In my opinion, as someone who has played the game since beta, they never fully committed to making the game successful from the beginning. - The game was rushed out many years before it was ready. One Tamriel should have been the release moment and even then there were basic systems missing. - Trifectas in Dungeons, Time Trials and Arenas are the endgame content but there was never anyone employed to develop their longevity passed the first clears. (e.g. Leaderboards, Score-pushing, World records, Speedruns, Higher Difficulty levels etc.) How can you expect people to stay around when your endgame has a literal end with no advanced reward system. - In-game Guild system was and still is incredibly basic. They cannot be suprised by the fact that being in a guild in the game itself is mostly a ceremonial or optional activity. Discord completely removed the need for players to use the Guild system. Guild Traders are the only real reason to exist physically in an in-game guild, and that is managed entirely by Addons and the Guild Hierarchy without any social input needed from members as long as their dues are paid. - The stability and performance of the game has constantly been a factor in reducing player numbers. If your updates make the game unplayable time & time again, people will leave. - Combat direction. Was there one uniform path? No. There were massive game-changing patches on a quarterly basis for over half a decade. Not to make the game 'fresh' or 'renewed' but because the combat changes they did make were hastily formulated & poorly thought out. Which brings me to maybe the most important point. - Testing. The Public Test Server being a separate download & install completely to the main game was a huge mistake. Yes other games do this as well. No it didn't need to be this way. The number of players they COULD have had testing systems & areas, mechanics, combat changes would have been many many magnitudes larger had they integrated the PTS into the Live server, instead of it being a standalone 120GB download. Also, zero incentives or rewards for people to test content. All these things point to the unmissable fact that they were on a very specific mission when they made ESO. Ride the Skyrim hypetrain to gravy town using as little resources, employees, time & money as possible even at the cost of high-player turnover, no long-term stability and a damaged reputation going forward into future games. Mention any of these things on the ESO forum also will get your post white-knighted by a 10star forum account you've never seen before, the post locked or deleted, or your forum account threatened with a suspension or ban. Shame, the game had great potential if it were in better hands.

Furthermore, the game is becoming increasingly bolschevik woke and the community managers used to treat influencers kinda badly. I remember one of them telling Alcast to not mansplain... This game may not be a fail when comparing to other monetarily, but it is a huge failure in regards of its wasted potential and horrible handling of patches, combat and set changes, never fixing pvp, shitting on pve endgame players, etc. I cannot fathom how I played this game for six years and how people still play this game. It is a toxic relationship to a soulless corporation that hates all of us. Anyway, have a nice weekend, N'Wah!

I hope that one of ZoS's targets in their "polish everything" run is improving how combat _feels_ (it's always felt really "floaty"). Making combat & abilities in general feel _satisfying_ to use automatically extends the longevity of any game - there's always gonna be players who'll be happy to kill an afternoon just running around and hitting things, as long as the "hitting things" part tickles their lizard brain.

Regarding the game's retention rates, communication from the developers about the recent performance decline has been abysmal at best. Players are leaving in droves, raid teams are disbanding, PvP is becoming deserted, and players are clustering in small pug groups. On the forums, dedicated questers are insisting there’s nothing wrong, claiming the performance issues are on the players' end. In my 10 years of playing, I’ve never seen the game in such a bad state. Sanity's Edge hard mode is unplayable, heals aren’t targeting properly, and the game is overwhelmed with lag and disconnects. All we hear from the devs and community managers is, "We hear you," but there’s zero meaningful communication. It doesn’t matter how they change guild mechanics or add new content if the game itself simply doesn’t work.

I'd prefer to have a centralized market that would allow players to sell items to other players instead of the guild trader system. Forcing players to join guilds in order sell items is lame. Many trader guilds put pressure on members to meet sales quotas and the guilds have to place huge bids on trader spots. I like all other aspects of the guild system. I played another mmo and each character was separately admitted to guilds and one guy wanted a kickback when I tried to add a second character to his guild.

