some of the paint work now before we can start using it again. But I was really stunned at the amount of rubbish it generated. Not really the cut offs, but more all the packagings, delivery pallets, plactic tubes, plastic straps, etc. If there is one item you would "greenify" based on your experience that you think would make a big impact, what would it be? Personally I think making the plastic tubes (that have things like silicone, glue and grout in them) out of a biodegradible material would make a huge impact.

My house is rimu, and when you cut a 4x2 it has at least 50 rings in the cross section, its hard as nails.

Hi Scott and Jess. We used that exact colour of velvet curtian in our master bedroom (our last house). It looked really dramatic without being overpowering. We had a wallpaper with the same green in it.

The marks on the timber are chip bruising, caused when the volume of chip exceeds the capacity of the extraction.

I was surprised to learn how much NZ native was sent to San Fransico for their rebuild after the 1906 earthquake and fire. Another great video.

Question for the Q&A; Do you renovate your house full time / 5 days a week, or are you doing other jobs or contracting throughout the week too?

The house is coming on brilliantly and it’s a joy to watch the progress! One question I’ve had is that the new kitchen window looked a little unsupported when you installed the lintel, can you confirm if that small ledge that was cut in is sufficient??

Thank heaps for continuing doing these awesome episodes and keep them coming. I would love to now how or what type of plastic you use in you dust walls doing Reno works? It’s great that there’s a door space which allows you enter and exit. Cheers

Also I have started looking into mitre gauges for the table saw and I would invest in a good mitre gauge, especially one that allows you to move the fence or attach a different fence. And get one, that allows you to set a wide range of angles. The mitre gauge that came with my table saw, only allows me to go from 30 degrees to 90 degrees. But if you buy a good mitre gauge that allows you to set 5 degree increments, then you can cut tapered legs. I am thinking of buying the "Incra Miter 1000"...

I m from Brazil, the house I live is woodframe (pretty rare in the region I live: São Paulo metropolitan zone) it was built I guess in the 90s or late 80s, it is certently built with hardwood, I cant be certain but it could be Ipê or Jatoba, or I can be completly wrong about the species, but it is definitly a hard wood. Ipê, which you may know as Brazilian Oak, is an extrimely hard and beautiful wood which today is pretty control and can only be cut in some cases and some subspecies of it.

I got a question for the upcoming Q&A: This may be a bit specific. But I believe that if you are gonna start out with purchasing battery-driven tools. you should rotate with buying one tool to attach stuff (Like a drill) and then buy something to cut/remove stuff (Like a multicutter or a circular saw). My question is then: What tools do you think are a must or necessary as a "First buy" priority? I personally started with a drill, then bought a circular saw, then a driver, finally a angle grinder and now lastly a multicutter. This is all in the BOSCH Professional 18V Platform. Other than that, thanks alot for sharing your lifes and the work being done in carpentry! -Cheers from Norway!
