Not to be a nerd here but they tend to do this when you can’t climb back up again, like if a platform breaks or falls or a cutscene plays of you getting up there, if you try and go back it’ll kill you and spawn you in the place your supposed to be.

Because that hole marks the beginning of a cutscene. By that point, the game thinks falling off the other edge of the roof is "falling to your death" so it gives you the "falling to your death" scene.

Theres a bunch of people saying he's survived a plane crash, being stranded in a desert, falling bridges, etc. But doesn't this prison sequence take place before uncharted 1, like story wise he finds the cross, his brother "dies", then he forgets about Avery for years going on other quests in the meantime, right? So technically you could argue he isn't that well versed and graceful when it comes to big drops.

That drop still isn't long enough to kill him. At worst he'd risk breaking a bone. Besides, in the next cutscene he drops through the hole in the roof with no problems. Oh well, it's just a game.