One of the main issues that ESO has for new gamer's and current long playing players is that the combat is not user friendly as a DPS. People want to act like DPS is easy when it isn't. Go queue as a tank or healer, and watch pugs dps, and you'll see the current state of the AVERAGE player... It's horrible. You have games like FFXIV that allow you to chain combo moves for a bigger effect, ti's easier to learn, and you have multiple combos. In addition to that, they have chain attacks that visibly show you what moves/route you can goto with your combos that would easily show you how to properly dps to where you can do any content, now raids you might have to try a little harder and gain more understanding. ESO simply just doesn't have that, here's a random set of moves, figure out how to put them together, and make it work... Not only that, When DPSing in FFXIV, when there isn't much timing involved as the game will not allow you to use the next move until the move set is actually done, and each time you activate these abilities, they never fail to activate like ESO does. ESO has a major issues when dpsing too fast, the abilities do not activate which causes major DPS loss which is way too punishing. Most MMORPG's are really hard for new player's to get into for one reason or another, but for ESO, it's the combat, and it never really gets better. You either get it, or you don't. The player's who don't have that problem are the players who are doing trifectas, but for the vast majority of other players, they're just barely getting by. Lol

I totally agree that the average dps is pretty lost, but I feel that is due to the HUGE difference between open world difficulty and veteran dungeons/trials, basically people think that the heavy attack no sets build they’ve been walking through questing with is viable for vet content and then when you try to point out that their dps is too low to be polite/considerate for vet content they just act like your an ahole. Between that and the nightblade nerfs(my old favorite class for 4man) I stopped trying to do random vet dungeons,(basically meta is stale and it feels like 9/10 times you have to carry the other “dps”) I feel like dps devolves into the “I just want to play the game” class when you just can’t do that in this kinda game

@@GoochMuncher6969 the amount of guilds ive been kicked from for telling officers and guild leaders how to better play their class and role because they both wanted to Vet content AND play their character to their exact specifications, and other comment about DPSing not being user friendly, theres a reason Oakensoul was so popular, being able to cut half your abilities off to obtain similar dps numbers was very attractive to a lot of people

Also people feel resentful and cheated that they pay a subscription for content they will never be able to complete and this is made worse by people in game telling them they don’t “qualify” to even attempt. When that one bar sorc heavy attack build came out, it was like a breath of fresh air with all the achievements that were now within grasp and the influx of available players. Zos put the kabash on it so fast that it really broke the spirit of much of the community. 😞

That’s not hyperbole. That’s just facts. Most MMO players don’t want to play PvP, and games that cater too heavily to PvP either shift to cater to PvE die BDO was the only exception and that was niche as hell until they started catering to PvE crowd

Creators were the reason I even discovered this game. When I saw the dynamic pvp combat it drew me in, even though Ive never been investet into the franchise. Its confusing to see such low numbers of viewers interested in ESO content. Tbh though I think any MMO even the big ones struggle to attract new players or keep existing ones excited. As a returning player after a 7 year break the game feels really refreshing to other games. There is tons of content, i still see many positives in the game - something maybe some veteran players cant see anymore. What annoys me is the constant complaining from the player base. No matter on KZbin or on forums, I only see players complain. Maybe for some it would be a good idea just to take a brake.

you would probably also complain about some stuff if you didn't have a 7 year break. I mean the game can be just so frustrating. I'm an endgame PvE player doing HM/trifecta raids and it's just so frustrating that they not only keep putting more and more fancy shit in the crown store but also take away stuff that was earnable through accomplishments, like skins for clearing raids in vet/HM for example. i mean, apart from in-game titles, which are more often than not pretty bad, there are 3 mounts unlockable (two of them locked behind the hardest trifectas in the game). there just no incentive, no real rewards to get for doing that. and then there's the thing about bugs. for example: there's a point in the dreadsail reef raid where your character could squeeze between a rock and and a fence and you could spare yourself from walking a small curve (5s maximum in area where no fight is intended). they fixed that. but in law of morkaj, of you kill one of the twins while he is jumping, the other one gets invisible and therefore untargetable. if that happens, 90% sure wipe. THAT BUG EXISTS SINCE FOREVER! and that's just the tip of the iceberg, maybe you'll understand better why people can be frustrated with that game.

