I'm Australian and I have been conditioned not to the same degree as Americans as our media not as biased as the Media in the US but close to it that Israel right not matter what they do but this current war made me research out side the normal media and there also a change of tone in our normal media on what actually going on and the awful history of Israel and its behaviour towards the Palestinians. From a personal perspective I no not a single person who pro Israel in this conflict and I work in Medicine so I'm well educated as are the people I work with so we tend to be more open to ask why rather than accept the narrative

what exactly does this justice look like? The eradication of the Israeli state and the death of all jews who don't want to or can't leave? If "Justice" means a Palestinian state, then sorry to say but Israel has tried offering that multiple times and been met with violence and rejection. If one side won't accept anything short of complete control of the country, then that's on them. Do Palestinian civilians have it hard? sure. A lot of them probably want nothing to do with Hamas and the war, but a lot more of them support these terrorists and are vocal about wanting to kill jews.

My mother and her family left Palestine in 1945 to come to America for education. They missed the Nakba, but many relatives suffered. My grandfather lost his orange groves in Gaza that he loved so much. My mother who is still alive, was the age of this girl. A few months ago, a Jewish friend invited me to her father-in-law's funeral. I found out when I got there that he was a soldier in the army that created Israel and God knows what he saw or did. His family said he didn't talk about it, but he could have killed members of my family. I had to leave as they spoke of the Palestinian fighters. Must watch this film

My Palestianian grandparents told me what happened to them in the Nakba. It was always heartbreaking because the look on their faces when they spoke of it was as if they were still there. Leaving behind the land and moving their children of 10 in the middle of the night to escape the atrocities. They had many choices to migrate to different countries. They chose the U.S. 😅. They left a legacy to be admired, having over 150 grandchildren.

I recall when Alex Haley's book, Roots, was turned into a movie. There was a lot of backlash that showing America a fictional version of what happened during slavery was wrong and should not be shown. Over 40 years have passed and some states, especially Florida, don't want any acknowledgement of the true history to be taught in schools. Films are a good way to reach a large audience and it is important for films like this to be watched rather than hidden by those who don't want their pristine image to be destroyed. I've watched copious amounts of films and documentaries about the Holocaust. It's interesting that victims of one atrocity can then become complicit in carrying out the same atrocities against people weaker than they are. Kudos I will watch the film.

The only other film I have seen about the Nakba is the similarly excellent British series, The Promise, which also was denounced for so-called anti-Semitism. A very good film. I watched it with my 12 year old daughter and she cried. An amazing thing considering kids these days can't seem to focus on anything longer than tiktok length. After it was finished she asked if I could copy it to her computer so she could watch it again with her friends.

One of the most moving, captivating, and heart-breaking books I read as a kid was about an American family who took over the management of a small apartment building in Seattle, Washington after the original owners (who were of Japanese descent) were forcibly relocated to a concentration camp during World War II. When the original owners are eventually allowed to return to Seattle several years later to reclaim their business, they are met with hostility from the children of the Caucasian family, who feel forcibly displaced from their home by these strangers. The horrible irony, of course, is that the original owners aren't displacing anyone--they were the ones who were originally displaced!

I will try to come back with the account I first heard this explained from, but there is an Anti-Zionist Jewish woman who explained that since there were already Zionists that had come to Palestine, they had developed a specific mindset that was different different from actual Holocaust survivors and refugees. She explains that they saw the Holocaust victims as “weak”, and purely as “victims”, as if they just accepted their fate in Germany (of course not true at all and there was so much resistance to the NZs) but they had started to create what they felt would be a “new image” that focused on physical strength, power, exceptionalism etc… I don’t know how many Holocaust survivors actually participated in the Nakba and other violent attacks on Palestinians.

Last night, Tuesday, October 31, some of the children who were dreaming about seeing the sun and kissing their mothers come morning, were killed in the darkness.
