I love finding out things like how Soul Silver has a 2 second time save in a speedrun setting over Heart Gold. This is so obscure, and will never help me on a casual run. I also will never forget now, and think about it whenever I play either version.

One note about the battle hall you didn't mention: streaks count species only, not specific mons. So if you had four gyarados, each with different movesets, you could strategically pick types that each individual could handle and build up to a 170 streak that way. It's a relatively sound strategy an NPC clues you into in the facility itself, but there's very few pokemon you'd want to use here that you can get several of and it be worth doing so.

I used to love to tune into a Werster run for one these since he would have to speed through the entire game and then run into the battle frontier. Its long but the rng in most fights bring an anticipation to see how far he gets before the run all goes to shit. Been getting into older pokemon rom hacks recently so my interest in these runs have been growing again since methodical planning tends to be a lot more fun then just getting 6 mons and just powering through the entire game. The roguelike pokemon stadium is also like that.

I can't help but recoil a little bit every time I hear "Rai-coo" instead of "Rai-koh". ^^() Which is silly because I say "Kyo-gre" instead of "Kai-ogre" even though I know it's wrong.

I really like the video and you explained everything really well. I have one very pedantic complaint and that is that Entei, Raikou and Suicune are cats and not dogs. Entei is a lion, Raikou is a saber tooth tiger and Suicune is a leopard.

Seeing people unsubbing and thumbs downing the video because of the raid sponsor makes me sad. It's like people just think these sponsors should be turned down just because people hate it. No, it doesn't work that way. KZbin basically doesn't pay you (it's basically a pittance, maaybe just above poverty level in some areas) and sponsors/donations give the money needed to continue making videos. I see the Raid sponsorship as a huge, huge bonus, not a detriment. Any of you who left because of the sponsorship don't deserve to be watching on KZbin. Good luck in the world, because I don't see you entitled brats living very long.

It feels a little weird to me that RNG manipulation is allowed but glitches like tweaking aren't. Both involve not playing the game as intended. More importantly, on a run that's really supposed to be about the Battle Frontier, why not use glitches to skip over the "boring" part of the run? It's not like tweaking is gonna help much during the fights at the Frontier, which is the real meat of the speedrun. It would make the run less long and more accessible. As a side note, why tf does the butler guy's Staraptor have 255 Special Attack EVs lol.
@codahighland
@codahighland 7 ай бұрын
RNG manipulation doesn't accomplish anything that good luck couldn't do. It's using the mechanics of the game as they were designed in a way that wasn't expected, instead of going outside of the designed mechanics due to an unintended oversight.

rng manipulation isnt a glitch. for instance, in hgss on certain days it doesnt hail on mt silver, so the red fight is easier on those days. is it a glitch to change your ds to that date to optimise the fight? if not, why is it different to set the ds time to give a result you know about rather than just the date?

very informative but there is one small correction regarding the evs - each stat can only hold 252 evs and the third one can get 8 evs but most people give them 4 because this gives the last stat point
@DoctorSwellman
@DoctorSwellman 7 ай бұрын
This is incorrect. The max is 510, with 255 max in each stat for Gen V and before. People put in 252 in 2 stats because that’s the highest number that gives an effective stat boost. 6 EVs are left and only 4 are put in for the effective stat boost

In short: It's easy! And you don't even need a third pokemon lmao. Emerald's battle frontier is infinitely more difficult by orders of magnitude.
@oniondesu9633
@oniondesu9633 6 ай бұрын
depends if you use rng manip or not. wersters gen 3 battle frontier run didnt use manip in anything other than factory, in his gen 4 route he manips pretty much all of them so he knows exactly what mons all his opponents have. also you can argue that some facilities are harder in 3 like the palace, but it also had extremely easy ones like the pike. the factory is orders of magnitude harder in gen 4

All was hype till I heard about overall rng. Just stupid to fish for the best seed rather than being the best in the game. True speed runs should always be the same. The only factor is the player. Bullshit and useless if otherwise.
@Namingway248
@Namingway248 7 ай бұрын
manipulating the rng is the best way to ensure each speedrun is the same though. If you're the best in the world but your party gets nature and IV screwed you won't be able to finish the run at all.
@DoctorSwellman
@DoctorSwellman 7 ай бұрын
It's important to note that only the Pokemon and some battles you get into are being manipulated. The battles themselves are untouched, meaning that a crit or something can end a run and it's out of the player's control
@yeturs69420
@yeturs69420 7 ай бұрын
Wait, you are upset they manipulate rng to create consistency? And you think speedruns should be the same every time? What?
@majorshepard2
@majorshepard2 7 ай бұрын
@@yeturs69420 if the game is rng they should life with it. Play the seed you are given and don't manipulate it. Just my thoughts. I meant that the biggest factor in q speedrun should always be the player. I guess I am not a huge fan of speed runs in games like this where its mostly rng and luck
@yeturs69420
@yeturs69420 7 ай бұрын
@majorshepard2 I feel like these consistency tricks exist to help avoid uneeded rng calls that might slow things down. Like, without step manipulation, final fantasy 7 runs would be like a 37 hour slog hoping you get fewer random encounters to speed up. The tricks level the playing field.