I had a 7 year break too. Our experience is totally different. Mountains of content to get through, multiple currencies to earn, multiple new dungeons. I started playing again right before the Undaunted event. It was just madness lol. All these dungeons I never saw before, I learnt basically nothing about them because everyone was in a rush (it was fun though). I'll probably just burn out again trying to catch up. Currently levelling my scrying so I can improve my build but man that scrying game is garbage. Watching and listening to people that never stopped playing or have been playing for the past 7 years is very insightful. It's good to know what they think because I will probably think it too soon enough. I already think the same about all the Crown store crap. And in my opinion there is something deeply wrong with the game when 3000+ CP players are often useless at the actual content. I guess these people are good for ZOS and maybe good for the game economy (with the sketchy crowns for gold stuff going on). They must be just buying crowns, selling them for gold and spending all the gold on writs so they can level up yet another useless toon riding around on a silly looking mount lol. People unironically calling home decoration "the real end game" now. I can only laugh.

I hear you but you have been gone for 7 years, and there are serious communication issues between the player base and the devs. This little survey is the only of of its kind I can remember in my entire play time on eso. They rarely ask for player feedback and when they do well, let’s just say you have a better chance of winning an Apex mount in the crown store then for ZOS to lactually listen to you. I feel like this would be a simple change, set up regular surveys, work with player chosen reps to act as intermediaries between the players and the devs. Also work to improve and implement changes based on the player feedback, and fix performance and be transparent about what going on and how their going to fix it. This isn’t a player problem, it’s a ZOS management issue. They have lost the trust of the ESO community and have yet to do a much of anything to improve their credibility

Combat: Needs veteran areas within zones with a warning like Craglorn. If people value roles in overland people will be or ask for more of them. Wandering bosses in all zones. Trials: Doubles the purples and gold rewards. UI: Hideous on console. Key terms are the same color and font. Eyesore and deterrent for new players. Stories: Tone is too light. A little too cartoonish for a game that is played mostly by older people.

no need for new zone. you have massive world and you can make it where you can choose to raise difficulty. Imagine Sheogorath spawn at main cities and if you go talk to him he offers you two new options: Mad world: all overland content is veteran difficulty with new quests (written letters) no need for voice acting to make it easy. when you choose this "Mad world" the following will happen: - the sky color will change do reddish or dark theme + music change+ you can't use wayshrine because Sheogorath gave you your soul back to fit the lore + Forced encounter while you travel: a bubble will spawn and you can't leave it until you finish the task like kill the bandits who try to rob you or a tales of tribute challenger spawns or even mount race with npcs the other option from Sheogorath is Total Madness: all the above + PVP is active all the time except major cities "safe zone" Rewords will be valuable but the pvp one is faster to get them because its more challenging.

I'm not buying new chapters for 3 years already and do not feel I'm missing out on some valuable experience. That alone is telling how meaningless everything ZOS do for the recent years. The last expansion I bought (which is Blackwood) was essentially a scam, because companions don't do everything they've demonstrated in trailer and overall are abandoned now as a system. But the most frustrating to me is that most players just put up with this, defending ZOS's marketing team as if they were their blood relatives. Ahh... I wasn't that emotional even when I divorced my ex-wife than while I'm talking about ESO's countless flaws...

I left the game because of guild drama, essentially. Not that I had conflict with anyone, but I watched my main guilds implode due to tension that probably could have been avoided with better guild structures. Players should be clear on the intention of a guild, and just having a tag system isn't good enough. Almost every guild is tagged casual, even if they're a pretty serious trial guild. This meant that when a cadre of sweaty players, myself included, tried to use the guilds as a prog-trial planning system (for which there were already categories made on the discord, for crying out loud), there was huge pushback from the 70% who didn't want it to turn into "that kind of guild," even though these guilds were labeled for trials as well as casual play. I'm tired of watching friend groups implode over a bunch of silly nonsense. Along with the overpopulation of creeps, that was the death knell of ESO for me. I used to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on ESO in a year, and I'm surprised it's taken Zos this long to feel the bleeding because I know I'm not even close to the only one. Zos needs a major revamp if this game is going to drag itself from the trash heap of internet history.

