Why isn't Zendaya a Leading Lady Yet?!

Zendaya has the luxury of cherry picking her roles unlike a lot of her peers such as Sydney. I think Zendaya is slowly transitioning to movies she’s waiting for the right role.

I haven't been frustrated but I've been a lil confused & scratching my head 🤔🤔🤔😢. But you're correct Zendaya does do more modeling than acting. Everytime i look in a Vogue or Elle magazine she's modeling. The most I've seen her model for is Bulgari. I think she's playing it safe. Like she's watching what roles to seek & take cuz she doesn't wanna ruin her image in a certain way 🙂🙂...!! Im glad you brought up her fashion line I totally forgot about it. I wonder why she isn't to keen on representing that. I'd love to see her do like a cute love story, some type of adult action film. Or a biopic..!! MYTHOUGHTS

@9:40 this is the time when she should have concentrated on her acting and taking challenging parts. Her White counterpart Anya Taylor Joy and Florence Pugh (both in Dune 2) did this. I think if Zendaya wanted to be taken seriously as an actress she would have done this. Instead she went down the modelling route. Between Eurphoria and before she could have done stage or other indie projects she chose not too. She is rich though and yes for Euphoria she has won two awards. She's lucky to be in a position where she doesnt have to hustle. I dont think shes driven to improve her acting career. She will just do movies occasionally now it seems. Lady was busy she needs break.

Give her a chance she left Disney in 2018 Started her big screen debut in 2017 euphoria premiered in 2019 she’s not a leading lady yet but she’s certainly in demand by many directors praising her and saying they want to work with her. She has a massive presence and commands attention the Spiderman homecoming press had her all over it even tho she had limited screen time same thing happened with dune. She has had limited roles but has been very smart and meticulous about the roles she has chosen the greatest showman,euphoria and dune all take place in all different timelines with different ages,she learned trapeze for TGS and researched and dug deep into her character in euphoria and learnt how to play tennis for her upcoming movie she clearly cares about her craft,but shes also a biracial woman she has to be picky about choosing roles because of her race and identity theres always controversy when she is casted and people are more likely to judge or criticise her first and more violently than others because of her race, this leads her to turn down many roles not having as much freedom as men or white women because her race remains a factor and she has said that she prioritises picking roles that mean something to her or elevate her over just taking a job, she remains relevant by her beauty endorsements which is very smart because as long as those contracts last she’ll remain in the public media shes leading luca Guadagnino’s movie this year and it already is very anticipated shes done a lot in 8 years,considering in 2016 she was just a Disney kid.she’s doing everything right the only reason why she isn’t a leading lady already is because she came from Disney spent alot of time proving herself to the public and the industry so she had to take supporting roles now shes being noticed and taken seriously with her first leading role this year ,she will get there in a few years she has everything needed talent,humble,patient,class,presence likeable personality,fans,confidence shes so close and if she keeps choosing interesting roles and working with good directors she will get there but there’s no rush she’s only 27 a lot of actors don’t get there big moments till mid thirty’s she has time and personally I don’t see anyone taking her space no one is as close as her or behind her because of the past roles , the beauty endorsements, the fact she’s a triple threat,praise from the industry and she has built a fanbase over the last 14 years her name is zendaya and she was the youngest person to win a Emmy for the most watched show on hbo since 2004 no one’s forgetting her anytime soon, Ofc people like Sydney are ahead her aesthetic can fit into any movie so she’s allowed to say yes to every movie i know I already mentioned race but it does make a difference its what changes a regular relationship to an interracial one if the director doesn’t want that then she’s not going to be cast, I can’t think of any recent WOC who were/are leading lady (maybe halle berry)because they usually don’t get this far,she spent years climbing the ranks and now she’s at the top,were about to see the different way someone handles it when they are against a lot more scrutiny and criticism while maintaining their morals and peace in Hollywood.

I’m not dismissing any of her accomplishments. But at this point, I don’t think she’s prioritizing acting. She could at least do some indie projectst that can give her meaningful roles

I think she also needs to be proacive and self-produce a movie that will make the big screen folks take her more seriously. Like how Margot managed to escape her WWS image when she produced i, Tonya and got an Oscar nod.

She’s definitely very busy still and working a lot, but perhaps also enjoying some well deserved relaxation time. feature films such as Dune and Challengers are a huge undertaking and can be a long filming process, so she’s likely been occupied with those. For years I’ve wanted to see her in a Vogue Beauty secrets video 😂 maybe one day.

She definitely will be, she just reads really young south makes sense she'd slam out as much work modelling work as she can. Big leading roles for women tend to skew a little older than she can play right now, and jumping in too soon can be damaging to the reputation of people in her stage of fame. I think in terms of future proofing her career her team are doing right by her.

This is a great video. I'll admit hollywood is very different to the music industry where someone of Zendaya's calibre would have access to create the album she wahts because of her achievements. In hollywood, she has to prove herself. This is similar to what Viola davis was saying when she was promoting the woman king. Despite her accolades, hollywood has to see if she is popular to allow her to produce a film for 100 killion whilst her yt counterparts are rewarded such freedom very early in their careers. I think the biggest issue is payment. Franchises such as Spiderman and Dune pay very well for her career and worth whilsy indie projects she would do would pay less. It's similar to Halle Berry's career post oscars. Money is everything. This April, Zendaya is in her first leading role, Challengers and was allegedly paid 10 million, the highest any balck woman has been paid and honestly derserves it. It's what Taraji has been campaigning about these past weeks. However, it would not have come had she not have a close relationship to a top sony prooducer, Amy pascal who also is a producers in Spiderman. Hollywood really is about relationships and how to manoeuvre. One for them, one for me if you like. Allegedly, she's rumoured for a Cleopatra biopic directed by Denis, who directed the haighly anticipated Dune and Dune part two. That wouldn't have happened had she not been on those films and built a relationship with denis and their producers. I agree, Zendaya should be in kore films, but as we've seen, especially in the strike, hollywood isn't what it used to be for actors. it's important to have other financial sources to maintain relevancy and lifestyle. Zendaya is very blessed to be beyond beautiful cause she been aversge, she would be struggling icl. Just wait for Dune part two and Challengers, cause then we'll be able to detect her range and star power. I say that cause im a fan, and tbh im not the best fan of euphoria, so I've only really watched a few episodes and seen Spiderman and Dune. My two cents, lol.

I don’t agree with the race argument because we’re in a time period in which movies pretty much almost guarantee at least one lead who’s POC. If anything I think her conventional lightskin beauty gives her an edge in the industry.
