You could do a video on Australia. With probably their best World Cup performance in the modern era in 2022, but the Australian FA system is pretty stuffed. Especially if u want to play for an academy with hopes of playing in the A league(Australia’s National League). The cost is insanely high for registration ($1000-3000 per season) which discourages youngsters to play even if they have the talent. Even the Aleague isn’t good enough for young players to develop into world class players. That’s why the Australian National Team squad pretty much consists of players who are playing abroad
@davidbowie5023

Australia's messy story is similar to America and Canada, and less so than that of China. In America, pay-to-play still exists here. Australia has to get rid of the American-style institutions first. Plus A-League doesn't have such a large amount of money and the Australian government doesn't care about investing it (which mean the matter is left to the private and Football Australia dealers).

Corruption is the biggest thing, the team China had in around 2015-2017 was decent and competed in Asia at a solid level, and with the addition of some residency players like Alan, Gourlart and Elkeson, the team should've got better, but unfortunately the corruption in the CFA meant that most of those residency players never got a chance, and the former manager Li Tie, who bribed the way to the way to the NT, had called up players from his former club in return for the bribery, that wasted a generation of players that should've been competing much better, and there was and still is a lack of focus on youth development from the very bottom and players who has potential, although now with Branko Ivankovic in charge and 3 promising in young defenders in Zhu Chenjie, Jiang Shenglong amd Wu Shaocong, hopefully we can build a team around those players and send as many young players to Europe to development as possible. Ultimately, for Chinese football to succeed, we need as many talents in Europe as possible, and invest heavily on youth development, like Japan did 25 years ago, and look at how well that's paid off Edit: I think mentioning the corruption in the CFA is very important to understand the deeper causes of the fundamental problem with Chinese football, if there's severe corruption at the very top level, then naturally the structure would not be well-built, and fixing those corruption problems is the most urgent issue that the FA needs to address (and has started addressing)

I think like my country of Vietnam, there are things that China's football federation is absolutely rubbish at in the recent years: - Not having a competent football federation that cares for the results of the game rather than each personal in the federation's own wealth. Think of the whole Glazers thing at United but with an entire country instead of a single football club - Not caring about grassroots football's development and creating genuine good young players with good football ideology. This was the thing that got Germany to become a football powerhouse in the late 2000s early 2010s with their ideology of let kids be creative with skills and dribbling at a young age (like a form of expression on the football pitch) before putting in ideology in their teen years. - Still the stigma that goes for most East Asian country that you're ruining your life if you try and find a career in sports instead of shoving your head into books and give yourself future stability in a 9 to 5 job. That's why the school schedule in Asian countries like China literally has no room for recreational activities such as football - Gambling and betting problems in the early 2010s ruining normal citizen's love for football in their own domestic league, however this has happened a lot in a lot of countries such as China, Vietnam and even South Korea (the latter people in Korea still actually cared for the South Korean league) - Speaking of domestic league, the domestic league itself is of very low quality. There is Brexit tackles and ahem...still 0-0 moments everywhere, the quality of football being so bad that most people in China would rather support teams outside of China than ever even think of supporting their domestic teams. - Being very afraid to export players to go outside of their domestic league, not to mention arriving in low divisions of top footballing countries. If you look at the recent team in the Asian Cup, there wasn't a single player that is playing internationally unlike maybe say Argentina who has players playing in England, Brazil, France, Italy, top top leagues in the world. If you look at the recent squad in the Asian Cup and the World Cup qualification for China, and even China's squad in the last 12 months, there were literally nobody that is playing anywhere besides the domestic league, which in it of itself is already terrible. This is not like the China from the 1990s and 2000s and they are definitely progressing backwards. - Importing players from other countries to represent China. They have definitely done it, but the haven't done it correctly. Usually these imports are supposed to be including of young talents that are good in potential as well as veterans playing football for years, and importing them from countries that are good in terms of nutritional and infrastructure and not just importing past prime Premiere League players. Indonesia has done this and they went from being nowhere near top 3 in South East Asia to piping Vietnam 3 times IN A ROW recently. For context, Vietnam and Thailand were fighting for the best South East Asian country by themselves for the past 5 years before Indonesia showed up. But that's just my opinion, because a lot China's problems on not being the best team in Asia has a very striking resemblance compared to Vietnam, only that China dumped all the money into the Super League and being the 2010s version of the Saudi League as well and actually imported more quality players compared to what Vietnam has imported in the last god knows how long in its history.

