Fun fact. Despite being harsh. Spartan woman who is enslaved were often sought after by other greeks because they are expert in controlling children to listen and behave. They are also most often educated (unlike most women in other greek city states). Thereby making them sought after nannies for children.

You're paid and equipped leagues more than the regular army. There's a reason a good chunk of vets decide to go private after getting out, rather than re-enlist.

@9446213 сағат бұрын
This is ALMOST as bad as Micheal Jackson’s upbringing, dude was performing aged 5 years old and was abused relentlessly by Joe Jackson, he literally had a spartan upbringing to become the greatest entertainer ever and my Goodness did he succeed

@derkaiser42012 сағат бұрын
You also forgot that the Spartans were the most religious of all the Greek states. The reason why Leonidas only took 300 men was because the battle happened during a religious ceremony so Sparta refused to send her main army. The 300 that went with him were his personal body guard.
@ivanmajic53174 сағат бұрын
There is no evidence for Spartans being more religious than others (happened 2500 years ago, so barely any evidence for anything). The reason only 300 was sent was because Spartan oligarchs didnt want to commit themselves to a battle that will result in Athenian position of power, and they preferred to see their rival fall. After that they would become the hegemon in Aegean area. The kings (there were two of them in Sparta) made an alliance oath and didnt want to formally brake it as this sets a bad reputation amongst 30 or so other Spartan allies. Hence the king in the field arrived with 300 horsemen which were the elite of their very modest force anyways...

You didn't even mention what the underage boys would do after they survived the wilderness.....it REALLLY sucked to be a Spartan
@aetius713912 сағат бұрын
It meant to teach them to be resourceful. They often purposefully underfed and told where are the nearest helot (spartan slave) settlement are. So most often than not they would steal. Though they will be punished severly if caught. Not because stealing is a crime, but because youre careless enough to get caught!!.
@shindean12 сағат бұрын
@aetius7139 No, they were sexually used by the older men. You don't know anything huh?

They dont kill the baby. They're not animals and they dont want to get cursed. They do the slightly better abandon the baby in the wilderness technique