One of biggest problem for guilds is the 500 player limit when only 50 to 80 is online at any time. Of those, 1 percent that can join random groups is less then 12 or 4 for dungeon/trials. Need to sell tokens in the crown store to increase the limit by 100 all the way to 5,000 limit. That would help a lot getting groups going.

i dont pay for eso+ anymore because of all the annoyances related to quality of life and bad design. if the game felt buttery smooth and amazing, with systems implemented in a satisfying manner, i would be more inclined to throw money. inventory is a major issue for me. there are so many useless items that i trash on a 20 minute basis. the gear and weapon itemization is a mess. grinding doesnt feel fulfilling. the list goes on. so why do i keep playing? i achievement hunt and expand my toons never ending collections. one thing that's been bugging me lately is the lack of rewards for completing achievements.100%-ing categories gives me achievement points? i dont even know what those are for. i want cool rewards for playing so i can show off. in the end, my biggest issues revolve around tedious design decisions that limit my freedom. eso+ needs to move on from their craft bag selling point, and "playing the game", whether its base game, overland, free to play, new player experience, NEEDS to feel like a premium experience. the guild system is one of those areas that drastically needs streamlining. being in a guild should feel like the easiest thing you can do in the game to boost your accessibility. currently, it acts more like an exclusive club where you have to pull your own weight and constantly compete. its stressful. linking the in game economy and market to guilds results in a non casual friendly limitations. overhauling guilds would dramatically improve the entire game.

They have some amazing systems but they disconnected the systems from lore ,immersion, and progression, which put ALL of the point of the game onto challenge and difficulty. This funneled everybody to pvp and end game, except they did zero investment into pvp, and end game has no reward structure. They built systems like mythics to monetize the game...release new mythics based on meta or play style rather than for story, lore, immersion...the game is too superficial, to many surface level systems that are impossible to balance, so they let them fail or fall apart. Standard mmo stuff.

ESO's actual problem is that it needs to update the combat system and make the combat fun and the fact we have to grind for our classes which hurts replayability because you're limited by being forced to specific builds as well as limiting the experience to a somewhat linear experience. it makes the game stagnant because it becomes "i've done all the quests here i have no reason to explore the zone" situation. ESO should let us have freedom of customization and overhaul the zones or even merge zones and add more into them and give us a reason to explore

In another game I play its one guild with 20 guildies whom I know alot about and stick together as a close friendgroup that also does other stuff together like watching movies, meeting up irl and so on. In ESO Id say 95% of the guild members are total strangers to me even inside the trial guild where Im active ingame and discord I basically only know the trial group and those that tag along from time to time when we miss a player.

After practically bingeing raids from u37-u41 I got really bored with the meta after the status changes every class feels the same now imo and the dps changes made some more unique set ups/classes just straight up unplayable as they took a nerf to damage from trap nerf ect but Zos never gave them a way to make it up as they naturally don’t have a lot of status damage, but my MAIN gripe is that now in pvp gimmicky/meme builds are top tier, heavy attack wardens spammin northern storm, bowblades can run dual procs like it’s 2019 again, magsorcs that you have to chase to the ends of the earth but they can burst you the moment you have your back turned, Templars in cyrodil that only spam the heal ult and beam, the list is endless. I dont want these options to be taken out of the game, but they shouldn’t be the “meta” option. When there are so many exploits it starts to make your impact as an individual feel less and less important. Hell even when I go 15-0 in a high mmr bg I still feel like “wtf was that” after a game. Cyrodil on Xbox Na feels horrible, we have MAYBE a 60 player cap and most of that space is taken up by the “winners” who just run 50k hp all day and just get their damage from coordinating ults while pumping out heals the rest of the time. I’m not sure who’s more at fault, the playerbase or Zos but either way cyrodil just feels awful and I usually can’t stand more than an hour even then I’m forcing it. When there was a time I could spend my whole weekend in cyro

I started playing ESO in the beta. The two largest problems I had with the game were combat and auction houses. The combat feels too floaty and unimpactful. Some skills don't feel this way, but a lot of them do, and overall I feel like it's incentivized to just spam various AOE abilities for various activities, which exasperates the floaty-ness/unimpactful issue. Guild traders serving as auction houses also felt very underwhelming. There's no reliable way to find what you're looking for, and there's no guarantee that if you sell something on your guild's trader that anyone will ever even see it to buy it. This lead to the creation of guilds that exclusively revolve around trading. Which is a cool example of emergent gameplay, but still, the guild trader solution to player markets is still not ideal.