the whole incompetent football federation really hit me close to home. My childhood club Quang Ninh FC who was one of the top club in VLeague and even attended AFC stop working and disband. The reason is the lost of main sponsor, forcing the club president to pay more than 70bil VND (2600000 EU) a year for the player wages. In 2022, they were officially banned by FIFA, AFC and VFF from participating in VLeague. The most painful part is that the 2021 season, they still finish 3rd despite the player was paid nothing. Showed that the the player attachment to the club. Now the stadium that used to hold 20000 people is just left there for decoration and maybe when the Women team held a friendly match here. 65 years of the club existen just down the drain because of money.
@SylvieTheCuteSylveon
@SylvieTheCuteSylveon 7 ай бұрын
@@Schlechte-y2b Yeah I remember that, I think it was the concrete company Vissai that pulled out. The sad thing is VFF's nepotism as well as inability to help teams through their problems, as well as sponsors not finding Vietnam's football profitable anymore after Park Hang Seo's retirement made a lot of teams just get disbanded like that due to lack of money. It also doesn't help that until VFF sent an entire decree to force young players into main squad of first league teams, literally nobody is playing the young players, the literal future generation, of Vietnamese football. Not even in some second division league did the young players get to play. What frustrates me most about Vietnamese football as well is the inability to naturalize players fast enough (we literally had 4 people, Adriano Schmidt, Andrej Nguyen (who can still rep Czechia), Dang Van Lam and recently Phillip Nguyen) due to our disadvantage in infrastructure and nutrition in Vietnam as well as football mentally, it is also not giving two craps about youth development anymore when teams like Arsenal and Dortmund pulled out of the youth development training system, like they couldn't care less. Only like truly reputable youth academy in Vietnam nowadays is the Hoang Anh Gia Lai academy. And also, the fact that we've not let our players go out to other leagues. Seriously, in our history we only had 5 players I think that ever even stepped foot outside of Vietnam's football league?

Another pretty important factor that contributed to the downfall of the Chinese Super League was the real estate bubble crisis in China. Evergrande, the real estate company behind Guangzhou, had to get rid of the team as they were (and still are) in a very awful economic situation, as they simply didn't have enough money to cover their core expenses in construction, let alone to support the football team. And that's only one example. As of right now, pretty much all private enterprise businesses pulled out of football teams (not sure whether it was because of a law or because they realized football is expensive), that's why one may notice some teams changed their names, as they removed references to those companies. If you're interested on the financial real estate crisis of China, there's a very good video by Wendover Productions that talks a lot about the Evergrande case.

Having taught English and coached football out in China, I’ve always kept an eye on the football project there. I was out there in 2018, around the time of the World Cup, and there wasn’t much fanfare. That, mixed in with youngsters feeling the pressure all hours of the day to pass their exams, as well as sports like Table Tennis and Basketball (they LOVE the NBA there!) being far more of a participation sport, made me feel, at least at a grassroots level, that China wasn’t where it needed to be to qualify for a World Cup. They’re a nation that could bring a lot to football with their huge population, but I agree, if other sports and facets of life are prioritised and more popular, if you’re already leading in other sports, why necessarily bother with playing football?
@SirSayakaMikiThe3rd
@SirSayakaMikiThe3rd 6 ай бұрын
But they aren't leading in basketball, they are 29th in the FIBA rankings. And while yes, they are dominant in ping pong, that isn't a sport that is massively popular outside of China (at the pro level that is). I think the issue you mentioned of societal pressures elsewhere, plus their methodology when it comes to training is the issue. Drills and repetition can certainly help in certain comps, but in football, where creativity and teamwork are key, it's more important to nurture that instead of getting 200 kids to do something in unison.

Because nobody actually play football in China, most people play basketball and it's not to go pro or something like that,it's to get tall and healthy. Chinese people love football,but finding places to play is hard,compared to finding basketball court to play. Most cities or places doesn't have football training grounds for kids to play like in the west. Children in the west could easily go out and find football field to play for free, in China it's nothing as such and onky free basketball court everywhere. In the West, western kids have more access to play and train,where Chinese children doesn't.

