Why is USB-C so confusing?

USB-C has the issue of having to choose either high data transfer speeds or high power delivery speeds in most cases.

That is not clear for the average Joe which unfortunately makes the standard often confusing for normal people

Its good that we have a standard connector! I think much confusion could be overcome if companies just labeled the ports with supported functions, Max Bandwidth, supported charging methods etc. Just because it is a universal connector its not weird that we still need to have somewhat knowledge of what we are connecting. Just label the ports!!! The alternative to dumb it down would just prevent development.

I think the headache is that there won’t really be a universal cable for everything since it’s very difficult to combine all the needs of modern electronics with the full efficiency performance we expect without sacrificing one or the other.

Absolutely, but the fact that for the average user it all looks the same is a problem and there really needs to be better markings that separate things ASAP

@@carlosribeiroo the EU inadvertently also created a ginormous amount of e-waste by requiring all devices to be USB-C and everyone is cheering like it’s actually gonna save the planet. In actual fact, it’s NOT, all it’s doing is making things so confusing that we will end up buying a f ton more cables that eventually will be replaced by a new “universal” connector.

Nitpicking or not the fact that I asked real people questions about how they would buy a usb charger or cable and they could not tell the difference between a high quality option and someone else with an inferior product is a problem. Not everyone needs the best of the best but for the average user all this looks the same

@@carlosribeiroo Entire Android world is using Usb C. There are more users who are using android than Iphone.(Apple).

This has very little to do with android and iPhones and more to do with every portable device sharing a port and the accessories that are on the market looking all very similar whilst having very different capabilities. If a laptop charger looks different to a phone charger people understand they are not the same, but if they look the same and don't work the same with no further information the average user will be confused and the standard should be improved to make this information clearer for cables, powerbanks and wall adapters