I have played for about 8 years now. I live in NZ and my main play time is when everybody is asleep. When I first started, for about 6 months I wasn't that good because there was nothing that really explained the combat system, Gear system and the real economy. I had a break for a few years and came back. There was a lot more information from content creators (Nefas, Skinny cheeks, Lucky ghost, ect) I was improving combat, reaction skills and learning the mechs. I started raiding, gaining gear I had about about 70K DPS. ESO was fun and kind of rewarding I practiced more and more and got to 110K DPS. They changed the way skills where calculated from client side to client/server/client side and the game turned to shit! Any heal skills, Rally, Ultimate and other skills would just start lagging It could take 3 to 4 seconds for a skill to go off! Humping a raid dummy was fine but in content it was unplayable. Then u35 happened! And ESO just changed over night! Does ZOS not understand that they are a Company that does not own it's player base it has to earn them just like every other company. It was said to control the power creep, but what it really did was punish 50% of the the player base for spending hours and hours of practice trying to improve to try to rein in the top 1 percent that just found ways around it in no time and was buck up to where they was pre u35. So I started using the 1 bar sorc for content, this was great cauz it was not effected so much by Skill lag and U35 Nerf, this was ok for awhile until they nurfed it into the ground. It's a game, games should = Fun and achievement , but it just got to the point where it's like running up a sand hill. I don't want a title / memento / mount or shiny trinket I want a game that is playable and a company that respects my loyalty, not one that dictates "How it is" with bad decisions. Lets take the Arcanist They released it. It solved most the skill lag issues for me I could do harder content with it Fantastic Then sure enough Nurf after nurf because it was no fun playing any other toon because the Arc was way over powered. So you have arc players that are pissed with the nurfs and other players that are pissed being so underpowered! You might get a small sugar rush on the release of the new class but the negative side lasts alot longer nobody like things being taken away from them U35 was the best example.

Good vid, Bethesda are about 5 years too late asking these questions a huge number of players have left the game and moved on to better games and dare I say it games where developers actually listen to their player base instead of as you said introducing content no one asked for or no one wanted. As for the ingame forum where someone asked if they would actually pass on the survey results to the team and Kevin said *of course* many players will be sceptical that filling in a survey is going to lead to improvements in the game - just ask the pvp community if their game is any better or has been improved. I will end by saying three or four years ago I led a guild with 500 members. It is still there but now we have just over 100 members. I think that says it all.

Everything else a guild might offer can be had as a solo player, so it's really not needed.

Also adding a free Whiterun DLC might get the numbers higher, since Skyrim is by far the most popular ES game. Just a humble opinion by a nobody

We’ll at least their asking questions that’s good I guess. And yea there is no guild system tools, all of that is done via discord.

The guild system in ESO is pointless. The guild traders need to be scrapped in favor of an auction house system that anyone can participate in when they feel like it instead of having to meet certain minimum contribution levels. If you're in multiple trading guilds, then you can have a WEEKLY obligation to contribute up to 750,000 gold.

combat - I mash buttons and win. I dont need armor I dont need weapons I dont need others, can be naked and punch my way through more or less the whole game. game hardship is boiled down to either stun locking you till you die or it just insta kills you less you do *thing* combat depth: Block, dodge, no deflection or counter pvp - nothing but mages spamming the same 3 spells or tanks who heal you to death. guilds - i just need some random clowns to do some raids/cyrodiil now and then. Weapon types dont really change much because most of their bonuses just focus on their own skill tree. Alot of missing weapon types: pole arms, throwing knifes, spellsword(1h + magic) Alot of missing magic.

They will lose more players if the nerf to Azure blight go through. Both pver and pvper hated the change. Only ball group players praise the change for obvious reason and they number in the hundreds across all platforms.

I want guild traders to be gone and replaced with a universal trade center. Update the guild interface and add something new to them. They have been the exact same since launch.