I’m 40 and have been a fan of Dalian Shide since I was 10. Sun Jihai was from Dalian Shide. Dalian Shide was 8 times champion of the top league of China since 1994 and two times runner-up of the AFC championship league. Why is chinese football so sh-t? 1. China is very very big and different regions are very different , imagining the entire Europe as one country. Yes we do speak different dialects that are not mutually intelligible in different regions. The Sun Jihai generation was the golden generation of Chinese football, they won the runner up of 2004 AFC Asian cup. The problem here is different regions make different factions within the system and they never agree with one another and there was a lot of toxic politics going on among the different factions, of course on top of all the gambling and corruption, there is still this. Imaging England, France, German, Italy being one country, making one national team while a Romanian boss is in charge of everything and trying to balance the different factions. Yes, it’s hell. 2. Then that golden generation retired. The new generation was only produced by money and monopoly. Dalian has a lot of talents in football but not the budget, while Guanzhou has all the budget but no talent. So starting from around 2010, the ones with the money dominated while talents were suppressed because talents take time to develop which money does not allow. Since money does not last long, we all know what happens next. It’s pure sh-t now.

I can give you a few examples: 1. The top Chinese national team goal scorer Hao Haidong, he was suspended from the national team a few times throughout his career, for a total of two to three years at his prime, simply because of political reasons. Someone in the system hates him. That’s all it takes. Imagining CR7 at his prime getting exclude from the national team because some people in the system don’t like him. Yes. Hao was that good. He is the best forward China has ever produced. Despite all the suspensions, he’s still the top goal scorer of Chinese national team. 2. In an AFC WC qualification game against Iran, China was leading 2-0 till the 50th min at home. Then the head coach made some ridiculous substitutions. And China ended up losing 2-4. Those changes of personnel have nothing to do with the game. Simply he had to balance different factions. He had to put players from other factions on the pitch even if that means risking losing the game. 3. In 1997, China’s first goalie was Ou. Everyone knows he’s sh-t. But he stays till around 2001. Why? Again. He knows people in the system. That’s all. The list can go on forever. It’s hell. There is no hope.

If you ask Chinese people, corruption is the killer. Bribes decide who plays (at least at club level), so it's not a meritocracy. I was talking to a guy about it and he got really emotional. It's almost a national tragedy. From my own point of view... half the population is poor and rural, and the other half is heavily urbanised without much access to pitches. It's much easier to fit basket ball courts in dense cities. I remember an article from a British player that retired there and said he met incredible individual talents, but they couldn't work as a team to defend a corner. I did experience that quite a lot at amateur level in China, but surely at professional level training can fix it..?

@jack90054 7 ай бұрын
China being "good" at sports is an illusion more than anything. They are good at winning medals at the Olympics, but in any big mainstream sport (e.g. basketball, soccer), they are terrible. China has figured out a formula to maximize its medal count, and that is to focus on events that aren't highly professionalized, and within those events, focus on the females. Also, prioritize individual sports over team sports, because it's much easier to dump the entire country's resources into a handful of super-elite talents (and have them win like 4~5 medals each) rather than train up a whole team to win 1 medal.

Another thing that happened recently was China drew against Singapore in a World Cup qualifier (which they should’ve lost tbh cuz Singapore were robbed of a penalty) and the Chinese captain said drawing against a country like Singapore was disgraceful and he said he quit😭

It's a combination of things - culture, physiology, focus on other things etc. The USA might be a good example. They have all the resources to produce a top top football team, but attention is split between so many things - track and field, baseball, basketball, academics etc. So the talent pool is shared. It's likely the same with China, with academics and other sports like gymnastics being more popular. People have options, and this weakens the focus on football. Compare that to countries in South America, where football is culture, then it's hard to compete with a well oiled machine like that. But similarly, if you reverse the roles, you'd find it hard to see South Americans competing in Badminton, for example.

It's quite simple actually. The sports industry in China is not entertainment or even a proper business. It's for either national pride (aka the Olympics), or as a way to butter up to government officials so you can make money in something even more lucrative (such as real estate). Wonder why there was suddenly a ridiculous spending spree on football? Because Uncle Xi personally likes football, so all the club owners are doing it to make him happy (and maybe get some favors in return). As a result, nobody cares about actually being "good" at the sport; they only care about "how much favors and/or money can I milk from it before peacing out (or getting caught)?"

I’d love to see how Mexico has been a so well known on the west hemisphere, and always underperformed everywhere. Arguably, we are the worst Mexican team in quite some time and I would just like to see your take on Mexican footballing history and some of the decisions that has made Mexico so far behind USA currently, which were usually ahead of.

Much love from Hong Kong when Niran talked about our friendly win in January It’s our first win against the Mainland since 1985 Edit: also China’s policy to induct players are also very ironic, especially for Hong Kong supporters as during the 2018 World Cup qualification the Chinese national team created several posters to tease their opponents, for Hong Kong, they chose to tease us over our use of induction players
