I’ve played 40k since the early 90’s and over the years have literally bought thousands of miniatures. About a year ago I made a conscious decision to sell off everything except my main army of interest (World Eaters). I then spent the last year painting the backlog of my main army and now have over 5k points of painted models: far more than I’ll ever need for a typical game. This has completely liberated me as a Hobbiest: i only paint when I want to now with zero pressure to have to do so. I can paint five minutes a day simply for the fun of it or not pick up a brush for a week if I choose with no feelings of not making progress, etc. I also find I now spend a lot more time on models I choose to paint because there is no pressure to have to finish so I can chip away at some overwhelming backlog and my individual models look better than ever as a result. I’ve never been more relaxed nor enjoyed myself more as a 40k Hobbiest and gamer and I’m never going back to having a huge backlog hanging over my head.
@sndgamingchannel92793 жыл бұрын
Learning to buy only what you can realistically paint is the way. I have maybe like 2-3 boxes on rotation at once, seems to work well. I think I'd get anxiety and not get much enjoyment if I had that many to do. Just looks like a job when you're like...yeah if I paint everyday this will take 2+ years to paint.
@RieksVisser3 жыл бұрын
I'm in the process of doing the same and it's extremely liberating. The paralysis of starting to work on what I'll never finish is gone.
@Bryan-zx8cl3 жыл бұрын
You have made a very valid point. I've been playing 40K since the early 90's, as well. I have four armies. Each one is approximately 3,500 points or more. I live overseas in a remote area. I have only one opponent. Therefore, I prefer to bring a different army for each session, so that my opponent doesn't feel bored fighting against the same army, every time. However, I envy the fact that you have consolidated your army. In my case, using an airbrush has reduced painting times. Now, I am re-evaluating my need for this many models....

4 hours a model? That's way too high. Lots of stuff in there that he can easily batch paint. Not to mention he has access to Guy, an experienced speedpainter.
@TheMuffinBagare3 жыл бұрын
@@VaSoapman You'd also have to consider that many models will take waaay more than 4 hours as well though.
@Anecron13 жыл бұрын
And add in time for removing moldlines, cleaning the painting area, conversions, repairing broken minis, interrupting kids, interrupting adults, ordwring spare parts for the airbrush, cleaning the airbrush, scanning e-bay for complimentary models... 4 hours per model is not a bad estimate even if you only spend 2 hours painting.

The lighting and editing are A++, great work team! Not sure if you actually want to paint your pile, but if so I'd suggest getting everything to the stripped and primed stage, then you have a nice common 'blank slate' to start with and can immediately start painting anything you fancy on a certain day without having to go through the prep.

Squids, if you're ever in need of content, make this pile of shame a reoccurring theme. For instance, you could organize them into likelihood of being played or how much space are they taking up, the possibilities are endless, also there are a lot of hobby enthusiasts out there that might benefit from seeing someone actually address this as inspiration in desperate need of perspiration, or at least something that isn't just collecting dust. Keep up the fine work, I look forward to your next video.
